Sent finalized version to Budoka, but figured I'd post it here for everyone to see as well.

Digital Heroin
I've finalized the sheet for Rising Sun, and edited my original sheet post to include the new slew of gear, the pair of new (more practical) vehicles his street team use in Lagos, and a few new contacts.
Darquewing
Don't know if I posted it in here before, but here is Solo's info.

Also, since I'm using a lot of Australian slang in his speech, does anyone need me to post translation notes for him, or is everyone able to get what he's saying from the context? It could be fun to play out any communication difficulties because of his heavy use of aussie sayings as well.

I love the slang, I don't think you should add subtitles. If I need clarification on something I'll just ask here, or RP it out in character.
pbangarth
Same here. Yazata has a "1" in English, so it should be fun!
Faraday
Agreed. Ambalo has decent English and enough intuition to hash out complex speech, but he'll need to work at figuring out an Aussie accent. Thankfully, he can translate to Yaruba pretty well. biggrin.gif
pbangarth
So, how do I tell the Excel sheet that play has started, and using up the 2 batches of binding materials shouldn't give me money back?
Digital Heroin
Noboru's English is not as accented as one might expect, given his sometimes over the top use of one in his movies... silly Hollyweird, feeding into a man's desire to be someone he is not. As for his ear for accents, well I do imagine the fact he is a linguist will help him better than it'll help me in deciphering the Aussie.

I'll also consider myself blessed Solo's not a Kiwi... seriously, I used to work at a broadcast center where we had to shift frequencies for a station in NZ, and every time the Kiwis called it was like a wall of indecipherable chipperness with numbers thrown in.
crizh
Boo!

I'm posting from a McD's in Frejus, wifi here is free, up at the resort it's extortion.

I'll try to make it in here for an hour every day to keep up with things.

God knows, I usually just update the sheet I post to the boards. I'm going to edit that into my first post on page one of this thread to make it easier to find.

I took linguist as well and went bat-shit crazy with central African languages, hopefully that will stand us in good stead.

One the first page, there should be a settings page. On it, it will ask if the spread sheet is in Char Gen mode. There you can put True or False. Of course, in your situation, set it to False.

Update: I'm finishing reviewing the spreadsheets, and you'll all get feedback or approval soon.
pbangarth
Thanks, budoka05.

Crizh, your note about Assensing through the Masking confuses me. I only know of an Assensing + Intuition Test to get through Masking. Can you help me out? Yazata is curious about Afrika, and I want to know how to let him try.

Great idea. Should have worked, but it still credits me with the cost of the items I use up. The only thing I can think of for now is to keep track of the costs and deduct them from the nuyen award at the end of a 'session'. Seems pretty awkward.

He's concealed under a Manascape spell to hide all the spells, foci, etc. You'll have to penetrate the illusion first, which you shouldn't have any trouble doing, it's only 5 hits on Will + Counterspelling to overcome the spell. I'm assuming you have an Ally from your posts so you'll get to add Aid Sorcery dice as well.

Once you've seen through that he's using Extended Masking and I honestly haven't looked the mechanics up for that, I'll do that later while I'm offline again.

OK, gotcha. I will try that then.

No, Yazata doesn't have an Ally. What he has is a mixed relationship with the spirits he summons, as per the description of the Zoroastrian Tradition in Street Magic. Zoroastrians walk a fine line between evil and good when they truck with spirits. I could play Yazata so that he "summons only good spirits", but what fun would that be? This way I get to poke at him and his goody-two-shoes attitude using the odd 'demonic' spirit that shows up.

EDIT: The Guardian spirit currently Invoked is a bit on the 'demonic' side. It will continually taunt Yazata and suggest uses of his power that are not in line with his ethics and morals. The bound Earth spirit is the opposite.

Budoka05, once Ghoster shows us the imagery of the facility, and we do our various forms of scouting, will there be a map available online that we can study?

I'm working out a way to do that, but it's tricky. Update soon.
Ezeckial
Budoka05, can I presume that I've cracked the copy protection on my IC?

Putting something together for Yazata in my head, and trying to keep it under budget lol.

A couple quick questions before I reply in the IC thread.

Since you posted that I'd hacked 'matrix corporate node 317' what type of account have I hacked? Or am I currently in the 'lobby' with visitor access?

The information will let me know how I'm going to proceed in character.

For now, I create a dummy "Custom Item" on the Gear page that costs the total value of the used-up items.
AzureusJake
since we dont have an official OOC thread I'm going to post this here. Some of you are posting the month as September and some are posting as February. I'm not sure it matters but we need to be on the same page with this. Just my anal retentiveness kicking in.
Faraday
It's february, sorry about the mixup, I usually just copy+paste the post above in a meet and greet.
pbangarth
That's what happened in some of my posts too. Sorry.

You've come to acquire a visitor's account. From the account privileges, you've been given some freedom to access the nodes of the facility. However, many areas deeper into the network are restricted.
Ezeckial

Excellent, I will proceed in character appropriately!
pbangarth
OK, so am I right that as of 12:45, Solo is delivering Yazata and Ambalo to the stakeout site?
Ezeckial
Fedora might be getting a ride to solo's pad as well. But he won't be at the stakeout with yazata and ambalo.
Digital Heroin
Heads up, save weekends my net status is unknown for the next three weeks. I'll be posting as is possible.
crizh
@Digital Heroin, harsh but keep plugging away.

You seem to be playing the strong silent type anyway, like a Samurai Silent Bob.

[ Spoiler ]

I'm back in the UK now so I'll try to pick up the pace.
Faraday
Eesh, I remember having rather sparse net access for a year. Unpleasant.

This led me to a spontaneous googling. Imagine my surprise when...
pbangarth
Ezeckial, I think those thanks from Fedora belong to Afrika, not Yazata? Yazata is off in space looking at sewers, not healing.
budoka05
pbangarth, that's correct. No worries, Ezeckial, retcon is authorized.
budoka05
Everyone, I would like to get feedback about different combat handling for increased speed. I've found PbP games bog down in the combat section. My proposal: for everyone's IP, they roll for every action they take and any potential consequence. For example, say one fires a narrow burst at an enemy corp sec. In addition to rolling for hits, also roll for damage. If the hit are less than the enemy's defense roll, then the damage roll is ignored. However if the defense fails, then I'll take the damage roll and apply it. Now damage calculations do have modifiers, but I'll make modification post-roll.

What's your feedback?
budoka05
For reference, the campaign page on InvisibleCastle is http://invisiblecastle.com/campaign/view/12641/
Ezeckial
Durhhh, typing while tired. Will change who the thanks are for.

Sounds decent, although IIRC, damage is calculated based on the number of net hits. So Base DV+net hits=Total DV to resist.
pbangarth
What about the following format:

Number of hits (as a link to the Invisible Castle dice roll) : Base Damage : Fire type modifiers to DV (eg. burst)

This way budoka05 can deal with REA+Dodge and ItNW easily from the info and calculate the final DV based on whatever modifiers he knows about that we don't.

Here's an example:

4 HITS : 7DV : +3DV burst

In this example, a Force 6 Shedim blows its REA and gets no hits, so the damage would be 11DV plus 3DV for burst, but the ItNW counts only the 11 DV, and so the Shedim shrugs off the 11DV.

EDIT: As an aside, this demonstrates that burst bonuses sometimes are better used to reduce the opponent's REA+Dodge pool, rather than try to raise the DV. I guess that should be explicitly stated when the shot is taken.
pbangarth
Where is everybody?
Faraday
Who knows? >_>
Ezeckial
I'm here! I'll post more hacking stuff shortly, but I didn't want to have 2 back to back walls of text.

If no one else posts though I'll write the exploit and make the rolls for the decrypting.
budoka05
I've been checking for responses on how to do the rolls. While I shall wait for more responses on that, I will move the crusade along!

This sounded pretty good to me. You would have to remember to specify 'narrow' or 'wide' with any burst fire but otherwise concise and to the point.
Ezeckial
I agree, that format seems good. Should probably include any armor pen or if your using special ammo as well however.
pbangarth
Ah, good point about the ammo... AP mods, nuclear explosive, etc. Glitches etc. would show in the dice roll itself, right?

So:

HITS : base DV : ammo mods : other (eg. burst mods)

How does that look?
Digital Heroin
I'm quiet here because I'm not sure where I sit right now. I'm feeling a bit directionless... and part of me is going "I made a ninja with a rocket suit? What was I on?" Not giving up, just lost a bit...

As for the dice simplification, I dig the proposal that's up so far. Seems simple enough to roll with.

I see what you did there. nyahnyah.gif

Jesus saves, the rest of you take full damage.
pbangarth
Budoka05, I assume from Ghoster's response that one of each of the magical materials showed up. Is that correct?
budoka05
That is correct. When the spirit that initially approached your character showed up, it brought the supplies.
pbangarth
Got it. Thanks.
pbangarth
Whoa! Talk about ramping things up! I go for a nice walk, and they're shooting at me!!
