Engulf would solve that issue - but in the end it's no real problem to do it like you proposed
Thanee
Can air spirits even do that? wink.gif

Technically, they only got their powers.

Bye
Thanee
Jack_Spade
It's a standard power of Air Spirits
Thanee
Sorry, I meant what was written in the IC (disperse the smoke). I know they got Engulf. biggrin.gif

Beta
sorry about a few days of silence there. Had various things hitting all at once and lost track of how many days I'd not caught up with the game.

We seem to be going ahead with burying the burned body, rather than torching the car they came in? (I can amend my IC if we want). I rather like that 'drive into the land mines' option, especially if we leave an extra grenade in there and have it go off too (and any flammables we have left that we can load in there, to help make sure that things burn, to justify the state of the body).

And ... yes, Tamarind is still on about that dongle. It is exactly what she wants, but with availability and cost that makes it hard for her to get any time soon. She can be talked out of this, or just told that the mages won't help make it happen, but she won't just forget about it.

And finally, as a player I'm all for investigating the farm. Not in what they were hired for, but a) much loot sitting there without an owner to complain about going missing, and b) that leyline is a bit terrifying, and we have the magical firepower to deal with it as well as anyone else could. It is just the matter of getting in and out without bringing down the border patrol or starting an international incident. (and of dealing with whatever horrors are at the end of the ley line ....). Tamarind might be less eager? But I'm putting this out to an OOC discussion if we want to find IC reasons to investigate the farm more.
Thanee
Happy to help. smile.gif

But, I don't think we want to gain the attention of the spirits, as magical backup can be there pretty much instantly on the astral side.

This needs to be done undetected.

Thanee
Do you want to do something about that farm right now?

Because, otherwise I see no reason not to fly back to Seattle with Tien III. wink.gif

With all the gardening hobbies, managing a farm may be fun, but I am not sure that it is practical with Arione buried there and a dangerous ley line in our backyard. AM would likely go for it because she'd prefer a desolate farm over suburbia.
Tecumseh
Are AM or Tamarind capable of finding out who owns the vehicle that Victoria/Tien/Phillip were driving. (Still not sure what kind of vehicle it is now that the masking spells have been dropped.)

Can we see if it's stolen, or if Tien purchased it legally?
Jack_Spade
It's a pretty beaten up Chrysler-Nissan Journey (Stolen Souls p.197) retail worth 17k
Tecumseh
Well 17K new. If it's pretty beat up then half of that or less, and then only a fraction of that fenced. I don't imagine it will be worth more than a grand at most, maybe two if the dice are in favor.
Tecumseh
I'm looking at the fencing rules on p. 418 and they definitely aren't fast:

"This is a time-consuming process that
takes an Extended Etiquette + Charisma [Social] Test
with a threshold of 10 and an interval equal to the delivery
time on the Delivery Times Table."

That interval could be anywhere from 1 day to 1 week, depending on the value of the car.

I'll roll and let Jack decide what to do with the results. I'll pre-roll Edge.

Charisma 5 + Etiquette 3 + Edge 6: 14d6t5 8 hits

Well, uh, that's a good start. I still don't know how to get Orokos to reroll 6s. I have six of them so I'll do it manually.

Exploding 6s: 6d6t5 2 hits, both sixes

Exploding 6s, round two: 2d6t5 0 hits

So 10 hits total, all kept since pre-rolling the Edge removes the Limit (which would have been 5).

Replace the 't' with 'h'
Tecumseh
It works, thanks. We'll see if I remember that ___ months in the future when I need to pre-roll Edge again!

As you all might have noticed, we are at the end of the chapter

Currently, we have 460+ posts, so 46 karma (double for the new characters)

You gain new contacts:

Bobby Ray - weapons dealer in Texas: C 5 / L 1
Gladius - ex firewatch psionic mercenary C 4 / L 2
Xavier Tien III - well connected rich man C 7 / L 2

Knowledge Karma 10
Possible skills and specialities

Area: Texas
Awakened Threats: Shedim
Awakened Threats: Astral Rifts
Business: Agriculture
Beta
Thanks Jack!

I forgot to spend knowledge karma after the interlude, so Tamarind will have a major knowledges upgrade coming.

@Gilga Not stealing the RCC was just a matter of not stirring up more trouble. The only way out of the compound that didn't risk stirring up border security was the drainage pipe, and I don't think the RCC fits through there (wasn't the pipe around 10 cm diameter?). And even if it technically could, the only thing she has that would fit through there are are Kanmushis and Flying Eyes, which don't have a lot of pulling strength. Maybe she could have fed through a wire and used that to feed something stronger, and then drag the RCC, but that much activity seemed more likely to draw attention. And we had completed our contract cleanly, she didn't want to delay everyone much and risk complications for that.

Don't get me wrong, there is incredible loot in terms of drones in there that I'd have loved to also plunder, but how much to push things out of simple greed?
Jack_Spade
It might be worth an interlude wink.gif

And the pipe was 30 cm wide - large enough for an animal form mage to fit through and an astral projecting mage to follow.

Btw: I'll be on holiday for the next 11 days (visiting South England), though I should be able to check in here in the evenings when I'm in my hotel.
Thanee
Have a nice trip! Hope the weather is not too bad. wink.gif

That sounds like a great trip!

What's Jack's suggestion for an Interlude? Retrieving the RCC via the drainage pipe? I mean we could... I could GM it if Jack if traveling for a week and a half since that might make posting as Bobby difficult.

Did anyone keep records of what we were getting paid, what the bonus was, and what we spent at Bobby Ray's? If not I'll go back and review, but I wanted to see if anyone has it readily available.

Do we know how we're dividing up the foci or do we need to hash that out?

Jack_Spade
You can add the foci in value to the loot pile - or just give them to your mages. The dongle and the RCC were obviously meant to help out Tamarind. (Actually that element was what gave me the idea to pick up that storyline)

But it's only fair if Mato gets more money in turn (and may want to use the goodwill of Tien to get some higher grade/availability ware)

The final sum plus bonus was somewhere on the first three pages

In total you receive 200k
Gilga
@Beta I was under the impression it fits through the pipe and we can just take it. Did not visualize it as such a project, though Trouble does have magic fingers and a realistic cat form.wink.gif

PS: Jack did we get to keep the reagents?

I did forget about Trouble, thinking about it mostly from a tech point of view. But mostly I'd mis-remembered the size of the pipe.

But still, our wealthy employer, and ride home, was right there. It didn't feel right to put too much focus on plundering. An interlude to go back could be interesting? Mato flies home with the gear, and recruits Bobby to go down and help get people in and out?
Tecumseh
It sounds like wheels up on the plane in 8 hours, which should be more than enough time to address the RCC. I don't think we need to do a back-and-forth.

Mato is conveniently off-screen while selling the Journey. Bobby is off-screen doing Bobby things while Jack is traveling.

Is that something folks are interested in, or would you prefer a more traditional slice-of-life Interlude?
Gilga
I'd prefer a piece of life at the new hood rather than a tactical play to remove the RCC. I kind of like how much depth the interludes add to this game.

--- edit
That said, AM would really not mind stealing the RCC but I am not sure how easy it is to do the ownership transfer. I don't remember the details and I know it is possible with the right character build but I'd figure it out before stealing the RCC.
On second thought, I start to understand why it can be an interlude.
Jack_Spade
I've arrived successfully in London smile.gif

I don't see a reason why we can't have two interludes wink.gif

Was going to say that, too. Part I "San Angelo" and Part II "Seattle". biggrin.gif

PS: Jack did we get to keep the reagents?

The other question is... can we even use some of them (i.e. are they "generic" or based on a certain tradition).

V's stuff was listed in the IC:

QUOTE
Two spell sustaining foci - Manipulation and Health - as well as a centering focus and a power focus, all of them F6.

Jack_Spade
Yes, I don't believe every tradition has unique reagents, but preferences which ones they work with. (Hermetics like stuff they can store in powder form, while shamans prefer unprocessed stuff)

Especially refined and radical reagents have to be tradition agnostic, as they are pure alchemy products.
Tecumseh
This is from p. 316, emphasis added:

"Reagents are surprisingly common, but not all reagents
can be used by every tradition. The cube of cinnabar that
the hermetic magician values is useless to a shaman, just
as the shaman’s bundle of feathers is of little interest to the
magician. Generally speaking, the reagents from one tradition
only work at half strength to magicians of other traditions.

This makes trading in reagents a tricky proposition to
anyone not versed in the fine art of talismongering."

I'm debating whether to spin up an Interlude for San Angelo or if we should just continue Chapter 10 since this is a direct continuation. Mostly this is because we have it synchronized so that Interlude 10 follows Chapter 10, and I like the symmetry of it. If we do two Interludes it will throw the numbering off.

Let's just keep the current thread running then - easiest solution wink.gif

I can keep GMing for a little while longer thanks to stable internet connection

There are threads for the (first) interlude, already. smile.gif
