Nothing says "I'm Overcompensating" than .700 Nitro Express.

I'm not so sure, elephants and cape buffalo don't always go down fast with even something that size.

I'm pretty sure a .50 BMG, properly aimed, will be more than sufficient for even the largest game.
I say properly aimed because it does help to hit the appropriate vitals dead on, rather than just graze them, as George Orwell notes in his short story Shooting An Elephant: "I did not then know that in shooting an elephant one would shoot to cut an imaginary bar running from ear-hole to ear-hole. I ought, therefore, as the elephant was sideways on, to have aimed straight at his ear-hole, actually I aimed several inches in front of this, thinking the brain would be further forward."
Historically, calibers anywhere from .404 to .600 were used against elephants with regularity, but many of those old rifles used black powder, hence necessitating the larger rounds. These days I'd hazard a guess you could make do firing .300 Winchester rounds, with the proper placement and maybe an extra round or two to make sure.
That said, leave the poor elephants and cape buffalo alone. They're not exactly thriving these days.

The Nitro Express rounds which were infamous for Elephant Rifles made by Holland & Holland used Smokeless Powder. Gun Cotton, IIRC, which is how they got the name.

Canray... guncotton is simply nitrocellulose using cotton as the source of the cellulose.
It's actually a high explosive, and a bit unstable with age, also not suitable for use as a propellant. At least two french battleships blew up when a later development of it got unstable with age and was left in their magazines a little too long.
But you can turn it into smokeless if you do a few steps after creating it. Though again without stabilizing agents I wouldn't want to keep it around too long.
It's actually kind of ironic... using a higher explosive like guncotton to propel a round would be just about the closest thing you could do to the high-power chambering mod in the other thread. And the number of people who don't realize how unusable such a handheld weapon would be in real life outside of putting it on a heavy tripod base like a HMG.

Ah, found it. Nope, it's not gun cotton, but actual Cordite (What's usually used to refer to a lot of modern powders, even if it isn't used as often any longer.). I was thinking of Satchel Charges that were made by the British Military for WWII with Gun Cotton. But Nitro is part of Cordite as well, and *THAT* is how the Nitro Express got it's name. I remember it was due to Nitro being part of the mix when they moved away from Black Powder.
Unless properly stored, Nitro is pretty much always going to be unstable at a certain age. Dynamite sweating is an infamous example, and why we never played with our Uncle's cases of Dynamite back home unless he was around. (I grew up in a mining town, pretty much everyone had an Uncle or something that had a case of dynamite around for prospecting.).

Or that fact that the elephant gun is one of the few weapons with a high enough damage code that it would be likely to penetrate a spirits ItNW, and aside from assault canons, all guns with such a high damage code are longarms.
So restated, longarms lets you use high damage weapons like the elephant gun and Barret (which through sheer Damage value are more likely to penetrate armor), and Shotguns which would allow you to use SnS under said ruling (and we all know why they are good against spirits).
Yes, this is what I meant. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Wait, SnS got moved to Shotgun or large caliber only? when did that happen?

Sarcasm? The big 5 of Africa are doing just fine. As with any critters, once hunting is legal and becomes a money maker the locals usually engage in conservation to make sure hunters will keep coming.
I suspect a similar thing could be done to help the troll population

According to IUCN 3.1...
African Bush Elephant - Vulnerable
African Forest Elephant - Vulnerable
Asian Elephant - Endangered
Cape Buffalo - Least Concern
The Cape Buffalo is arguably doing reasonably well, but all the elephant species are certainly
not thriving, or even "doing just fine". A significant environmental change could send them pretty close to extinction, if not over the brink. What kind of environmental change? Lots of things. Maybe some new disease springs up among the herds. Maybe climate change kills off the kinds of vegetation they eat. Maybe an unrelated prey species goes extinct and drives large predators which normally consider elephants too much trouble to desperately hunt them instead. Whatever.
Putting that aside, though, from your response one would think I plopped down some sort of ultra-reactionary eco-terrorist essay or something, rather than a single, humorously chastizing sentence tacked onto the end of a post dealing with the topic of shooting the critters in question with highpowered (and overly highpowered) ammunition.

Just wait until they Awaken and the hunters become the hunted.

IIRC, Cape Buffalo do that without magical support...

Yeah. An elephant right now, not so hard to hunt (with the right skills and equipment).
An elephant NINJA ADEPT, OTOH? Not so much.

14 dice to attack, DV of 15P, AP -3, and electricity halves armor ...?

Yeah. You go be the Great White Hunter. Knock yourself out. I'm staying RIGHT HERE, as in "not on that whole freakin' continent", where it's at least marginally safer. ;D ;D ;D
