OoC Thread: http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=31776

Why hello there possible future players! I'm looking to start up a Play by Post game here on Dumpshock. I just wanted to get a feel for anyone who was interested. And I'd be looking for anywhere between four and six players. Anymore than that is just to much work. And I'd like to make sure I have the "Bases Covered".

So what style of game would people want to play?

What would they want to play in the game?

And everyone's out of luck if they don't like it, but it'll be in Seattle. (Only because I don't know jack squat about any other sprawl)

So a hacker and magician would be nice at this point. grinbig.gif

Players! (1 Slots left)
RrZiaus: Bill "Big Train" McCann (Ork Adept Boxer)
HugeC: Crimson (Ork Street Sammy)
Red-ROM: Runt (Dwarf Hacker/Generalist)
MrMage: [Saved] (Stealth Ops/Face)
Martin_DeVries_Institute: [Saved]
HugeC
I haven't done a play-by-post game, but I'd like to try it! I'd like to play an adept samurai type. I'll work on a character and post again later. Any particular chargen rules?
Abschalten
Woo-hoo!

I'm definitely interested. I could make a character tonight in a few hours when I get home.

I'm amenable to any type of game and chargen. I PREFER Karmagen but I can swing 400 BP, too.

I can play any role as I enjoy them all and have a handful of characters near and dear to my heart.

As for gaming style, I tend to enjoy games that balance the mirror shades, black trenchcoats, and pink mohawks. I enjoy gritty, noir-inspired campaigns, but that's just a personal preference.
Red-ROM
I like Seattle

Ive got a dwarf Hacker/ weapons expert that could use a game
Belvidere
Don't worry about chargen yet. I know that I'd like to have it a bit low power. though it would still be 400 BP and standard rules. Just no highly specialized characters. I'm going more for a realistic feel. And I'd want semi-detail backgrounds on any characters. At least a page or so. I tend to run my games pretty roleplay heavy, though this would be the first I did via PbP.
Abschalten
Does "standard rules" mean we're just using SR4A? Or can we use the other books?
Belvidere
400BP (Standard Character Generation. 200 for Physical/Mental Attributes, 50 for gear, ect.)
Books Include:
SR4A
Augmentation(Though if anything comes out of here. Make sure you give me some notice and page reference.)
Arsenal
Street Magic
Unwired
Runner's Companion
Belvidere
But now I have to ask everyone. What kind of game does everyone want to play in? I was hoping to run a slightly more generalized game. As in you should be able to survive on your own kind of thing. Just excel at one aspect or two.

Along with that, I was thinking the game revolving heavily around the crime syndicates and things going on with them. (I just read through Vice and I want to put all of my newfound knowledge to use! rotfl.gif )
Abschalten
Some characters I'd volunteer to use:

Benito: Male Human, Aztlaner expatriate adept gunslinger with a drinking problem
Void: Female Androgyne Human, Hacker/face; expert at identity theft, disguise, with a slowly decaying long-term memory
Scythe: Female Elf, Stoic, borderline sociopathic, melee specialist with a fondness for shotguns
Bane: Human Male, Black magician specializing in mental manipulation and has a mean counterspelling pool
Steel: Human Male, ex-Aztlan company man, Afrikaans Dutchman, near full-body borg who defends his mates and never leaves a man behind
Swift: Human Male, Chinese samurai blood opera/kung fu movie homage
Scar: Troll Male, unaugmented mundane muscle with organlegger contacts who is trying to get into "the biz"

These are all fairly rounded characters with established backstories and skillsets beyond their specialties. I enjoy the hell out of all of them.

I can fill in just about any gaps, in other words. smile.gif I'm open and flexible.

I really like the ideas for Scar and Void. I think they'd fit perfectly in the ideas I've got.So I guess it'd be your call really.
Abschalten
I enjoy Void more, but Scar's probably more appropriate if you're wanting to incorporate Vice. I'll get to work on him tonight when I get home. smile.gif

Anyone who has character concepts, you can either post them here, or send them to me in a PM. I'll update the first post with characters and players as they come in.

I would love to play, I usually GM for my group. I'm totally down with a game focusing on Seattle and the syndicates. I'm usually a utility player when I play--I make a char to fill in whatever holes the team may have--so I've gotta think about some concepts for a second. (Want to be sure I cement one before other folks fill up the roster! smile.gif )

Quick query: Which syndicate did you have in mind for the PC's interactions? (If you don't mind sharing.)

Cool, hit me up with a concept when you can. I'll save you a spot. grinbig.gif

As for which syndicate, I plan The Mafia and Yakuza being the bigger players. With the Triads and Vory playing slightly smaller roles. You guys are going to be able to do jobs for them all, but plenty on bonuses go with helping one syndicate over another, along with enemies. So it's really up to the PCs what their actual involvement with each syndicate is.
Martin_DeVries_Institute
OK, an ork employee of Hez Records (Orxploitation label with Vory ties) who, in the last year has found himself tangled up with the Exchange. Working with the Exchange has shown him that Hez isn't a clean business, and has gotten him tangentially involved with shadow operations. He wants to learn more. He's a young, general focus character, who may develop into hacking or rigging.
That's the basics. Perfectly willing to adjust where necessary, and I'm still nailing down specifics.
HugeC
I'm still working on a full background write-up, but here is the short version.

Crimson - A former Renraku citizen and would-be Red Samurai who goblinized with the passing of Halley's Comet and was drummed out of his billet as a result. His SIN was erased in the crash of '64, and he slipped into the shadows rather than continue on as a Renraku wageslave. He joined a gang (which one TBD), and eventually moved up to contract work for the syndicates. On a botched collection job, he accidentally shot and nearly killed a young girl (Big Regret). Since then, he never does wetwork on civilian targets; only those capable of defending themselves with deadly force. Considers himself a ronin, and comports himself as a professional.

Ork? Or Troll?
HugeC
Ork! Heh, can't believe I didn't mention that.
Belvidere
So we've got two so far. We need a hacker and a mage and I'll be happy. Then we can has everything else, well two other anythings. grinbig.gif
Martin_DeVries_Institute
OK, then I will definitely refine me to be a hacker. Maybe even a technomancer--it'll give me an opportunity to actually learn their ruleset.

Cool, just be warned.. if you start rolling 40 some odd dice to hack on the fly... I may kill you. grinbig.gif Just 10d6 lightning bolts, no saving throws. Hehehe

I kid, but just be wary if you wanna go technomancer. They can be vastly overpowered when it comes to... well anything involving the matrix.

You know, I've played several technomancers, know their ruleset very well, and all the tricks... and I generally find them to be pretty good, but not quite "vastly overpowered." It's also sorta hard to be a technomancer and most anything else.

My worst offender was a dronomancer, but he was a karma and money sink and I had to work three times as hard as the other characters to be "awesome." Granted his killcount was getting close to triple digits...
Martin_DeVries_Institute
Yeah, so I've heard ever since I started coming to DS. Believe me, I've no intent to start jacking up major dice pools and breaking into GridGuide or anything. smile.gif But I'm definitely curious about them. I figure Clef is going to be young, still new to technomancy, and therefore not a gamebreaker.
Minchandre
How do you feel about a Chaos Mage? With heavily idealistic libertarian extropian leanings?

Cool, I always like the idea of being new to technomancy. Sounds good to me!

Sounds interesting. Just find a way to kind of work it into a slightly more street level, syndicate working game and you're good. grinbig.gif

The Eclipse Phase game is down the hall. wink.gif

Seriously, though. I like Chaos Magic and Libertarianism. I'd be interested to see what you can do with that if the GM likes it.
Belvidere
Okay guys, I'm off to bed but I'll be back in the morning. So if anyone works on their characters and gets them all done. Just throw it to me at my e-mail

twizjsly@yahoo.com

Oh, and for anyone who is already in, or wants to fill one of the remaining slots. Make sure you give me a bit of character background. Mainly where you came from, why you run, and how you've become involved in the syndicates. Could be anything, just want something.

Night guys!

He's on the street because the corps are just stagnating and holding back humanity's destiny. The system is hopelessly complacent and corrupt, and only violent outside influence will bring it down and help to achieve the Singularity.

I might be interested, an elf face probably not sure about the background yet, and how she's connected to the syndicates, but I'll cook something up.
Minchandre
By the way, how do you feel about Erased? I've noticed some GMs are crazy about it. Here, it would represent my character's hacker buddies (maybe even a free AI?) keeping him under the radar.
Red-ROM
heres my character, he's kind of a generalist, which is what it sounded like you were going for

This moved fast! I'm definitely in, and I'm sure Mr. Mage would be interested as well. smile.gif I'll come up with some concepts and run them by you.

-DrZaius

EDIT: I've got an Ork Underground Mage with a political agenda that I wrote recently; I recently came up with a concept for an Adept underground Boxer type (also perhaps an Ork) that could be a lot of fun. Let me know if either of those ideas would fit well, and I'll flesh them out more.

Oh of course I want in! Kinda surprising how fast this moved...hehe, barely got a chance to do anything about it

As for what kind of character I would play, I suppose it would really depend on who is playing what.

I have the most experience with a Mage, particularly a conjurer, but could play an adept/sammy easily. If we need a rigger or a hacker I can do that too, I'll just have to re-read all of the matrix rules and such so I know what it is I need to do. Hell, after looking real quick I didn't see if we had a Face yet, I can do that too if needed! I can design a few characters in a snap so if you want I can post a few up later.

I'm so excited!

EDIT: I won't be able to draw up a character until around 6pm ECT (as in New York) since I will be away from my books and such until then...save me a spot if you can though please!
HugeC
OK, here's what I've got worked up for my character.

Bill "Big Train" McCann

Hmm. After seeing Huge C's guy, we seem somewhat similar, although the two could certainly butt heads on how things would get done.

Both orks, both adepts, but looks like the similarities end there. I think in the head-butting department, Big Train has a definite advantage! smile.gif

I had originally planned Crimson as a mystic adept, his only magical skill Counterspelling, but ended up going with Astral Perception and Assensing instead. I could switch back if the feeling is we have too many straight adepts.

Or I could play something else, if the consensus is that there are too many straight adepts. I've got a human face with a quick trigger finger (and a remarkably illegal cyberarm), my Marxist Ork Mage, or anything else I cook up.

Okay, I've got the three characters who've posted actual stats and given me some background. If you'd like me to save you a spot I'll need a PM and you character concept/role.

Remaining roles:
Musts:
Mage

Optional:
Face
Stealth Ops
Rigger
Other stereotypes I'm missing...

Additionally, if any of my contacts or background need to change to fit the setting, I'm not married to anything by any stretch of the imagination (i.e. if it would make more sense for him to know a Triad Lt, or owe the Yaks money..)

You're all good, it still works. I like the idea of everyone having different pulls and ties to different syndicates. Makes for some tough group decisions when working against certain groups and with others.
Martin_DeVries_Institute
I'm finalizing stats and whatnot now, Belvidere. I'll get those to you ASAP--shouldn't be more than half an hour.
Belvidere
As an announcement to everyone. There is only a single slot open(and for a magician). And I believe this is going to Minchandre. Though I still need confirmation. Other than that, we are full.

Characters that are to be included are posted as of right now.
Martin_DeVries_Institute
Aww, drek. That's what I get for going to sleep... well if Minchandre decides not to I can whip up a mage lickety-split.

Well according to the edited first post, you're in the game at least...what were you going to do besides a Mage? and its not like a party need only have one mage, we have 5-6 people so some overlapping is expected.

Hahaha, yeah, just hit me up when you've got you're mechanical end all worked out. Were you still going to go with the Ork who's involved with Hez records and the Vory for your concept?
Martin_DeVries_Institute
Yes. He's very low-level, not sure of his place in the world--he's young, unsure of himself, and while he thought this job was a way of getting his family out of Carbonado it turns out the Vory ties to Hez Records might pull him into shadow-work.

Cool, I like the ideas for everyone characters so far.

Time to start work on the intro!

If I have everyone's characters tonight after my shift at work, (Should be around 8pm Eastern[Michigan]) I can probably start it tomorrow. Which would be awesome! Though I can definitely give it some more time if people would like, so we c an talk about everyones interests.
