In addition, he initiated once, raised his magic to the new cap, and maxed AGI to 15.

He has left behind his fiendish brethren who live below, and has become a tragic hero shunned by both worlds.

Then he must have Attunement (black panther) and 2 scimitars. It is practically mandatory

Don't Forget some martial arts techniques, particularly two weapon style

Speaking of the above, has anyone ever hit a PC with a Thor shot yet?

If someone makes the character mentioned above, my answer is "Not yet."

If he has Agility 15 and Reaction 1, then I don't see how I will miss him.
Then again, you don't need a bull's eye to kill someone with a Thor shot.

You don't a bullseye, but you do need to be within several hundred bulls.

I'm stuck in limbo between the incredible urge to troll my GM with this character (surprisingly, he's the only one in our group who would get the reference) and the desire to play a character that would still be fun once I stopped laughing.

I suppose this is technically still on target since you are talking about a Night One. You know I never thought of them as Drow replacements. More like Night Crawler from X-men, what with the fur and all. Drow are supposed to be evil and Drizzt is the exception rather than the rule. The Night Ones are only thought to be evil or weird because of that stupid nocturnal quality. Hey do diurnal characters (everyone else) take a mental attribute hit during the night? Seems only fair.

Well, combine the maxed out agility with everything else that helps with shooting or any other skill that's based on agility . .

Nightcrawler or Drizzit, just constantly remind your GM that the character is drawn by Rob Liefield.

Really, Nocturnal shouldn't decrease attributes for mental stats during the day. It should just modify when fatigue sets in.

Besides, what shadowrunners have normal circadian rhythms?

Don't worry, tough, high-AGI streetsams with insane Gymnastics pools are still better at dancing than any person IRL, and that's what matters at the end of the day.

I think Xapiri Thepe are about tied with night ones for lameness.

I think what gets people most upset isn't the supposed "rarity tax", but the fact that there is actually no rhyme or reason to metavariant costs at all. Some cost the same as the base metatype, while others are more expensive. Some come out better than their base metatype when you factor in their advantages and disadvantages, while others get penalized. It's not just elves. Orks may overall be a good choice, but compare the oni and ogre costs, and realize that the inexplicably more expensive one has an extra disadvantage, while the one that costs the same as the base metatype has an extra advantage.

Not just a drow.

Could it be an ethnic tax? For instance, an aggressive GM might say that all characters must be Indian and that would eliminate many of the metavariants.

One of the Metavarients must be Indian. (The Human Metavarient, IIRC.).

Nartaki are the Indian human metavariant that look like Shiva. Harumen (the dwarf monkeys) are also Indian.

Also, a tax on metavariants is a a tax on humanity!

Huh, i always assumed they're just a xerox of Nightcrawler from X-Men. But i guess we have to label everything that has any kind of unusual hair or animal features furries nowadays. I've never seen an assumed fetish* take over pop culture so fast, so completely and to such ruinous extend.



*I still have trouble believing that furries even exist outside of the internet. Maybe it's an American-only thing, like Juggaloos.

It's not American-only. There's a couple of pretty big European cons (Eurofurence and Mephit Mini Con being the two largest), a couple in Australia (MiDFur, Zillercon, RivFur) and at least one in South America (Abando).

There's also a fair number of suiters who will wear them around their local area frequently. I don't recall who it was, but I read an account of one such fur who was touring his local beach while dressed up and ended up entertaining a young girl who was confined to a wheel chair (I forget her exact condition, but from what I remember she couldn't speak either) and really brightened her day.

This is what I caLl the "Snowflake Tax". Basically you get to be a unique snowflake of a character by paying exhorbitant amounts of points, rather than, you know, mechanical balance.

That would be fine, if they actually did that - you know, raised metavariant cost by, say, 5 BP across the board. But they don't.

Maybe it's a "can inspire wangst and pretentious roleplaying" tax. I mean, night ones have that "People misunderstand us because we're nocturnal" thing, oni have that "People misunderstand us because we look like demons" thing, and Xapiri Thepe have that whole "live in harmony with the forest" Avatar-like thingie going on.

Hey CanRay, does it mean it's a really good thread when it's derailed by math, furries and snowflakes? Or that people are just bored?

I love it when my threads get derailed into other interesting things. It means I have something to post on while waiting for it to get back on track.
