Your wait is FINALLY over!
Welcome to the Tango Down! OOC game thread. Here's some notes about this this game.
#1 This is a closed game. All the character positions are filled. I will not be taking any submissions.
#2 When posting in the IC thread, put quotes around what your character actually says, and put in italics his/her thoughts.
#3 Please disable your sig while posting in this game.
#4 Everyone needs to list the languages they speak on THIS thread so the rest of the characters will know. If your character wishes to say something in a lanuage other than English and not translate it for everyone else, you must PM myself and others who speak said language exactly what you said. If you want to translate it into english simply tag your text like this: "Thanks for the help, [russian]you cheating slitch.[/russian]"
#5 I will be doing a lot of the dice rolling. Not because I don't trust you, but because I feel that a lot of roll results need to be secret from the player. More often than not, this keeps you from blowing a roll at a critical time.
#6 Whenever I call for a roll, go ahead and remind me about any special modifiers you have to the TN from things like aptitude or smartlinks. I'll try to take everything into account, but I'll miss some things on occasion.
#7 I HATE open tests. They just don't reflect a persons skill level, IMO. So I replace all open tests with opposed tests vs. TN 4. For example, when making a stealth check, you roll your Stealth skill vs. TN 4 (+/- mods), and the opponent rolls his Perception vs. TN 4 (+/- mods). Whomever generates more successes wins the test.
As usual, any questions or comments can be posted here in this thread. Those of you who haven't sent me your final character draft, please do so ASAP.

Just in case your guys are confused, that first IC post is aimed at Michael Walker, Grey's character.
If I ever need to post anything IC aimed at one particular character, I will always head it with @<DumpShock Player Name>.

Nikolai "Dragos" Rozhenko speaks the following languages: Arabic (6), English (8), Romanian (6), Russian (7) specializing in his native Caucasus Dialect (9), and Techno Jargon (11). He's equally as literate in all of them except English which is only (6).

English 6/2
Russian 6/1
German 6/1
Arabic 6/0

Max knows the following languages:
English
Russian
Turkish
Arabic
Azerbaijani (learned specially for this mission)
When everyone has posted his languages, I'll write a post (unless someone else does so before) with all the info everyone gave about their character up to now. That way, we will have a place to refer to with everything we know about the other PCs.
TheOneRonin
Apr 9 2004, 05:36 PM
Gobogen made a good suggestion. From now on, if I need to direct an IC post to a specifc character, I'll put @<Character Name> rather than @<Player Name>
Also, Azeri is the language spoken in Azerbaijan. And you HAVE to have learned it way before this mission because your character doesn't find out where he is going until after the mission starts, and you wont' have time to take language classes.
And thanks for compiling the character info into one post. That should be a great help.

Apr 9 2004, 06:40 PM
Well hum
.. I guess he just learned it because he had to go there before ... or I can just change Azeri for Aramaic if you want
TheOneRonin
Apr 9 2004, 06:48 PM
No that's fine...you can keep Azeri. It's pretty commonly spoken between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. And it always helps to have a couple of people who can speak the native language.

Illian speaks Sperethiel and Enocian fluently, English well, Japase and Arabic enough to get by.
If it's cool with you Ronin, I'd like to shift a point from Japanese to take rudimentary Russian, six months for a guy who's hobby is linguistics, I figure he'd pick some up.

@DH: That's cool...you can have Russian at 2. No problems with that.
@Cardboard: You know, seeing as I never really call for rolls, the skill ratings aren't that important. He has high levels of fluency in languages that are all VERY close to where he grew up, and the TECHNO JARGON of 11 just means that when it comes to schematics and technical journals, he talks WAAAAAY above most peoples heads. In reality, I think he just ran out of places to dump his knowledge skill points.

Hey boss, can you throw the rest of us non-Grey guys a bone and give us a group activity to IC with? Might make it easier for him to drop us the line after he gets back and the plot wouldn't really go anywhere. Might help us all get a feel on one another's characters.
Lime:
You want a jandering, egghead linguist? Tir Tairngire is full of them. You want someone to punch deck, make the Black IC bleed, and make it so the things you need to say to someone across the world are understood only by that person and nobody else because the encryption is so thick that it would take a Cray a whole month of Sundays to cut it? You call Flatline. Ja neh, omae.

Oh, by the way, I guess your OOC English skill isn't that high, or you might have been able to read the GM's post about max skill level being 8.
That aside, let's look on to other things. Should there be an established heirarchy (with Grey at the top, naturally) of rank or are we doing this ad-hoc with weight of opinion being based on whomever's specialty we currently find ourselves dealing with?

By the way, if you get around to getting whatever crawled up your ass and died out of there sometime, try subtracting the +3 bonus skill dice from his Mnemonic Enhancer from all of those languages and see what you come up with. Silly me. When you're done with that, try focusing on playing the game instead of acting like a dick about other people's stats of which you have absolutely no knowledge of whatsoever. Thanks.

Hey, you said it man, not me.
Also, learn English OOC, ASAP. That way you can read the bioware descriptor for Mnemonic Enhancer. It adds a bonus to the test, not to the skill rating itself. Course, you could set this up for infinately regressive debate by saying you just factor in things which are already implied, but the point is still that you have an official rating of eight with a boost to the test of three and if you totally didn't want your chops busted like this then you shouldn't have reacted to a simple question with what you pass off as b-grade witticism.
And that's that. You want some more, you can find me on AIM. BambooMug.

No offense to everyone, but I just wanted to play a game. I'm tired of this dickless wonder acting like this on both the OOC boards and in PMs (I tried talking to him when he started getting his panties in a twist about the coded lingo bit in the previous OOC thread, and yeesh), so I think I'll pass. I prefer to play in a comfortable environment with friends as opposed to with some ass who feels he has to point out his ignorance at every turn. Feel free to NPC Dragos until you can get someone to replace him in the Communications Specialist position; there were a lot of people interested in it anyway.
Again, I apologize. I just have no interest in playing with a "I'm so great, you all suck, and I'm going to critize everything about your character 'cause I'm too cool!" asshole who can't handle a bit of dry humor like Cardboard. Have fun, though.

Ok guys, stop being stupid. I don't know you but you both seem very aggressive about very simple things. I'm sure this situation can change and I hope it's going to happen right now. It's not too late for both of you to calm down a bit and to realize that nothing very bad happened. You just started insulting each other for no good reason, without doubt because you had a tough day that time, or something like that. Everyone makes mistakes, and you made one by overreacting. Now, Cardboard, next time don't insult someone because he didn't seem to understand what was going on: instead, you just want to point out a mistake that someone might have made. And Clockwork, please don't quit .. I mean, there's no need to do that, and try not to insult someone just cause "he started it". Now I don't wanna read anything about fucking languages anymore and you two tell me if you want to stay in the game or not.

I fully intend to stay. Though I must admit I did come on a bit violently on the dead language debate, I truely didn't mean anything when I asked if he thought a rating of eleven on a language was a little high.
However, I have a long-standing policy that if someone decides to get snippy like that, I fight back. I'm sorry, I try not to be combative or confrontational, but I believe the coloquialism is that "if you start shit, you get shit back".
As for Lime leaving, I have no control or opinion over that. I have, however, said my peace on this matter.

Hey guys. Look, I understand that some of you have your differences, and that's life. However, I've worked REALLY hard on putting this game together, and coming up with all the background and story and what not. And all of you put a LOT of work into your characters. I feel that I've got the best team I could possible have for this game, and I don't want to lose anyone. Let's PLEASE try to work together and get along. Sometimes we may have to swallow our pride or not take others seriously. But let's all try to keep things flowing. I really want to see this work.
And please keep any and all sarcastic or "It wasn't my fault..." comments off this board. Thank you.

<sighs> I'm sorry. I tend to get a bit hot under the collar on occassion. I'll try to keep it in check in the future.
Just know that when I say something sarcastic, it's never intended to be mean. I'm exactly the same in the flesh. Ask anyone who talks to me on a regular basis. In any case, I don't wanna let Ronin down so I'll stick around. Again, I apologize.

Hey guys, Grey isn't feeling so well, so the rest of you will probably have to carry the IC thread for the next couple of days. Michael's (Grey's) call is going to come to each of you sometime before 8am on a Friday morning. It's february, and pretty darned cold. You guys will all have about 5 hours to do whatever before you have to meet at Deke's office. You should spend this time introducing the rest of the players to your character's usual routine.

Morning team. I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter R&R, because now it's time to get to work!
@DH: Illian has the green light, just in case you didn't get my return e-mail.
@Shadow: I don't mind one bit. I really like the flavor text. And I'm sure Clock won't mind one bit having you included.
Guys, I want you to realize that YOU play as much a part in telling this story as I do. Please feel free to add flavor whenever you can. If you post something that conflicts with what I have in mind, I'll either A) PM you and ask you to edit it a bit or B) take the ball and run with if your stuff inspires me.
Again, as long as you guys stay in character, it should all work out perfectly. And I will be trying to stay as free-form as possible. If you guys come up with some sort of tangent I hadn't thought of, I'll do my best to merge with with the rest of the game.
This is your story. I'm just the guide.

Keep up the good work with the IC posts. As soon as everyone has put in ther initial IC posts, I'm going to move right towards the mission setup/briefing. Things should get rolling full speed by then. Again, if you guys have any questions, please let me know.
FYI, this isn't a shadowrun, so there's no need to bring any gear to the meeting. You normally have beentween 24 and 72 hours after the mission briefing before you depart, which is plenty of tim to gather up your things. Also, since the meeting is in Deke's office on the 7th floor of the Ares Arms building, it's unlikely security would let you in with your equipment.

It's not a very big deal now before the mission starts, but I'd appreciate it if everyone would head their IC messages with the (in game) time and date. It's not critical now, but it's going to be pretty important later. Also, it helps everyone keep track of time.
And Clockwork mentioned something that makes sense. You guys aren't shadowrunners, so you don't walk around being called by your "street name". Usually callsigns are for missions only. You all know each others names, and most likely refer to one another either by first (typical) or last (hard core military) names. Of course, feel free to invent whatever nicknames you wish for your buddies.
