This thread is the OOC thread for
Urteil IC. Character descriptions can be found
here.
Guidelines for the IC thread: the IC thread is for IC
only. Kill your sig while you're posting there, and turn smilies
off. For archival purposes, rolls should either be included in a spoilertag in the IC thread (this is an exception to the above rule) or should link to the IC thread with an anchor to the relevant post. Under most circumstances, make the rolls yourselves (you're on the honor system); I reserve the right to make any roll for you, whether or not you've made it yourselves; I'll let you know if I do. Some rolls I make will have results that you will not be privy to; I'll usually alert you that the roll was made, but not always. Stealth and Perception tests especially will be frequently hidden. Same with Negotiations (Fast Talk) or similar.
I'll let you know when you're free to post in the IC thread, I'm still working on the intro.
Any questions?

Is this game open or private?
If it's open, what are your restrictions for characters?

The game is closed, being an extension of
this thread. I'll let you know if there are any openings later.

There are now three other teams in your experimental HTR section. The teams are named Odin, Thor, Loki, and your team, Tyr. I'll go more into detail later; suffice it to say that Loki is comprised primarily of infiltrators and negotiators, Thor is the really heavy hitters, and Odin is the just plain scary do-just-about-anything team.

And we are all about Justice. Tyr rules!
Can we hate the guys in Loki, and constantly try to kick their asses in our cop bars?
edit: Hans' description is up.

One thing we should put into the Character Description thread is what the characters primary role for the team is. Their skills and fuctions, etc.

Let's work that out here, then we can add it.
Hans is an all around investigator. His background is a backwoods sheriff, where he'd be first on the scene, do first aid, CSI, interrogation, investigation and arrest with no assistance or back-up. So he's decent at everything a cop does, but not great, and he's got clout and stunball at 6 each
As well as spirits and that whole astral tracking thing.

James is the team Vehicle rigger. He also does Drones, but they aren't his main focus. He's got the
Van and three Strato-9s (all of which have been upgraded with autosoft systems). He considers Pistols to be a pussy weapon, preferring a real mans SPAS-22 (or his grenage launcher). He is not your people person, lacking any social skills at all, but whatever, we got others for that fluff work.
Any questions?

No harm done, luckily enough the post that I'm writing is Levin's speech to the team, so you fit in. Try to check the OOC stuff before you make actions, though...

James Connor is an infiltrator / negotiator and a big fan of silent, non-lethal methods. If he can, he prefers stealth to confrontation and incapacitation to killing. His dart-pistol achieves both of these. He is also the team decker.

This could get interesting...
Decker and Rigger as polar opposites, both called James.

Natasha (Sergeant Greenwood) is basically all muscle and speed (she can be very stealthy too, but don't ask for infiltration). She's extremely fast, athletic and an incredibly good sharp-shooter. She will almost always use gel rounds so that she doesn't kill the criminals and so that they get punished by the law and not simply by her gun. She is known to obey orders straightforwardly and she is a good at working in team.

IC open. Start thy posting.
Also keep in mind that I'm not an expert on proper police terminology; I don't even watch CSI. I try to make sure that I get everything right, but if I slip up, just chalk it up to evolution of speech patterns over the next fifty-eight or so years.

Please allow me to again suggest GURPS Cops to anyone wanting to run a police related campaign in any time or place or game system. It may be the best RPG supplement there is. Actually written by an insider in the criminal justice system (she's a public defender in Boston), it really nails down the details.

That's cool. I just really like the book.
Anyway, I need about a million times more info than our boss is giving us. I don't want to hassle him in character if SOP is that I get the details on the scene.
Basics. How many stories is the building? What floors are the bad guys and hostages on? Have they killed anyone yet ('cause that'll make it a lot harder to get them to surrender)? Have any of them been ID'd? Is there any magic either with the hostages or the bad guys? Are they human, metahuman or a mix? What are they after? Who's in charge of the scene, and where do we fit in the chain of command? And who's our team leader?
Grey
Mar 24 2004, 06:43 PM
Yeah. What he said.

Mar 24 2004, 06:46 PM
You get most of the details on the scene. Stuff you'd already know: local Star officers have responded and surrounded the place, but have pulled back. You're going in to take care of things; you're on a separate chain of command, though if you call for backup it will be heeded. The idea, though, is that you take care of things yourselves on this one to show how effective the elite of Lone Star are.
As for team leader, you can either decide that amongst yourselves or it can go to the person with the highest Leadership skill. In case of ties, it goes to the person with the highest Small Units Tactics plus Charisma. In case of ties after that, well, we'll figure out what to do from there. If you haven't figured out what your internal chain of command is, I'll figure it out when I get back from class.

Add to that, "Do we have matrix-access?", "is Westmarch Software willing to give me security-codes?" (hey, a man can ask), "What security systems are in place and how were they disabled?", "How are the suspects armed?"
Of course, half those questions rely on luck/surveillance and the other half on having senior Westmarch Software employees handy for questioning...

I think that we should begin by putting someone in charge of the group, that way things will get rolling. I think that it should be one of the face/inpector/detective types, but that's just me. So I would go for either James Connor or Hans. If my character has something to say about it, she trusts mundanes better than mages, even if they're deckers.
As for leadership, I have a small tactical groups leadership rating of 4.
Bearclaw
Mar 24 2004, 09:21 PM
Hans has no leadership type skills. He'll take the job if he's asked to, but he'd never seek it out.
Beast of Revolutions
Mar 24 2004, 10:49 PM
Rick has leadership 4, as well as ettiquette. He's more of a combat leader than a detective though. A question I wanted to ask is, what are our salaries? Since we are regular corp employees, we should be getting a bi-weekly salary rather than getting paid on a per-task basis like runners.

Connor has no real leadership skills, though I suppose negotiation is not a bad substitute. A 149lb elf leading a team of meaty trolls, stocky dwarves and muscular orks though...
First question would be, who has negotiation or psychology skills? We have a hostage situation and we need intelligence. (as in recon, not as in disrespecting trolls - I am not that brave...)
Connor is a charismatic negotiator / infiltrator depending on the situation. What other relevant skill-sets do people have? (I am not intentionally taking over, just trying to view the options - I am a strategist, not a tactician...)

Mar 24 2004, 10:59 PM
Carlos isn't a leader by any means. Fortunately, he does have the stunball spell, which should be very useful here. I assume knocking the hostages unconscious is alright?
Firewall
Mar 24 2004, 11:04 PM
So, should we appoint Rick leader for the purpose of this mission? Ex-SWAT would make sense given the nature of Asgard (though I am worried IC by the "And is there any specific reason for wanting not to kill them?" question)
Beast of Revolutions
Mar 24 2004, 11:12 PM
Well, in hostage situations the police don't generally worry about not killing the hostage takers, and that's in real life. Imagine what it would be like in the future. I'm just wondering whether he wants them for interrogation. Anyway, I think having 2 leaders would be good. I could be the leader for combat purposes, while someone else, maybe Connor, could be the leader for doing legwork and other non-combat stuff.

Depends on whether we are using the SR definition of flechette or the real-life one. Can we get confirmation on that?
Also, do we know each other or will the scene in 'The Van' be the introductions?
Grey

The general idea accross the forum is that it only fires flechette, but that is up to Kagetenshi.

That would be me, Connor. Looking at the other squads, I am a perfect Loki archetype; negotiation / infiltration and a decker too. Mind you, I suppose Tyr needed a Loki-style decker to balance out the Thor-style big guns.

Mar 24 2004, 11:53 PM
Kara's a leader by Intimidation type, she's got Leadership at 2, but the knowledge that she wouldn't hesitate to shoot a member of her team for insubordination was what kept them in line. Mind you, she has no desire to lead right now.
Notable also, she's made no effort to re-load her Thunderbolts, or any of her pistols for that matter. The big boys said "alive if possible" that doesn't mean uninjured. Kara'd definitly be an Odin type.
Firewall
Mar 24 2004, 11:58 PM
Kara is an Odin-style, Connor is a Loki-style and Grey is a Thor-style. So what is Tyr's over-riding theme? Are we the balance, the more flexible team?

Grey - James 'Grey' Ragland (Orc Vehicle Rigger - Vehicles/Drones/Heavy Support)
Digital Heroin - Kara O'Riley (Human Adept - Intimidation/Charisma/Gun-Fu)
Panzergeist - Carlos Mason (Dwarf Mage - Magical Combat/Support)
Beast of Revolutions - Sergeant Rock Striker (Orc Ex-SWAT - Combat Leader)
