And we're off! Hope ya'll don't mind a bit of a cold open, I figured we might as well get to the point instead of spend several weeks introducing eachother for little benefit. In case you guys missed it during my inane descriptions, you are all hidden in the mountains underneath camouflage netting, not at the airstrip.

Don't worry about suddenly entering combat or being spotted, you're safe from that so long as you don't make a dead run for the airstrip or start shooting. Feel free to take your time to set the scene, get your bearings, and talk with eachother to figure out what's going on.

Oh yeah, and before any of you ask: All of your handheld equipment and redshirts are right there with you in the ditch. Vehicles are there too, but for the sake of stealth they were left behind a little bit further away from the airstrip. The vehicles are also under some netting, just to be thorough.

Modern Chinese as a writing system is pretty unique in that it can be read across multiple languages. Cantonese and Mandarin, even though not mutually intellgible and are completely different languages in their own rights, are still called "Chinese," mostly for geopolitical reasons.

However, even though speakers of one cannot understand the other, they can still read the same newspaper together. The logographic Chinese written language crosses those language barriers, and isn't specific to any one "dialect" of Chinese.

Though I'll IC to this effect soon, I figure I should make my intentions clear here.

I'd like to drop into full VR, do a bit of electronic warfare, then jump into the blimp and fly the drone over the camp and do some spying. I'm just guessing on these tests, so please correct me if I'm making the wrong ones. One notable assumption is that I'm treating piloting a drone as a matrix action such that I'm getting hot sim bonuses to perception tests with drone sensors.

In order, I'd like to start:

1) Scanning for radar signals or other drone/network traffic.
Sniffer 5 + EW 2 = Scanning for Radar/Drones/Network (7d6.hits(5)=4, 7d6.hits(5)=4, 7d6.hits(5)=2, 7d6.hits(5)=1, 7d6.hits(5)=4)

If traffic other than asian network chatter (especially if its radar) is detected then abort the rest of these actions

2) Flying high and trying to stay out of sight (abort if this seems unlikely due to sunset silhouetting drone or other reasons)
Response 5 + Control Rig 2 + Full VR Hot Sim 2 + -1 Default to infiltration + (please add modifiers for lighting/being way above heads of target) = Infiltration for drone. (8d6.hits(5)=1)

3) Perception to see if I'm spotted
Sensor 3 + Perception 1 + Full VR Hot Sim 2 = 6d6.hits(5)=3

Abort further actions if I notice that I'm spotted

4) Spying with laser mic (at watch tower first then at any windows or thin material on hangar)
Sensor 3 + Perception 1 + Mic Rating 6 + Full VR Hot Sim 2 = Laser Mic at starting airfield (12d6.hits(5)=9, 12d6.hits(5)=3)

5) If targets seems to spot drone, a couple of piloting rolls to hightail it.
Response 5 + Pilot Aircraft 5 + Control Rig 2 + Full VR Hot Sim 2 = Piloting away from site (14d6.hits(5)=3, 14d6.hits(5)=4, 14d6.hits(5)=5, 14d6.hits(5)=5)

Good news is: You get your spent edge back due to the fact you couldn't use it. Unless of course you want to spend the next 48 minutes probing while things go down.

I don't believe it was ever mentioned what we are intending to do with Tshombe. I'm assuming get information out of him that should lead toward Ngobobo. Of course I could have missed something.

Vehicles are further back and concealed, yes. We've got the advantage of being obscured by darkness as well, so as long as they aren't flying in on thermal we should be good.

As for Yshombe, which is now codenamed Rent Cheque, he may have information on our ultimate target Ngobobo, now codenamed Payday. The Corporate Court is also paying for Payday's associates. It's a good first step to take - and if we could get a Deck of 52 or something like that, that would be fantastic.

@Our Illustrious, Deitific GM: What's the procedure for getting paid on those? Do we radio in a pickup, or do we have to make the dropoff ourselves at the nearest government firebase for this monkey?

The procedure for taking in a live target is that you gotta bring them back yourself. Might get a free pickup if capturing a target specifically requested by whoever wants it, but even then you gotta ask for that, then negotiate WHY you deserve it.

Dead is much simpler, just gotta bring back conclusive evidence that the guy is dead by your hands. Severed heads are a favorate, but distasteful if going somewhere civillized. A few photographs of the corpse and a syringe full of blood for DNA analysis is another way, but you gotta convince them that the guy is actually dead instead of merely posing for photo's if you do it that way. Or you could just bring the body itself, but that might be a pain if you need to leave quick and the target still has a few friends shooting at you.

Of course, it goes without saying that if you kill a target that is supposed to be taken alive, you get no money. Dead-Or-Alive targets usually pay full for alive and half for dead, though sometimes it's the same pay regardless of if they live or not. Then there are dead-only contracts, but those are more commonly known as Assassinations.

And before you ask, yes Tshombe is 'Dead Or Alive', though you'd probably want him alive long enough to tell you something about Merode. He's a small fry, so the pay is only 50,000 nuyen.gif Alive/25,000 nuyen.gif Dead.

If you payed attention to the little bit at the end of opening newscast narration you'd probably note that the african governments and the corporate interests around the country are the ones openly offering money for Ngobobo and his cronies. So it'd only be reasonable that you'd call them and set up a meeting place once you capture the target.

Reason for not doing the f3 was that I am strapped for bp as is and I wanted the f3 manipulation one to hold my Control Thoughts (Animal) Spell to drop spirits into them unresisted and not have to sustain a spell while summoning.

Wasn't sure if I should start combat with one less edge or potentially hurt. I'll unstrike it and add a second drain roll.

Well Pragma, I tried to wait, but everyone else was ready to go so it was onto autopilot you went. You ain't booted for inactivity yet, no worries.

@Aria: No, there's not really a google maps link I could provide. The zoom for Africa gets pretty damn shitty the further you are from major cities, which means 97% of the country is an indescribable blur if you try to zoom in close enough to make out anything. That said I did scout out the area beforehand, but there sure as hell ain't no private airstrip there in 2011!

Basically put, you are currently hiding East of the Airstrip. The primary runway runs from the Southeast(rearmost) to the Northwest(frontside) so as to not go directly into the Illizi airport traffic. The primary hangar is near the rearmost section of the runway, likely for miminal taxi'ing requirements, though there is a few smaller hangars and shacks dotted all over the place. The air control tower is about halfway along the main runway, giving it a good view of damnwell everything. The mansion is directly North of the whole thing.

No worries, though this last post cycle caught me while traveling your decision is almost exactly what I wanted to do.

If it's not too late to retcon a tiny bit and my knowledge skills or common sense don't suggest otherwise, I'd prefer to land on top of the control tower and deflate a bit to blend in with the hopefully similarly colored surface. After that, I'd launch again as soon as the plane touches down -- no one should be looking up at that point.

If not, I'd still like to take advantage of the distraction caused by the plane landing to refine my hiding spot; if there's any brush in the back of the hanger I'll try to lightly dump it in that.

Regardless, I'll laser mic the hangar as soon as the opportunity presents itself. Using the same modifiers as I did on the last page.

Thanks, don't think there's any need to change my post then, will sneak around from the south of our position now making the most of brush / shacks etc for cover from the tower (will rely more on the dark and chameleon coating! -4 visual and -3 thermo)

Furthermore, you can only spend Edge to negate the Glitch, not to reroll the failures thereby (most likely) negating the Glitch; you could do that to increase the hits, but the Glitch would still occur.

Though a regular Glitch is more of an inconvenience, it does not mean your roll failed.
The 4 hits still count, but you might crawl over the lair of a poisonous snake or something. biggrin.gif

Actually what I think should happen is this:

Lynx and Requiem are the only two PCs have have anything invested in Longarms to a notable degree. We need the two guys in the tower taken out at the same time, in tandem, so no alarms can be called out. I think perhaps Lynx and Requiem should stay back and focus in on the targets, one on each, while everyone else moves in and tries to get into a favorable positions.

Our EW guys will lock down the plane so it can't go anywhere, and any helpful drones can be positioned to assist with the combat as well. Aerial support in this regard would be magnificent.

With the tower taken out, we can advance on foot and we can split the redshirts up into two teams and flank around the hangar. Then we'll launch the attack and try to take them out as quickly as possible, and hope that we can take Tshombe alive.

If anybody walks out onto the battlefield, as targets of opportunity, our snipers can pick them off. If the battle moves indoors, they can hop into one of our vehicles and then close in quickly to provide closer assistance, since they are also our more seasoned combatants.

The redshirts would be split up evenly between teams headed initially by Hatfield and Cor. Hatfield has a useful knowledge skill, and Cor has his Leadership pool which can help the redshirts fight more effectively.

Does anybody have an issues with this? It just seems the most logical and careful approach. Granted everything falls apart when bullets leave the chamber, but at least we can try to get advantages on our side rather than blundering in and getting all shot up.
