Full Version: Sideways

If you are genetically infused with Sideways then you cannot feel pain, but does that mean that wound modifiers do not affect the character?
Glyph
From the description: "The character will not suffer any wound penalties until he passes out."
KarmaInferno
It'd be more or less what the old Pain Editor did.

GM keeps track of your wounds secretly, perception test to realize just how badly you're hurt, and you run a real risk of dying because you didn't know how close you were.

Thanks Glyph.

Edit: KarmaInferno if Sideways is similar to a Pain Editor, then would a Sideways-user pass out when his or her stun damage track is full?

Augmentation pg. 93
Psikerlord
thing about pain editors and so forth is that their disadvantage is off set by a simple impanted biomonitor for free action "wound updates". They're a bit too good, really.
Yerameyahu
They've always been too good, yeah. Oh well. smile.gif

AFAIK, you will pass out with a full stun track; I'd have to double-check, but Glyph's quote seems clear on that.
OneTrikPony
The way I read it; it's a full set of rules that's similar but separate from the pain editor.

No wound modifiers.
You do pass out with a full stun track
noticing a wound requires a test with a threshold of 2.
hobgoblin
In a sense, pain editor and similar is basically voluntary leprosy.

This because people suffering from said illness do not have any sense of pain. If they get a cut or similar they do not notice, and so risk infections and similar because it goes untreated. It would not surprise me of a pain editor user would have multiple moments of "hey, your bleeding!" because they never noticed the damage themselves.
Yerameyahu
Really, the biomonitor makes it too easy to detect things like that.
hobgoblin
If one remember to check it (or it throws a fit every time there is a slight change in blood pressure or such, and then your basically back to the technical equivalent of pain).
Stahlseele
Built in Biomonitor.
Built in Display.
Overlay in field of view with general Status report every Minute or so.
Immediate alert if damage is detected.

Why every minute? Why not real time?
Stahlseele
i'd get too distracting otherwise . .
Every Minute a status report of "You are OKAY!" should be enough to not worry.
Of course, when you are out of combat, you would probably switch it off anyway.
Even something that happens only every minute gets VERY anoying after 5 minutes.

Not only did I have a failure to read the relevant rules twice, but apparently I failed to read Glyph's quote well enough. Sigh, my brain likes to gloss when I've read something before I suppose. Thanks Yera.

Given how much AR is like an FPS game, why not have a real-time health bar?

and also overlay a Health Pak image on the mage? wobble.gif
Yerameyahu
It'd be tricky to figure that out in-character, though.

It'd be tricky to figure that out in-character, though.

Use the health meter from Deus Ex, a general body part wound indicator. When the character wants a more detailed report they can just access the biomonitors report.
