Great .pdf CanRay!

I especially liked the part about sararimen slotting personafix chips to ace a job inteview and then doubting their own skills even more. I am crazy about this SR day to day life stuff. And that for less than half of a movie ticket, nice!

pretty please can anybody let me in on the sheep joke? Whats the story with the sheep? OMG I am sounding like dev/grrl here ohplease.gif

CanRay
I'll say this much: It's not a joke.
bannockburn
Having researched a lot of sheep related things in the last few months, I can firmly assure you, that you probably do not want to know!
Angelone
Truly, sheep are serious business.

I honestly did not think that the sheep thing would be so difficult to guess.

I'll have to be less subtle next time. nyahnyah.gif

So, I picked Sims Dream up today off Battleshops using the super secret Origins13 code. (And Eurowar Antiques).

I definitely like the fluff. And since one of the demo characters I'm using next week when my home group starts up is troll ganger who goes by Juicer, I hope to make some use of the crunch while I'm at it.

I also do not get the sheep reference. The only sheep that makes me think of cyberpunk is "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". Which doesn't seem to have any connection to someone injuring/killing or whatever Turbo Bunny did to it that she has to pay for the sheep.

There's the Monty Python bit on Flying Sheep. Again, doesn't seem to fit T.B.'s issue.

And there was this one time in college we drunkening decided to go to a live nude booths & sex toy shop which had small inflatible sheep (rams and ewes), and I still haven't managed to find enough mind bleach for when one of the guys noticed the sheep had holes in the back and stuck his finger to see if the hole was deep. I thought a whole bottle of Jaegermeister would flush that away, but it turns out no. Also doesn't fit T.B.'s problem, but I just don't want to suffer that mental image alone. Over sharing perhaps? Maybe, but at least it's not another Scotsman joke.

Seriously, I bought the pdf. Can I get some kind of hint as to the sheep and its nefarious fate? Did she plow through a petting zoo in car?

Also, it's been years since I've read 2XS. I may have to trek into the attic and dig thorugh boxes of old paperbacks and find it to read again. Really cool to see that character come up again.

I enjoyed the read and am looking forward to your next project Canray.

Cordially,

Eric
CanRay
Thanks Eric. I thought folks would like the touch with the past to 2XS. smile.gif Congrats on getting it via Origins!

The Sheep is Physical (in-universe) and more Metaphysical (IRL) and is something that I hope the people at large can guess. Remember, it's supposed to be a lesson. And this time, I'm going full Socratic/Coyote Method, and everything that you need to answer the question has been given.

Now, think. smile.gif

I'm sticking by my statement of the sheep being our loss of innocence as we grow up and sell out. Or taxes, does the sheep represent taxes?

The statement you were sticking with is closer than anyone has guessed yet.

Still far off, but closer than anyone else. Take your bragging rights where you can.

First off, I just finished Sim Dreams. Good Job CanRay.
For myself I loved the bit with Dirk, it was nice to see the old man again.

You were asking for criticism earlier, here it is.

Neuromancer and Shadowrun cross fiction isn't something I wanted to find in the book. I don't know if that was Turbo Bunny tripping on beetles while mixing literature and reality or if that post implies Molly actually exists in SR but it was definitely jarring and took away from the shadow talk.

With that gripe out of the way. I loved it. Sim Dreams was the first PDF product I felt compelled to pickup and it made me snag Safehouses as well. I may loath Ecotope and Butch but Turbo came through clean and Safehouses sold me on /dev/grrl. Especially that image at the end, whoever drew that deserves a beer.

Now onto the stuff that really matters, the fraggin' Sheep.

I don't believe Turbo did anything "Untoward" with the Sheep.... Strike that I really, really hope she did not take a trip chip that felt like a sheep even despite her lacking the appropriate member.

My take on it is this, Ecotope's a Shaman and an environmentalist radical. In short he's a Hippy Terrorist with an MO of attacking livestock facilities. I'll wager he may even have a Sheep mentor spirit. (That would make my fraggin' day.)

I'll leave the money on this. Everyone's favourite Elven rigger just happened to ram the Sheep due to indulging in one of those trip chips she likes. Naturally our bleeding heart shaman was attempting to rescue or acquire the damn thing for his mates over at the NDM (New Druidic Movement).

I bet Turbo ate well that night.
CanRay
Sorry Grak, no. But that's a good assessment of what might have been considering the characters.

Fair enough. You won't tell us unless /dev/ cracks it so I really hope you write the Runs Gone Bad supplement. It would be great.

Actually, /dev won't get it until one of you gets it and posts it for all to see.

Did Bunny dream of electric sheep?
PittsburghRPGA
I've pondered your clues, and decided I do not care for this teaching method of answering students questions with another question. I'm old and grouchy that way. When people do that, it just feels like they're being snarky and condescending with me, even though, after reading about that method on wikipedia, you clearly do not have that intention.

However, I think the answer has been staring at me and I didn't realize it because it seemed too obvious. The sheep was a wageslave or some other Joe Six Pack average dude. A sheeple walking through life in a corp controlled fog who got in the way of the runners in some way. Perhaps even a group of them because the plural of sheep is still sheep.

I'm unsure as to what precisely Turbo Bunny did to the sheep. Ran him over, slotted Slade the Sniper & shot him/her/them, or what. Perhaps she slotted Grand Theft Auto 2074 and thought she was doing a mission where she ran over pedestrians for an in-game achievement badge.

Coyote/Socratic Method! Gotta love to hate it!

Nope. Sheep was a sheep. You're close to what the metalesson is supposed to be about, however.

Purchased this today. Got my moneys worth. I like these little supplements.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the Personafix stretch. I thought it was a copy of the moddy technology from Effinger's When Gravity Fails book at first. I see why skillsofts were extended that direction though. No game mechanics at all?

The addiction stuff. Ugh. No thanks. I laughed out loud when I saw skillwires are just slightly less addictive than BTLs.

Soycaf literally being a gateway drug for stuff like Bliss and Betameth was also amusing.

The sheep joke got stupid. Fast.
Angelone
The sheep vs. Turbo Bunny.
CanRay
The Sheep is a lesson as well as a joke. Also, the sheep didn't get to attack Turbo Bunny. But, if it did, yeah, it would have been like that.

Due to NDAs, the best thing I can say at this point without violating it would be "Fluff is editionless", and most of the book is fluff. Will the Crunch be useful with SR5, I literally, legally, cannot say "Yes" or "No" or "Maybe" to. Can. Not. Say.

"Rabid Attack Lawyers have my scent"-level of cannot say, OK?

So, about those Seadogs...

Now that SR 5th Edition is out, can you now say how rules compatible it is?

So, this weekend, I got to run an Intro to the Sixth World, and play in SRM5-01.

And in homage, T3H 5H33P! was born. A human decker represented in VR by a bouncy little ram.

*scratches his head*

Not really good at puzzles, more of the Alexander/Gordian Knot solution sort of guy which does not help much in this one I suspect.

I am going to guess The Sheep was the cargo/prize. Maybe a biological breakthrough, an ex of Ecotope , a political prisoner to the evil farming regime or maybe just got ran over by TB while she was tripping.

But what it actually was doesn't matter, but rather what it represented.

What matters was TB lost her eye on the prize, the Simsense AR triggered her addictions, so she zoned out on the tripchip. Maybe she needed to be somewhere but wasn't or crashed the ride into The Sheep, but in any case due to being under the influence and not being focused the run was lost with the resultant fallout thereof. Her team was counting on her and she was not focusing on the task at hand, or at least not fully capable of the task.

/dev/grrl lost her eye on the prize, ironically by focusing on the sheep itself and was likewise distracted. Fastjack let her run with it to see if she could let go of the sheep and move on.

Whether it's Simsense or shiny things laying out on the street or just bizarre things happening during the run, you always keep your eye on the prize/target/goal and just let the other stuff go or bad things can happen.

Exceptionally well thought out, and deduced. Wrong still, but a lot closer than most folks have gotten! Congratulations!

In-Joke, yes. But the joke is from the Official and Dumpshock's forums, so thus is an appropriate question.

And this is why I hate Socratic method. What is the Sheep, but don't try to figure out the Sheep. nyahnyah.gif

I suppose In Game the truth is The Sheep shouldn't matter to /dev/grrl and she should let it go.

The Sheep that can be explained is not The Sheep. nyahnyah.gif

She may want to know but she doesn't need to know. It was only relevant to TB, Eco and whoever else was involved in the run. Asking questions that don't concern you may or may not be healthy as Bull pointed out.

I guess there is a correlation in this to all of the Wireless debate in the forums. We can endlessly go round and round about how all the wireless devices works or are supposed to work, but honestly only the actual devs themselves would know and their reasons/logic for same, no matter how silly or serious it may look to us. They are abstract rules trying to shoehorn a concept into a playable system.

So we can either A) use it as is B) turn it off altogether or C) just go houserule it ourselves to be what we want it to be for our own game.

Trying to come up with all the reasons as to why it all is as it is will just lead to more circular arguing and headaches.

Don't Sweat the Small Sheep. wink.gif

Frag it, now I am overthinking it and getting a headache. nyahnyah.gif
