Just because he's a mental incompetant doesn't mean he's not a competant runner. This stuff is definitely his weak suit.
Sedryk, I'm assuming you specialize in wetwork, though Skeeter wouldn't immediately make the association.

um, actually it does. Shadowrun isn't something you can be a savant at. It isn't one thing. You can be really perceptive, or really good with a gun as a savant. You won't be both. It's your character play him however you like. But he is an incompetent, and if Shadowrun were real (haha) he would never survive the shadows. Good thing it's not real eh?

Hellcow knows both a Dealer and a Fixer. The dealer is much more reliable for a number of reasons, but can take longer to acquire gear. My Fixer is Fredrick.

I wrote out a really long, scathing response. Then I deleted it.
Your idea of shadowrun and/or reality evidently differ from mine. I asked about backing off on the character and only got one response encouraging me to go on. I won't comment much past noting your "beautiful, elven female gunslinger" and asking if she is bisexual?
Some people have pointed out the benefits of having him along. I'm sure he was helpful in the same way on previous runs.
Why your character would want to be on the same boat with him is beyond me. But you jumped on board after he had been invited along.
I've got to stop or it will wind up like the response I deleted.

Prepping the call for gear now IC. I'll probably go through the IC thread and make the complete shopping list tommorow morning/afternoon, to give everyone a chance to say exactly what they need. So I suggest checking the suggested survival gear list, and post IC what you still need. If that's ok. I'll then total the cash needed, see what we can't afford both

and time-wise, and make the check(s).
- Survival Kit (see above for what it contains)
- Survival Tent (camouflaged)
- Thermal Sleeping Bag
- Climbing Harness & Gear
- Load-Bearing Harness with four Small Equipment Pouches and Two Large Equipment Pouches
- Nav-Dat GPS (just to compensate in case the cyberware gets damaged; they're cheap, and they can do more than the implants anyway)
- Ordinary Clothing (camouflaged) with Insulation 2 OR Camo armored fatigues
- Standard Toolkit (mining)
- Flashlights (low-light and standard) (IR?)
- Backpacks for bigger stuff and carrying samples out, or are the large equipment pouches adequate?
- Snow gear: ice axes, cleats, snow goggles, snow shoes, skis
- Medkit with extra supplies
- Various slap patches
- Freeze foam - Instant barrier around tents, should provide thermal insulation. Broken bones, restraints, etc..
- Freeze Foam Solvent
- Radio with Encryption

Don't know if it's come up IC, but Skeeter's an ork, so some "mental defects" are to be expected. In any case, he's not really said or done anything particularly bad (if someone were reading their mind, there'd be trouble, though).
That said... how many troll/ork melee characters have you seen that were too terribly bright? After that last one I played with, whose first response to every problem was to punch someone in the head, I'd take Skeeter any day. At least he's managable.

Well, there's a difference between being a bit oblivious or below average intelligence (of which an Intelligence of 4 certainly isn't) and being mentally retarded. The latter of which comes across in the body language "Skeeter" describes if not his words alone. Saying that he had to rely on someone else to basically dress him only adds to that.
Unfortunately, runners don't get the luxury of choosing who they work with anymore than a Johnson gets to choose which runners he ends up with. That's why any fixer who'd hook a Johnson or his other runners up with a mental incompetent would have his reputation as a fixer shot in no time. It's not like more competent muscle is hard to find in the shadows as described in the setting; they're a dime a dozen. It's the primary reason that after this run, my character is most likely going to stop using Frederick for finding work and instead hunt down another fixer.
Because when it comes down to it and your life is going to be in the care of those you're working with, I certainly wouldn't put my life in the hands of a mentally retarded person -- and being an ork is no excuse.
The reason I never really said anything OOC is because it's not my place to decide who a GM lets into a game or how another player plays his character. So it's just something one has to deal with if they want to play for the sake of enjoying the game. Of course the fact that he basically insulted me, as a person, early in this OOC thread didn't exactly warm him up to me, either.

Anyway, here's the list of the only items
Belfast needs. They're all legal, so it should be easy to just drop by any sporting goods store and pick them up within an hour or so at the most. Don't know why we'd go through a fixer for most of these items anyway, especially with the Street Index of some of them.
- Canteen & Mess Kit (15¥, SI 1, Legal)
- Respirator (500¥, SI 2, Legal)
- Sleeping Bag (175¥, SI 1, Legal)
- Some fookin' Rope (50 m) (125¥, SI 1, Legal)
- Survival Kit (100¥, SI 1, Legal)
What can I say, I like to travel light.

Also, just to let you guys know, I only have a rating 2 Transciever with no encryption, and I don't have the cash (even with this 2,200¥) to afford an upgrade to that (it would cost 2,000¥ alone to do it with a waiting time of up to two days). Considering the flux of it and the nature of our mission, I don't see why we need heavy encryption or long range communications, though, so that really should be enough. But if you guys insist on it, the best I can do is Rating 2/Encryption 1 since I have to pay for the other items above and they're a bigger priority. But considering Encryption 1 is about as useful as Encryption 0, it'd just be a waste of money. Just let me know either way.
In any case, if only the items above are good enough, I'll hook
Hellcow up with my 915¥ or hitch a ride with someone and snag it at a sporting goods shop myself if he's too busy.

Okay. The conversation about Skeeter is ending about... now. Tisoz, tone down Skeeter's shortcomings a little, please. Everyone else, take a few minutes to calm down. Okay? Good.
Fredrick had his own reason for setting the kid up on the run. He figured that with it being a wilderness type run (which he did hint to everyone, with the bug spray comment) that the kid couldn't cause much trouble and he was doing a big favor for someone else. He may well have been wrong or he might have been right. Given that what's coming up is really a vast unknown, a stupid kid who's got magical stealth and clubbing skills might come in really handy.
That said, if the kid becomes a liability, your characters should do what they feel is best in that situation. I'm not going to dictate the way characters should be played specificly save to request that if there's behavior going on that really galls one or more persons, I'd like to see it toned down.
I expect this to be the end of the matter, for now, at least. Further comments can be directed to me via PM or email (yes, I've cleaned out the PM box a bit). Let's try to make sure that everyone has fun here. That's the whole point of the game, after all.

Your character's intelligence isn't the main issue with me. It's the attitude you've had towards my character. Why? Since your initial post, and the 6 pages that followed, you have insulted and slandered my character with every single post you write.
Now normally I would just deal with it IC. But I can't. Because your character hasn't said anything aloud. So if I want to avoid meta-gaming I have to smile IC and pretend it didn’t happen.
You don't like her, fine. You don't want to work with her, Fine. Have some gut’s and have your characters say it out loud.
Why do you have to passive aggressive about it? Why do it at all? It isn't relevant to the game, the only purpose it could possibly serve would be to piss me off. Congratulations you have succeeded. Throw your self a parade, you made me mad. So there you go, that’s what I believe the real issue is. As far as I am concerned it’s off my back.
Respond however you like, but I think the best thing to do for the game would be for both of us to let the issue drop. I have seen to many games dissolve into useless OOC brawling and I don’t want that to happen for TKG’s game.
So for Raven, if you think she’s your typical lesbian/elf.gun slinger I guess my role playing skills aren’t up to snuff.
Raven is not bi-sexual, she’s not really into men or women (Not that I feel sex has any business being in a role playing game).
She is driven. She is a failed athlete who is looking for something in the world that she can't find in herself. She is aloof and stand off-ish because she doesn't like people. She has a bad reputation with Fixers and Johnson’s which is exactly why she got stuck working for Fredrick. She isn’t mean or cruel. But she has little compassion. I thought I had done a good job of playing her in such away that it was obvious these were her issues. I even tried to show her humanity a little by having her have the jitters before the meet. Oh well.

You're pretty much stuck using the lowest rating Encryption rating in the network. So if everyone has Encryption 6 and one person has Encryption 1, everyone only has Encryption 1 while using that network. Master units (like Tactical Communications Gear) only have increased range and other perks, but the Encryption works the same way.
JaronK
Jun 9 2004, 04:48 PM
Well, in that case Paris is not going to have the cash for decent Encryption to go with his gear, which is a shame. I'm not sure how to correct for that, I'm afraid, except to use code words on the comm.

Well I was gonna hit the sporting goods store with the list for what everyone wants, and just call my fixer if there was anything unusual. Hellcow doesn't do much in the planning stage anyway, and this way everyone else could do what they need to do. It sounds like I might be the only one with a decent ID too, which I suspect i'll need to buy stuff legitimate.
EDIT: Put it all together, I need:
Paris/JaronK -

1,900 without the gas detector, I couldn't find it.
Evans/FXcalibur -

156
Sedryk/Chance -

500
Belfast/RoUS -

915
Brand/crechebaby -

515
Hellcow/Number 6 -

TBA, looking like 2,500-ish with the GPS
If anyone else needs anything, lemme know now, i'm gonna send the list and rolls to Tinker probably after the Cubs game.

Just make an etiquette roll or intelligence roll (your choice) to aquire the gear. Assume the TN is the highest avail in the lot and the same for time. Then just figure out how you actually got it

Nav-Dat has avail 6, everything else is 4 or less. Everything is under 48 hours, most stuff is 24 hours. Gonna head for a major sporting goods chain store and look for a cute lady. Whatever she doesn't have in stock i'll ask her to order from a nearby store for me to pick up later. The Good Looking reduces the TN from 6 to 4.

Damn, wish I had got those for negotiating our fee

If i'm reading the BBB right, thats 48/7 sucesses, means i'll get everything in a little over 7 hours. Hellcow will tell the clerk he'll pick up the gear when the store opens in the morning.

Okay, you guys are apparently looking at a completely different stat block than I am when it comes to the Otter. The thing has as much cargo space as a delivery van. There would be no trouble carrying a Body 2 bike (approximately 7 CF of space, out of the available 48 CF the boat has).
Sports cruisers are really big speedboats designed for offshore fishing and, well, cruising.
Panzergeist
Jun 10 2004, 12:02 AM
I know it has a fair amount of cargo space. However, people can't be stuffed into trunks. Does it have any seats beyond the 2 bucket seats it starts with?
A Rodent of Unusual Size
Jun 10 2004, 12:07 AM
It's no different than people sitting in the back of a van. It comes only with two seats standard. But bolting on two bench seats (if deemed necessary, which it isn't) would take up minimal space and load compared to what's available.
TinkerGnome
Jun 10 2004, 12:14 AM
Bench seats are only 6CF each. Which is, frankly, insane, but it's what the books say

Anyway, I need a plan of movement ASAP. We're moving ahead first thing in the morning (if I don't walk into work and find myself neck deep in work like I did today).
As it stands now, there is going to be some shopping in the morning and then at dusk the team is going to move out, half in a boat and half in a sub/van.
Ammend that as necessary, and include your destination. Some people might have forgotten, but the survey gear is stashed somewhere on the road between Seattle and Vancouver. It'll take a side trip, backtracking, or a circuitous route to get it.

Beast of Revolutions
Jun 10 2004, 12:33 AM
Yeah, bench seats take up less than a cubic meter. That's crazy. But another crazy thing that kind of balances it out is that during vehicle design, it costs 500 nuyen to add a single CF of cargo space. So money-wise, seating is still terribly expensive.

Force 7 Undine (TN 7; +2 Aid Power dice): 2 3 10 3 2 2 5 4 7; 2 successes/services
Drain Resistance (7M; +2 Aid Power dice): 1 1 11 2 3 10 3 2; 2 successes, Light Drain (reduced by Damper)
Great Form Creation (TN 9): 2 5 4 2 9 7 4; 1 success
Great Form Drain Resistance (9M; +1 Aid Power die): 4 3 9 3 2 2 5 1; 1 success, Moderate drain (reduced to two boxes by Damper)
Great Form Bonuses: Armor +2
Healing Test (Willpower, TN 3): 1 3 1 5 4 4; 4 successes, 30 minutes to recover completely
I'm not sure if Great Form spirits get the Remote Service ability since they can cross domain borders, but if they do, I'm sending
Elizabeth (the Force 5 Great Form Hearth Spirit
Bel summoned the evening prior) to protect the van. If not, I guess they're on their own assuming we didn't split up (which... seems odd) in which case the

Elizabeth backing it up with her own use of Concealment.
By the way, I didn't mean to sound bitter or anything in my last post. I was just a little shocked. I'm thrilled to see us skipping ahead, but it would have been nice if it was just to the departure time instead of already underway.
