QUOTE (Beta @ Apr 26 2023, 05:49 AM) *
Arcana, as an active skill, not permit default rolls per 5e CRB. Since Arcana was moved to a knowledge skill in our house rules and Jack implied that a roll was possible, I rolled logic - 1 as a default roll (Tamarind has Magical Theory knowledge, but not arcana). If that is incorrect let me know and I'll edit the IC post.

She is calling her "Crashcart Medicart" drone (R5 page 142 in English), which may well be able to break into the building, depending on just how solid the doors are (but may not, they don't give mechanics to what it can break through, just saying "The rescue tools can cut through most materials" Of course the spirit could crush it as easily as it could a Kanmushi, but she is hoping that it will not pay attention to something with no aura that is not directly attacking.

wrong thread.

Hulloh!

Firstly, sorry for not responding for this extended time. Work should get easier quite soon.
Secondly, Gilga, I have a request. Do you think you could try and describe things a little more in detail? Many times, I find it quite difficult to grasp the situation in its entirety without asking a lot of questions, from which I usually refrain as it slows down the games. For example, I can't really visualize where the drones are, where the port is, where we are, what possibilities there would be to reach it. All I know is that I can't just grab it. But is Nova's cover sufficient? What if I "cast a spell" to make it crawl upwards? Would it be more or less suspicious? Are there any other wires I could attack easier? Is there anything with which I can distract the drones?
When I have a rich environment with many details, I can do Sprinklers. But if I only see "There are four drones", I can hardly think of anything else than "Shoot 'em", as no other options present themselves.
Thanee
Do I need to roll anything to "cover"? Con? Sneaking?

Thanee
Okay, if that scanner is above the door, Nova cannot really stand in the way, obviously. I had that visualized quite differently.

I guess, those are such details that Volker mentioned above. biggrin.gif

Hi, I think it is time for initiative.

You are currently at -4 situational penalty due to the situation in the sim. Feel free to act on each reality. You experience both at the same time.

Thanee
Initiative 20 (or 16, in case you meant -4 on initiative)

Bye
Thanee
Volker
I forgot to apply the -4 penalty. So, if it is an initiative penalty, it's reduced to 23. If it's a dicepool penalty, I don't have fewer scores (the last four are only ones, twos, and threes).
Gilga
Thanee: Sorry for not being very explicit; part of the protocol to storm a room is to close the door after you toss a grenade in. I'll let it pass with an edge roll and a successful throw.

Initiative soldiers:
Initiative: 4#10+2d6 14 21 16 22

Since they act in unison, they all act together:

Initiative phase 1: Nova/James - fire at surprised guard, he is down.
- 2 guards toss grenades in,
- one guard closes the door right after for maximum effect.
- the fourth guard drags the fifth guard away from the door and applies essential first aid treatment.

So effectively, you are directly against 3 guards.

You need to resist: two 10S -4 grenades - (likely more due to chunky salsa rules, but they seem too extreme//complex to me.).
Thanee
Not throwing a grenade through a closing door. biggrin.gif

I would rather just shoot them through the wall.

What kind of door / walls are we talking here?

In which direction does the door open?

Could we just kick it in?

Bye
Thanee
Gilga
The door opens to the inside (like all the entries I can think about that are not heavy security doors). About shooting through the wall, it is a solid wall possible perhaps (I'll need to look up the exacts details). There is a guy physically holding the door to contain the grenades inside the apartment. You can shoot through the door more reliably, and you have a better idea of where he is exactly.
Thanee
Okay, looking at "Shooting through Barriers".

-6 to the attack roll for "blind fire". No defense, since he cannot see anything.

First you attack the barrier (structure and armor), and it soaks the damage down with its structure rating, any remaining damage passes through to the target.

If this is like "average material" or "heavy material" (if that much), it should be okay to try.

"average material" would be "furniture, plastiboard, ballistic glass"
"heavy material" would be "tree, hardwood, dataterm, light post, chain link"
"reinforced material" would be "densiplast, security door, armored glass, kevlar wallboard"

Bye
Thanee
Gilga
Lets use heavy material for the door and reinforced material for the wall.
Thanee
Ok. Updated my last post. 11P AP -8 left for the guard.

Gilga
Lets do the first phase and move to the second. I still need damage resistance for the tween grenades and or 2nd action for bnc/james if bnc shrugs off the damage.
Thanee
Do they explode already? Normal grenades explode one combat turn later.

Also, what is the damage? Normal flash-bang, i.e. 10S AP -4?

Bye
Thanee
Gilga
Yes, I think I'll read about Grenades again. Up until now, we played with them just like normal attacks - aside from that, you could choose to 'run for your life' to make an interrupt move action to get out of the way. It seems strange if they explode a round later isn't it so?

Anyhow I assumed they were normal AoE attacks, and it seemed like a smart thing to do for the corp-sec.
Thanee
Well, that is how grenades work IRL, too. They have a timer and go off after a few seconds. The problem is, that so much happens in that time in SR. biggrin.gif

I think, you can also ignite them with a wireless command. That would probably work like you intended. smile.gif

Anyways...

Damage Resistance 12 hits (no damage)
Damage Resistance 9 hits (1S damage)

Thanee
Gilga
Nova is one tough bitch.
Let's see how Fox is doing.
resist damage: 2#10d6t5 4 4
12 stun and is out cold.

I suspect that bnc might experience a similar fate which is why I take it a bit slow and wait for Volker to respond - and perhaps play James on autopilot. James is immune to stun I think as a drone.

Thanee
Yeah, James is immune. bnc might need some Edge to stay conscious.

Volker
Damn, sorry. RL is so distracting ^^

Before I decide how to act - is there any possibility we can escape through, say, windows? Or are we underground in RL, too? I forgot.
Thanee
Yes, we are far underground. IIRC, the lift took us down minutes, so likely a kilometer or so underground.

AFAIK, the room is surrounded by glass walls (which seems to be heavily armored security glass), but Fox had them tinted for privacy when we got there, so I don't think there are any "windows".

Damage for flash-bang grenades is 10S AP -4 (two times, as there are two grenades). Cannot tell you what the cover will offer.

Bye
Thanee
Gilga
I sort of expected James to dive on one of the grenades because he is immune to stun damage. Diving on bnc is fine as well, you can use Jame's body + armor as bonus dice to soak the damage.
Volker
I didn't assume that both grenades would land exactly at the same place, so James would naturally not been able to dive on both. Besides ... that's not how a decker would react in reflex.

Okay, so soak is
2 Body
12 Armor jacket
4 James' Body
6 2x Armor 3 plating
13 James' Sleeping Tiger
Soak: 2#37d6t5 11 13
-4 dice for AP reduce the hits by -0 / -1 to 11 / 12, ==> no damage.

Thanee
Does the door open?

Bye
Thanee
Gilga
ofc, think about a datacenter. They need to ship equipment in and out. So lets say even a double door.
Thanee
Just asking, since you might have missed that part in my last post (bottom part). smile.gif

Gilga
They likely retreated and are no longer in sight ( so many rooms and so forth it does not imply they got far.) You can look for them if you wish. (but once you start talking/asking directions, I assume you are no longer on combat time). They would not answer Nova; either they can't hear her, or they want to stay hidden. Nobody is obstructing you right now - I know that many SR enemies tend to fight to the death, but I imagine most military units to be disabled by losing half their people. So I try to play them accordingly.
Thanee
Ah, okay. I didn't see anything, so wasn't sure about the situation.

And, I totally agree, people are still people and self-preservation is a top priority. wink.gif

We still need to hurry a bit, I suppose.

Playing online it is difficult to say whether NPCs ignore questions on purpose or they just slip your attention because of playing by post. Please be so kind and give us a hint if an NPC is skipping our questions. Thanks!
