Full Version: Mind Control

Pretty much like the topic says, I'm writing an adventure for my players and I'm wondering how many ways there are ingame to control a person's actions. It doesn't necessarily have to be full-on mind control, but any way at all of controlling how a person acts and speaks is what I'm looking for here.

Off the top of my head, I know there's several manipulation spells that do the trick, but for how long do they work?
Are there any non-magical methods of mind control?

Sengir
Stirrup Interface from Augmentation arguably works on humans, as it effectively is a Move-by-Wire system with remote control. Or good old-fashioned blackmail, cranial bombs or hostages can be quite convincing...

Thats not mind control persay.

I do know that simsense can be used to brain wash people.

The Control Actions and Control Thoughts Mental Manipulation spells. Caster is rolling Spellcasting+Magic. The target first resists with Willpower+Counterspelling, and then can spend a Complex Action every (Force) Turns to make a new roll, further diminishing the number of net hits. When reduced to 0, the spell no longer affects the target. So, this is not going to last more than a few minutes at best.

Possession Spirit. The spirit takes a Complex Action, rolling Forcex2 against the target Intuition+Willpower. One net hit is enough, but if the spirit fails, he cannot retry before the next sunrise or sunset. Unless banished, the spirit can retain control of the body as long as it is willing or ordered to : next sunrise or sunset for a summoned spirit, forever if bound (and if you ask me, yes, this is overpowered).
Saint Sithney
Programmable ASSIST Biofeedback Conditioning. Straight up brainwashing by simsense. It's in Unwired. It only changes memories though, and it takes weeks of work to do. It is pretty much permenant alteration though. First a guy has to identify which memories are false and then they have to undergo the same process to reverse the brainwashing.

Other than that, there's the Influence spell and the Alter Memory spell. Influence can last as long as the person it's cast on doesn't question the effects. Every time they question their behavior, they roll to reduce net hits. Same with Alter Memory.

Don't you mean per se? There's an admin at work who often tries to appear erudite by mixing Latin into her emails but it backfires when she demonstrates she can't spell the Latin words! It's not quite as bad as the Architect's speech from the matrix films, but it's still very cringeworthy.

You got grammarbaited.

It's a fairly common expression that I spelled phonetically. Sorry if I didn't take dead languages in high school.
Xahn Borealis
I wish dead languages was an option at my school. Even if I'd only end up learning the Latin for 'bitch' and ending every sentence with it.

The Commanding Voice adept power is a good one.

I don't recall whether RAW has a drug for suggestibility but creating a realistic one shouldn't be too tricky.

If you really push the OP's criteria illusion spells could qualify. I.e. it's not actually controlling the subject, but it will make others think he's doing what you want them to think he's doing.

Would hacking a guy's don module work? As in subjecting him to stimuli that would evoke the desired actions. Illusion spells could work this way too.

Good ol' fashioned blackmail.
Stahlseele
All you need is a drug that lowers willpower.
Seeing how suggestions and the such are resisted with willpower, or willpower at least being a huge part of said resistance, you basically have a mind control drug.
Hence, alcohol.
