Full Version: Camera neutralizers and burners

I'm creating this thread to avoid derailing the cybereyes thread.

Camera neutralizers (Arsenal) and burners (spy games) are capable of temporarily or permanently disabling cameras they encounter, including microcameras and drone sensors. This makes me think: what other cameras might get hit by these devices?

These are some of the targets that are... interesting.
1) Cybereyes. The potential damage caused by flashing the most common cyberware in the world might be anything from someone having to blink and rub their eyes (the horror!), permanent blindness, car accidents, or anything else that suddenly going blind in public might cause. Oh, and irrisponsable use of a camera burner in a public place can quickly be very expensive.
2) Smartguns. Obviously, your enemy taking out your smartgun camera in the middle of a fight is at best annoying. However, as I'm yet to see any form of IFF system mentioned with these devices the odds are that your friend's camera burner is to blame for your smartgun going blind. Oops.
3) Contact lenses and glasses with built in cameras. A blast of light strong enough to take out a high end camera is not really something you want to have shooting at your eyes...

I have a hard time seeing that they SHOULD affect cybereyes as they are:

A: Paid with Essence
B: Implanted INSIDE your body.
C: The amounts of lawsuits against corps for rendering peoples legal cyberware destroyed.
D: Secondary damages for becoming blind when:
-D1: Driving a fast moving vehicle
-D2: Handling hazardous material
-D3: Visiting a potential business partner...THAT BLINDS YOU

Now, obvious and concealed actual cameras like:
-Security Cameras
-Spy Cameras
-Drone Cameras
-Smartgun Cameras
-Hand held/External camera sensors
-Worn Goggles
-Contact Lenses [I have a hard time with putting them here as I cant see a camera inside a LENS]

They are most likely affected and probably what the rules INTEND for them to affect.

Otherwise my runner will start running around with such things against any and all opposition and flash them the first round of combat. Think about it.
-Cyberzombies
-Hackers
-Streetsams
-Cybered Adepts/Mages

Come one, almost EVERYONE has cybereyes that isn't a mage since the tech is so damn cheap unless they are technophobe luddites.

Used cybereyes is 250Y and 0,24 essence.

For 0,24 essence i can get cool glowing eyes with Pervert-O-Vision with recording ability and an image link so I can surf porn without anyone seeing. grinbig.gif

AND THEN SOMEONE FLASHES ME BLIND BECAUSE I VISITED THEIR COMPANY??? wacko.gif

Since it mentions eratically moving cameras, cybereyes and guncams are not affected, probably, unless they are stationary.

Hmm, but what constitutes an "eratically" moving camera? Drone cameras can be damn purposeful and still if they have to - not to mention INVISIBLE with ruhenium coating.

The entire tech seems damn far fetched unless you have someone aiming the device at a camera.

Not to mention a two way mirror cover in front of the camera - how will it even DETECT that a camera exist if you can cover it up.

My take:

The camera neutralizer (Arsenal) doesn't know or care if your paid essence for those cybereyes. If it detects a CCD device, it aims and shoots. The only way to protect your CCDs whether they be cybereyes, drone cameras, smartguns, goggles, steadycams, or your comlink camera, would be to conceal them behind a one-way filter (Mirror shades and visisbility mods for the win!).

Moving the camera erattically helps a little, as the system has to constantly redetect it. This tactic is obviously of more use against low-rated systems.

I wonder how many cameras a system can blind at once?

If a Johnson takes out some device that shoots me in the eyes, you can bet your ass that I'm going to shoot him right back.

That is why a Johnson who has needs to shoot your eyes into an off position would pick a meeting spot with flashing lights, like a club, and hide the burner among the lights with it programmed to pay attention to him an an area around him alone.

Well, the system is rather limited if we look at neutralizers:

QUOTE
This system uses infrared lasers and
photo-detecting transistors to scan an area for the reflectivity
and shape of the image-producing sensors used in digital cameras
.

Cybereyes work differently from cameras

QUOTE
Eye Recording Unit: The eye recording unit connects
to the user’s optical nerves and records all data directly into
attached storage
(accessible by the user’s PAN). To prevent
data theft, the user can opt to make this storage only accessible
by special means (sim module, datajack, etc.).

This means that such tech is extremely limited as you CANNOT stop people from seeing and recording things unless you simply HIDE things.
Dolanar
By that reading it wouldn't work on any of the cameras built into equipment such as goggles or contact lenses as most of the reflectivity is either from glasses or contacts which means anyone wearing contacts period would be blinded camera or no, & the same would go for glasses goggles.

I reckon you'd need to use anti surveillance

Exactly, The Jopp. I mentioned simrig earlier, but it's the same thing.
