Here is the elven toxic shaman's character sheet. Haven't decided if he is going to follow the Havocs or the Poisoners Toxic Path (Page 141-142 SM)

Plan to have his questions and possibly a small Vignette up tonight.

So how much would a slave (Besides Dog) cost?

Also, how does additional living cost for roommates work if you own your lifestyle?
Marston
SR4A, p314
Lists services. When you say slave cost, what is your time frame of service?

Runner's Companion, p196
Roommate A pays the original cost.
Roommate B will have to pay +10% of the original costs.
Subsequent roommates will have to pay an additional 10% of the original costs.

Slave as in like own, not rent.

And yeah, I know what RC says, but I just wanted to check if the 10% would still apply when I owned the place. Lets say it has a 500/month rent and I've bought it for 50k, do I need to pay any extra a month to keep a roommate. I'd also like to know if it would be possible to for example pay 55k to get the lifestyle with extra supplies for a roommate at all times.

Also, I think you spent too many points on attributes, you can only spend half max (150 in this case) on attributes. Just figured I'd mention that.

Oh, right. I guess you're right. I just can't imagine it being nearly as effective as a suit working in the forest or such, especially with how varied urban backgrounds are. I mean forests are at least mostly green and brown. Urban areas can be -any- color. (Though I guess you don't see many pink areas wink.gif )

Here's a fun game:

Set a stopwatch. The purpose is to count how many people are in the picture.

Karoline
*goes to find a stopwatch*

Got the first four in about 2-3 seconds. Didn't find a fifth until a minute. There are two others that I think might be people, but it is hard to be certain.

But then again, color blindness adds a whole new level of difficulty to that game.

I look forward to the red outlined picture that shows that the entire mountain is nothing but people.

Still kinda holds to my point though, they are wearing suits for that kind of terrain. "Urban" is a very very broad area. The suit that Mr. J showed might work very well against concrete, but it will be useless against asphalt, bricks, pained backgrounds, glass, wood, etc. Now I know part of the infiltration skill is knowing not to try hiding against that, but I'm just trying to point out that 'urban' environment consists of dozens of very different backgrounds.

As the picture you put up shows, there is almost no variation in the entire picture. Similarly with forests. No matter where you look you are going to see green and browns. Snowy areas will always have plenty of white. A city is like having a forest next to a mountain next to a snowfield next to a swamp next to a bright white area. As long as you are in the area that you are equipped for, you're fine, but otherwise you're going to be in trouble (Not saying you'll stick out more than anyone else, just that you won't blend in how the suit is designed).

Also, I should point out I'm not arguing rules here, they have things like infiltration (urban) and running (urban) despite me having no idea how running in a city is particularly different from running anywhere else other than that the ground tends to be more solid.

What is the slave? That might help, including nationality, sex and age.

I think there is reference to them in Cyberpirates, but so far all I find is that old system in 3rd (a hold over from the other earlier editions) about being 80% or 120% or what have you. [Part of that it costs this more or less in this area than in seattle, as main setting of SR]

Caribbean 50%
Philipines 50%
Gold and Ivory Coast 50%
South East Asia 35%

Well, thinking about both a male and female slave. Nationality preferably be CAS or UCAS (As much as a SINless is part of a nation of course). For the male I was thinking somewhere in the early twenties, and for the female somewhere around 16-18.

I doubt I'll be able to spare the BP to go towards buying them at start, but I'm curious what kind of price range I'm looking at. I mean am I looking at 10k each, 100k, more? I'm sure training would affect price quite a bit as well (Likely even more than any other factors, because it isn't that hard to just pull someone off the streets). SR mentions slaves several times, but never seems to put even the most remote actual value on one. I suppose PCs aren't generally supposed to be quite so bad as to own slaves, so it wasn't thought that it would really come up. Though even in the context of a 'normal' game it might be important to know how much someone might be willing to pay to have a slave moved safely from point A to B (Obviously alot more if a good slave costs 100k+ than if they only cost about 10k)

edit: 80% to 120% of what? 50% of what? I understand that they are more or less expensive in certain areas (supply) but I'm curious about what they might cost in the first place.

Ooo, I might be able to swing the points for that biggrin.gif

Here is a quick look at what I have. A few big points are that 1. Her DP for melee combat is massive and 2. I noticed as I was going through that duel wielding is supposed to only be done with range 0-1 weapons, but I figured that was on the basis that all range 2 weapons are two handed, but the whip is a notable exception. I also figured that since you didn't object to my mentions at duel wielding, that you agreed with my thought that whips would be a notable exception to the rule, or you just didn't know about it. 3. I'd really like comment from you DO if you think she is too powerful in combat for the game you want to run. It wouldn't be too hard to tone her back a good deal. 4. Does the Sadism sound alright (as a negative quality), or do you figure that'll be too easy to manage? I figure it could be a 'poor self control' thing, but I liked the idea of running it as an addiction.

Oh, and 5. Do you mind what I did with the lifestyle? Once again I certainly don't mind changing it.

Karoline:

Hi Karoline,

Here are some recommendations. I am not the GM, but these are some of the major things I object to or asking DO for recommendations:

Restricted Gear. I would see it allowable on getting one piece of restricted gear, not three.

Martial arts and maneuvers are broken, and I would really, really think twice (GM call) about utilising them. They are also more appropriate for a Jet Li kind of game play than a gang game.

Extravagant eyes and unusual hair color are part of distinctive style. However this is 2072, if you can go to your local beauty shop and have them done, then its mundane and its about as distinctive as coloring your hair red today.

Prejudiced at -20 means that you are a frothing-at-the mouth prejudiced. In which case it should be a clear group, not a vague (people who impose morals on others) description. You will also go out of your way to hurt these people.

Prejudiced -20 for example would be a rabid humanis policlubber, who thinks that humanis is weak and likes sending infected needles to drug drives, poisoning the local soup kitchen, and writing an inflamatory blog about all that is wrong with the world due to metahumanity. That person would have develoved to the point of unable to keep a job because of it and having no friends even among humanis.

Astral Hazing is a quality I would expect for a character who is at the edge of becoming an NPC. Unless well played (again a GM ruling needed), it basically nulls out mages.

You have free 6 points for contacts.

Monofilament whip has availability of 12.

Your lifestyle means that you get robbed about once every two weeks, your neighbours know your robbers better than you do. You keep changing the locks, but they keep ripping you off. Most likely its your neighbour coming through the medicine cabinet in the adjacent apartment.

As a positive note, you don't have hot and cold running rats, but still.
DigitalOYABUN
Well for starters, this game is about having fun. That's the number one rule.

I'd have much prefered to do critiques by PM

By canon, restricted gear allows you to take it 3 times.

I dont feel that Martial Arts is all that broken, and capped at 3 it shows there has been a lack effort or devotion to pure study of it.

I do believe you must have unarmed to take/use/study a martial art however...ahem, look at the sheet.

I also do not see anything that supports study in ninjitsu (this is my fault, it's one I should have prohibitted unless met certain criteria.)

You're only allowed a certain amount of positive or negative qualities as it effects lifestyle.

Predjudice is rather vague, but would I be right if I thought it meant evangalical type christians and muslims?

Astral Hazing, will require I think heavily on.

If you find something you think is a mistake, please let me know about it instead of telegraphing it (posting). None of us know how thick or thin anyone's skin is in here and you cant conve tones, inflections and facial cues on the internet...which could make people react opposite to your intentions.

Please look forward to coming critques, and/or questions of your characters from me.
Karoline
Hi Chry biggrin.gif

Don't worry DO, I don't mind the criticisms. Lets see, not going to answer everything in the order presented, but I'll try and hit everything.

First: I don't see why you need to know Unarmed skills to know martial arts, since several martial arts are based mostly or purely on the use of weapons.
QUOTE ("wiki")
Martial arts or fighting arts[1] are systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat.

This means that fencing is a martial art, as is military boot camp. Neither are typically called that, but they can be. Krav Maga is an excellent example of military boot camp being considered a martial art, something that deals almost exclusively with guns being called a martial arts. Firefight is another good example, as it also deals purely with the use of firearms (Though it involves using them in melee combat, it doesn't involve any sort of melee skills on the part of the practitioner)

As for ninjitsu, I can totally understand that, I was just grabbing something that I thought would be fitting (Stealth training for an assassin) without considering much the 'Ancient Japanese Secret' aspect of it. I don't mind changing it at all.

As DO said, restricted gear allows up to 3 items (Each one costing 5 BP, so I spent 15 BP + nuyen to get those three items). Once again, I don't mind dropping some of these to tone back my character, just wanted to point out that I did pay a fair bit for the ability to make these purchases.

I know monowhip has avail 12, avail is limited to 8 with one 10 item, which means I need to take restricted gear to get the monowhip.

I know I have the contact points, the character sheet is still a WIP that I wanted some critiques on.

Yeah, I had been going back and forth between the different levels of prejudice and figure I should pull it back a level or too. DO is very right, I was thinking exactly 'evangalical type christians and muslims' and similar types. That preacher on the street that tells everyone their going to hell would be another great example. Basically anyone who goes "I'm right and your wrong." who can't back it up with anything. She wouldn't mind someone telling her she shouldn't do K-10 because it could kill her, but she would mind someone telling her she shouldn't do K-10 'because it is wrong' or something like that.

As for the unusual hair and eyes, yes, it is true that anyone could go to the beauty parlor and have their hair died silver, and wear golden contacts or have golden cybereyes, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be unusual. You can go have your hair died pink, but that doesn't mean that having pink hair is considered 'normal'. You're going to draw attention, you are going to stand out somewhat. You would draw even more attention if they figured out that it was natural and not dyed. I mean wouldn't you always remember someone that had -natrual- bright green hair? Heck, I still vaguely remember people that have obviously dyed pure black hair or hair that is some weird hair color that I saw in glancing years ago. I should also note that it is very specifically in the book as a negative quality, so it must be deemed odd enough to stand out even in a world with lots of oddities.

Have more, but have to run, so TTYL. smile.gif
Karoline
Okay, to continue on my post after lunch.

I should clarify that for the prejudice she wouldn't have anything against a Muslim or any kind of christian just for being such, it is only when they try and push their ideals on others that she would have a problem with them. She could have a perfectly reasonable meal with the Pope right up until he says "You should really stop having premarital sex because God says it is bad and you are going to burn in hell for it." (Well, she might already have hatred for him for doing that in general, but if she didn't know about him doing that otherwise)

This also extends to a great number of 'pointless' laws, and would be very aggressive to a policeman that stopped her for not coming to a full stop at a stop sign where she could see half a mile in all directions 100 feet before she even got to the sign. I realize that it is somewhat vague, but at the same time I don't think it would generally be to hard too point at a situation and say "Yes she would have a problem with that." or "No, she wouldn't mind that." I mean there are always going to be some grey areas (Do gay haters hate bisexuals? Do male haters hate transexuals?) Still, I admit that I need to take it down a point or two on the 'how much hate' thing. I just figured it would be a good way to represent that she would have very strong reactions to this, though she wouldn't necessarily hunt them down (Anyone who falls into this can totally expect to have a Monowhip wrapped around their necks just waiting to be pulled tight, depending on what kind of mood she is in)

As for the astral hazing, yes, it makes her exceedingly resistant to mages, but remember that it also makes her exceedingly resistant to mages. As in enemy mages have a problem hurting her, but allied mages have a problem helping her. I kind of figure that it balances out and should likely be worth fewer points, but 10 isn't exactly a ton, and it can be very annoying when she is the only one in the group that isn't invisible or has to climb the wall instead of flying in or can't have the mage poof her wounds better.

I had kind of thought I had read something about there being a limit on how many qualities you could take for a lifestyle, but I couldn't find anything other than that the qualities required GM approval (Which is why I asked that it particularly be looked at). And yeah, I know that my place is going to get hit reasonably often, and that guards aren't likely to notice (Though they'll still have to get through decent maglocks and the guards do still have a chance), but I figure I'm living in an area inhabited by Halloweeners, it isn't exactly the nice part of town, especially because the idea of the BTL manufacturer being right next to her seemed kinda cool (And slightly convenient since we are likely to make use of the place).

The main reason I tweeked the lifestyle so much as because I had planned on her backstory involving her parents and brother dying in a fire that she just happened to not be around for, and so she had inherited a good deal of money (Especially since insurance had been increased not so long ago), and had thus been able to get a house to live in long term. It is of course very hard to support that backstory when a good house costs hundreds of thousands to own. I certainly don't mind dropping the various lifestyle categories, but I envision her as the sort that is used to a fairly nice place, and will do what she can to hang on to it, even though that new plant opened next door and those crappy neighbors moved in next door and the home node started giving anyone who logged into it alot of help in pointing out what different things were and the security in the area got lax because of that BTL plant and so on. The idea in other words is that she purchased it several years ago when the place was much nicer, but when things started going downhill she couldn't get out before the price plumeted, and so now she is stuck in a crappy area because she isn't willing to give up the amenities that the house provides. I also figure that it could be downright fun to have her walk in on someone trying to rob her place.
DigitalOYABUN
Alrighty, I've been agonizing over the submissions, as there are more submissions than slots I'm comfortable with having open. My choice is by no means personal, only that the concept fit 'my ideal' of the game world. Again, please do not be offended if not chosen, and wait in the wings incase of a drop out.

I've chosen the following, in no certain order:

DWC
Karoline
Chrysalis
Ravensoracle
SincereAgape
Kanislatran
Mister Juan

This doesnt mean your character is good as is neccessarily, just that i'd like to continue on the development of them and intergration into the game. I'll be setting up an OOC thread shortly for further use in the game.

Just my answers, DO may need to correct, but I think the following:
1. By not betraying them and doing stuff that advances the Halloweeners I guess, not 100% sure what you mean here?
2. I don't believe there is besides the normal ones imposed by the rules.
3. It is an 8 availability restriction (With the exception of a single item at availability 10). Restricted gear allows you to get a -single- item of up to availability 20. You otherwise still have to conform to the normal gear rules that DO has put forth.

Hi Karoline,

Sorry for responding ina brusque manner. Actually have been trying to show my character to lots of people and I kinda like having a bit more info than "its okay". So, sorry if it came off as a bit much.

Real good responses though. smile.gif

I would still look twice at astral hazing. My GM and I, when I was thinking on getting it for Sonya (after a lot of agonizing too), the GM and I had a long chat about it, and it was agreed that I could take it, but he also understood that my character was on the express train on becoming an NPC.

Perhaps you could have prejudice: authority figures? From dad to cops.

Clarification:
1. What would the Halloweeners do to each other to instill loyalty to the gang? Fear, intimidation, what would prevent the gang members from just walking away and joining another gang which causes mayhem and destruction?
2. The attribute cap, by Karoline's understanding, is the same as it is for SR4A.
3. By Karoline's understanding, the Restricted Gear quality for this game would allow the purchase of one R item up to availability 20. This quality does not allow for Forbidden items to be purchased? For example, a facility could be purchased with this quality.

Question:
4. It is assumed that all of these starting characters are in the gang at the start of the game. Is it up to us to determine what seniority levels we are? Example, are we recent recruits, green members, full members or senior members?

The fact that once you're a Halloweener, you're pretty much disliked. Nobody likes them....its more a tolerate them because they're a group a psycho's that just dont die. Mega-corps have tried to eradicate them...still around, Ancients tried the same thing...still around, and now they're off their hate everything corp kick to just hate everything really.
