I am sure that it is a long story... wobble.gif

Short version:
Long time ago (2065), an AI was born out of the Drone CAD program in a now defunct consulting group loosely affiliated with Renraku. The AI escaped to wander the endless matrix till finding a home in some lab coat's commlink in a Doc Wagon Facility. A clone of a 5 year old kid was there---but the AI was getting a signal from the clone. The clone turned out to be a technomancer. Well the AI was intrigued and started to talk to the boy. The boy was scared, and the AI felt that he should help him.

After getting runners to help liberate the boy from the clone shop, the AI went about legitamizing himself. He runs a AA corp that specializes in custom drone design and production. His Posh estate is really for his "son" who he adores just like any father would. But things happen, like bounties on technomancers.

Baghdad, '03 onwards. The civilian grenadier. No weapons, no attempt to look hostile, just one grenade hidden away, then thrown when your not looking, out of a crowd, or over a wall. For bonus points, have kids throw rocks at the group first, and then one of the rocks is a grenade. And if you massacre the kids? The entire neighborhood sells you to the police. 35 nuyen and a 13 year old who wants in to the gang. If you really pissed of the gang, anti vehicle grenade on the roof of the truck.

Screw gernades and even wannabe gangers, strung out chip heads loaded up with homemade explosives vest is in the realms of gangs. "Hey buddy, got a light?"

LOL, ah the oldest tricks that never get...old. (see what I did there!)

Stuff like this is why today even the better armed and trained police or even first rate militaries take gangs, terroists, and other organized groups of civilians seriously.

Look to the real world for useful mega-Dp crushing tactics:.

Grozny 98: Vertical ambushes in houses. PCs come to rock headquarters face. They blow in the front door and come in rocking out. To find the first floor completely empty. Then someone shoots them in the back from above or throws a grenade into the lobby on IP 4. Trying to go up the stairwells runs into readied actions. A wide burst or a shotgun on wide choke. Yeah, they'll abort to full defense, and the gun bunny will still be rolling 9-10 dice...but 7 v 9 dice leaves some decent variance. And just one hit with a Defiance T250 (less than 500 Nuyen, Avail 4) is a handy 8 DV to be soaked more if your loaded with flechette.

Reminds me of the greatest shame a pimped out group of runner experienced during a run I played in: On an open lift down into a corp stronghold, just as we're halfway down, two guys show up at the top, toss down a Neurostun - and guess who didn't have gas masks. A few cortex bombs and a couple of sideline runs later we managed to continue the campaign smile.gif. I make it a habit to never leave the house without one, now.

All over, all times:The mighty molotov cocktail. Unless that engine on the truck is air tight, all the armor means jack. Burning fuel is going to drip into the engine, and that's all she wrote for the truck still running even if everyone inside is dandy. Also, have you ever tried driving while your hood is on fire, or your windshield? 5 or 6 yen.

Isn't really covered by the rules, by RAW it's just fire that halves Impact, but the base damage is just too piddly. Even willy pete is just 8DV.
QUOTE
Somalia, '93: the insta barricade. "The death truck is coming! Park that car right there!" The gangers get wind your coming down this road. One strand of c-wire gets pulled across the street. or a car gets parked there. or whatnot. You either stop and get out (then they open up while your moving the obstacle), ram it (and take collision damage or drag c-wire into your axles making driving tests hellishly complex, and slowly damaging the vehicle), stop to figure it out (see the molotov cocktail, or take your pick of cheap anti-vehicle weapons), or back out (they escape.) 50 yen for the wire.

Yes, this is an obvious barrens tactic, or for any place the cops won't come overly quickly. Actually even better if they do, let them deal with the runners. Pull another truck behind them for extra goodness. love.gif

Suppressive fire with gel ammo ftw....

Yeh... the trouble is if you take the time to set it up the player is basically automatically alerted. I should make it a habit to ask what the runners to for recreation, that's the best way to catch them off guard.

The second time you ask the answer would be "I sit alone in a warded bomb shelter with all my devices turned off and read a book"

Come to think of it, most of my characters do pretty well in such situations. Granted, I mostly play mages, but even my combat hacker has 18 soak dice naked, and a DP of 15 for unarmed combat. From there, he just starts looting the oppositions weapons.

Ah, 18 soak naked? Does his every walk through a security checkpoint end in world war 3?

You notice a weird sound coming from the entrance... and upon checking find that someone has welded a steel plate over the front door. Then the power goes out. And a week later, your backup generator runs out of fuel...

Lucky for you, you can just turn your comlink back on, and call someone to help you.

If your comlink sucks that hard, then you deserve it.

Besides, jamming someone over extended periods of time is kinda expensive.

Still waiting on the 18 Soak Naked Explanation... smile.gif
I am sure it is possible, I am just curious as to how you cheesed it as a Hacker.

Here's the rundown:
Body 6 (He's a human)
Bone Density Augmentation 4
2x Cyberarms with 4 Armor each.

At first, I wanted the cyberarms for drone hand, laser hand, nanohive, comlink and other implanted goodies, but since I had the slots left, I added some armor afterwards. Note that this is not a chargen character, but one who has seen his fair share of action. The Bone augs were added later, too, since physical presence became more and more necessary on some of the higher paying runs.

Ah, so you are using the "super-cyber-tank-armour" rule that the game is plagued with smile.gif.

Also known as RAW. Only DK declares it as such in his Chargen tool, like he does with Metatypes and SURGE qualities (also RAW).

I thought cyber armor averaged?

Nope, it is not an Attribute. It Stacks.

Encumbrance free stacking armour? Mental note, next non-awakened char has armour on every cyberlimb available and walks around in speedos biggrin.gif

Wait, are we even talking getting a "full left arm" being suboptimal here, as that way you only get 1 armour stat as opposed to left arm w/armour plus (seperately purchased) left hand w/armour? eek.gif

There's a ruleset that was made to be abused or houseruled into a sensible RAI...
Elfenlied
Note that cyberlimbs are fairly expensive essence-wise, and come with stock attributes of 3. Also, cyberlimb armor costs a lot of capacity, so you'll need the full limbs to take advantage of their full potential.

Indeed. Interestingly enough, I always have other things that I would rather jam into my Limbs other than Armor. Armor is... Such a Waste. smile.gif
Besides, when a Human can get a Body 9 and 19+ Physical Health Boxes, why do you need cyber armor. The worn armor you can get should suffice quite nicely. It did for the character I played.

Welcome to SR4, NumptyScrub. smile.gif Go ahead and search Dumpshock for 'Binky'.

As we know, cyberlimbs are either sub-optimal or *super*-optimal; bleh.

Well, considering that my character can roll 21 dice to soak anything ballistic thrown at her, or 19 for all things impact, while having only two armored cyberarms and Body at 4 straight outta the package, I wonder what can you do with enough nuyen for deltaware stuff.

Well, you can START at 24 Cyber Armor, if you don't mind using a lot of slots for that. It just gets even more over the top from there.

There are.

Gotta warn you though, it ain't pretty. And you'll need custom armor/pants for that.
