and a towel.

Well, obviously. That's like mentioning that you should bring your leg. wink.gif

There are IR flashlights in the game. Argue with the game. smile.gif

IR flashlights aren't impossible. Modern IR lasers like the AN/PEQ-2 have a wide beach "flashlight" function.

However, as pointed out, they wouldn't affect thermals. I don't know what kind of visibility penalties you can have for thermals. You either can see the heat, or you can't. The only thing that would cause visibility penalties would be thermal smoke or large heat sources.

Again, argue with the game. Thermo takes penalties from darkness/partial light, glare, mist/rain/smoke, and thermal smoke, and the IR flashlight counters those (presumably, just for darkness and partial light).

Hotsim module.
If you are ever going to interact with a friendly electronic device, do it in hotsim. +2 dice for all actions, and -1 to piloting thresholds.

Which is why I said, it's a case of "did not do the research".

You also find that in SR firearms stuff quite a lot.

And glass. You can't see through glass with thermals. Strange But True TM.

Where does it say that? Are you sure you're not confusing it with Ultrasound?

Or perhaps you mean "For real" as opposed to "What the rules are reading" Since it's technically true that IR doesn't pass through glass as well as light since glass is meant to pass VISIBLE light and is a thermal insulator... but still. In the rules the only thing explicity excluded is ultrasound.

Yeah, he's talking about reality.

Yeah, he's talking about reality.

Darn reality, always getting in the way of games.

I've come more and more to realize that SR didn't 'get anything wrong' they just have a different set of physical laws. So sure, in our mundane, non-magical world, IR doesn't go through glass, but in SR, it does go through glass. Sure, their guns aren't the same as our guns, but that is because they aren't our guns.
