It's different, that much is safe to say.
Also, please, switch off this annoying black stuff over the letters <.<
Ol' Scratch
There was a picture of a short-order cook in the SR3 main sourcebook. He ran a fastfood stand called Merciless Ming's and was morbidly obese. I was totally inspired by it and turned him into a cleaver-wielding adept, and he was a total blast to play.
Stahlseele
Wasn't that guy a sushi cook with wired reflexes who insisted on drinking one glass of the same stuff for each glass of stuff his customer was having?

I tried to remove it, It keeps returning each time I modify the post

*removed because original poster got it right*

Ok got it now, guess 8th time was a charm

The penile implant is a classy touch.

Do the rules for the damage rating of falling objects depend on weight? If so, this guy could fuck someone up pretty bad by Goomba-stomping them.

Don't forget Tailored Pheromones "Yeah Baby!"

No, Damage only comes from Distance fallen i think.

LOVE IT!

I love the concept, but the levels in an adept power are limited by the Magic rating. Why does he even need to be an adept, anyways? You're paying for all of these levels of Magic that you are losing to 'ware, and the point he has left isn't doing much. He would be better off with synthcardium: 3.

Possibly. I mean he does have the body of a decent sized motorcycle.
Saint Sithney
How does he have 2.49 essence with all that swag stuffed into the fatty folds of his mammoth torso? I call shenanigans.
Dumori
his fat adds essence?? wink.gif
Voronesh
Yeah houserule. Every point of BMI above 30 gets you an extra point of essence because ware built into the fat doesnt affect your holistic field.... nyahnyah.gif
Prime Mover
Definitely using this guy against my players, they'd never suspect the giant guy in corner working his way down a 4 foot sub in the stained up out of date armored concert tee as an ambush.
svenftw
I think this concept is awesome, but could lose the magic and use those points to buy the maximum possible Body attribute. Maybe even taking the Exceptional Attribute quality to make your Body one higher than the racial max. If ever that quality was called for, it's for this guy!

At Character Creation you start out with magic rating 1 for taking adept quality, and you don't have to buy extra magic points for lost essence. But I did screw up by giving 3 points of Gymnastics when level is limited by Magic Rating.

I took adept mainly for Iron Gut
Iron Gut
Cost: .25 per level
This power allows an adept to digest nearly anything and
pass it without harm (gamemaster’s discretion). Each level of
Iron Gut adds a +1 dice pool modifier for Resistance Tests
against ingested toxins.

Now I have idea for new adept Power.....
Thanks for the comments
Bushw4cker
Iron Colon
Cost .25 per level
Adepts with Iron Colon Power are able to pass any object swallowed at will. (Commlinks, Datachips, Credsticks, ect.) Each level of Iron Colon allows adept to "Hold it in" for 24 hours.

You know the essence rules with bioware and cyberware right? I think a lot of people never see this one. Pg. 86 SR4A

Essence losses from cyberware and bioware are tracked separately.
Only the higher of the two totals deducts from Essence in full, with
the other deducting at half. For example, if a character has an Essence
loss of 1.5 from cyberware and 2.5 from bioware, then the character’s
Essence is 6 – 2.5 (full bioware) – 0.75 (half cyberware), or 2.75.
Players should keep track of both, as it’s possible one can outpace the
other as the character implants more cyber or bio into his body.

I can honestly say that I have no interest in describing this power better.

Also, perhaps he could just get a cyber colon or something, instead of spending points on adept which doesn't fit as well thematicly?

Also that Astral hazing flaw you took up effects you as well, meaning that you are also losing 4 (Don't have the book with me) off your magic attribute. That reduces your magic to 0. meaning you really have no magic at all.

Depending on how you interrupt the rules, I have other post about astral hazing asking about that, I took Astral Hazing because I thought it would be funny that character is his own personal domain.

Oh, aye, I knew that, and you're right on that point. I just must have read it as 4.71 since that made more sense to my brain at the time. Turns out I got confused trying to wrap my head around your magic minus all that essence loss.

Thing is, a single point of magic will go out the window the first time you lose any essence because you lose magic off the bottom. In other words, with an essence of 2.71 you would lose access to your first 4 points of magic, meaning you'd have to buy 5 magic points just to receive the benefit of 1 point of magic. eek.gif

Seems like an expensive means just to double up the effects of your Ogre Stomach Quality...

Might I suggest dropping Magic all together and getting a reflex recorder to help with gymnastics, or dropping all cyber, using drugs like Cram to take up the slack from your Wired Reflexes and just getting some earbuds and glasses/contacts to replace your vision stuff? You should be able to reign in your essence loss to two points.

I'll post an alt thing that ought to fix your essence bleed:

Quick fix = Drop the Sleep Regulator and all Cyber. Then choose Biocompatability (Bioware) to replace Low light vision (just get some specks) and either Balance Augmenter or the Roo pocket for the necessary 10bp. That should make your essence loss 1.98 so you can still get some actual benefits from your Adept powers and keep your potential for future magical growth. Though, you'd still need Magic 3 just to access that 1st point...

Oh, yeah, the Astral Hazing problem previously mentioned still will eat up your magic. Guess you could switch it to Critter Spook (on account of he might eat them) and something else. Scorched? Allergy mild (common) for the constant mouth breathing? I dunno.

Hmmm... p.68, of SR4A, under "Essence Rating", would seem to disagree with you. Can you help me out and tell me where your point above is explained?

Uh, no. That's not how that works. It requires a special rule to allow that to happen (such as the clause in Latent Awakening in Street Magic). Essence loss comes way at the end of the character creation process, well after you've picked up your qualities and set your base attributes. Which includes Magic (1 plus any points you purchase), and Essence (at 6.00).

Don't even bother trying to argue that it works the way you think it works. That's unbalanced and broken as hell.
pbangarth
OK, three of us have pointed out the same contentious issue. Maybe the rest who want to hop on the bandwagon can wait till the poor guy gets a chance to answer?

I personally don't have 4A. Can you post the rule for those of us without SR4A? I don't see it in the listed changes PDF.
Glyph
That's because it's not a "change". In SR4, it is under the same heading, pg. 62.
Banaticus
Whether you're using SR4A or SR4, it's the same. Losing a point of essence causes you to lose a point of magic. If you only get one point of Magic from becoming an adept and you lose four essence points, well, you no longer have any magic, if you're following the build point method of character creation. You only need to buy up four points of magic to get up to 5 then fall back down to 1, though, the first point is free when you pay for the adept/magician/mystic adept quality.

However, if you weren't using build points but were instead using the Karma system from Runner's Companion, then you could buy up cyberware and bioware, then pick up the Latent Awakening quality. However, your max magic rating would be reduced to match your essence loss, which means you'd have to spend more karma to initiate otherwise your max magic rating would only be 2 with the four essence you're setting yourself up to lose. Normally, this would be a problem for a magician as it's a lot more karma than you'd need to spend otherwise. But if you don't ever plan to put more points into your magic rating...

However, it is a lot of effort for something that's just not worth it. I'd also forget about Iron Colon. He eats things to store them then poop them out later? No, whatever eats, it's just gone. He's a bottomless pit, feeding his literal blubber. I just don't really see the point in making him an adept.

I'd love to redo this character to actually be a really fat bear shape shifter adept:

Considering that the description of Astral Hazing says "THis background count also impairs her own action if the character is Awakened", I'd say the interpretation is rather clear, this permanently inhibit any Adept power you character may have had left after loosing quite a bunch of Magic to his augmentations...

Well, why don't they remove the "insert a picture into this post" button in the editor then? Sheesh.
Stahlseele
Because making it not work is much less work than re-doing the complete gui more or less by removing it.
I think. But i am not sure about that. I guess there's a checkbox somewhere that says "inserting pictures on/off"
