Maybe it's just a punishment for buying a product as lame as the iPad.

sure, but the question is, does it have >500 bucks worth of rockage? because, as it just so happens, my $550 has exactly $550 worth of rockage in it, and i'd hate to trade it in for some shiny new toy with only a couple hundred bucks worth of rockage in it. particularly when i probably only have to wait a while, and i can get something that has 90% of the ability at 1/5 the price.

Yeah it really does. I have over 600 RPGs on mine. Countless novels. And it can access the internet, email, word programs, my Ipod songs, Movies in high def, and 1000s and 1000s of aps.
So sure, if you hold out 10 years you might get something with 90% the ability at 1/5 the price. I'll enjoy my Ipad (( and her younger sisters I'm sure)) for those 10 years.

As a side note. Shadow run RPG books look amazing on her.

The Shadow run books look very very nice on the Ipad.
The only problem I've seen is that the 6th world Almanac's maps don't work quite right. Not sure why, but myself and others have commented on it. Everthing else works great though.

Some notes:
6th world reads very Huffington Post at times. It's a corrupt world, but hardly dystopian. In many ways it's a better world than today. I think there's less metahuman phobia in 2072 than there is homophobia in today's world.
2042: Veil Agents? I missed something somewhen. Who are the Veil agents?
As a Conn native, thanks for blowing up that casino. I laughed.
Istanbul was Constantinople... Again, thanks for making me smile.
Ma’fan's last line on the Olympics and scandal was great. It highlights a wonderful theme. "If the future is Dystopian, maybe it's it's because it has Shadowrunners." These people, as a group, seem to be the cause of most of their own problems and they blame everyone else for their own actions. That really appeals to my sense of irony.

Veil was a secret agency which was tasked with keeping the photos of dragon skeletons and pyramids on Mars secret, and they probably had something to do with the secret first Mars landing.

PDFs work on the iPad.
There is a problem with some of the map graphics when displayed on the iPad.
Other than this, the PDFs work fine - and I'm certain CGL will correct this problem sometime soon? Right CGL?

True that. It's old fashioned race bias that took the hit: most people are now bigoted towards metas, not skin color. Exceptions still exist, of course. There's textual support for this; I'm just don't have time to look it up right now.

Yeah, I'm sure if you're a gay, half black, half latino, Muslim (with a Jewish mother), troll... Life sucks a special sort of hard for you.
I also find it very easy to believe that people who have a problem with people who look roughly equivalent to them will have a problem with people who have horns or are undying soulless pointy eared creatures...

Suoq has a point, though. We're thinking in a purely North American/UCAS context, but outside that I'm sure there are places where things are quite different. First of all, his comparison to homophobia today...it's getting better here, but look at attitudes towards gay people in Africa or the Middle East. Secondly, in Shadowrun, there's plenty of places where metatype is a lesser issue than other things. In India nobody gives a damn if you have horns if you're a Brahmin. In Sarajevo, it's whether you're a Serb, a Croat or a Bosniak, and all other considerations are on the back burner; ethnicity outweighs metatype in Russia and Southeast Asia as well. A francophone troll is higher up on the totem pole than an anglophone human in Quebec. In much of the NAN, metatype attitudes are better, but the Native/Anglo divide is quite real. It's not all Seattle anymore.

Actually, my comment was based off a recurrent meme in the books running commentary. A good number of the characters express disbelief/confusion over how bad it was. The book gives the impression that metahumans are considered normal and acceptable. The protesters are a thing of the past. Heck, one of the stories has a character shaking a ghouls hand. Soon, it seems, ghouls will have equal rights, play soccer, and work in the mail room.

The German shadowhelix wiki has released a first blank prototype of their map project, which (contrary to the 6WA) looks like a map and not like google earth, has gridlines, corrected border-/coastlines and is available in a freely scaleable format. Kudos to the makers

Nope, so far the blank prototype is a blank prototype

But it already has something the "official" map is severely missing, a grid. If I know where to put them, I can mark places myself.

Unless that point B is a national capital or maybe one of the major cities you won't find it on a world map, anyway. That's why grid lines are important, they allow the user to find their backwater village without having to actually show every backwater village (and turn the map into a scatter diagram).

I'll admit it. I'm lost. If you want detail for an area, why not grab a current detailed map and draw any major shadowrun lines on it?
For example, I've got this lovely UCAS/NAN border based on time zones running through the middle of Nebraska. It's not that hard to grab a map of Nebraska, draw the jagged line on it. Modify the map to remove dead towns, add new towns, landmarks, zones of control/influence, etc.
The 4 other choices are nice and if someone hasn't bought 6th world in PDF form, they're pretty useful, but that's about it. They're not so good that I feel the desire to use them instead of the map I have.
