From that level. Going from 1 to 2 is TN 6. Going from 2 to 3 is TN 10. It takes one month.
You can't buy contacts with cash after the "seasoning" phase, by the way. You have to either meet them in-game and develop a relationship with them or use downtime.

Tinker, I sent you the updates to my character via PM. Do you want me to send them via e-mail as well?
TinkerGnome
Jul 6 2004, 11:13 PM
Yes, if you want to combine it into one email, you can also do the summary in the same email. I do need the summary, though. It'll save me lots of headaches later on.
TinkerGnome
Jul 7 2004, 12:58 PM
Okay, I need those emails before the end of the day today. These are the ones I've gotten so far:
- Paul_Harkonen -- Shade (stealth/B&E, adept, probably human give the concept)
- FXcalibur -- Marionette (lion shaman, dwarf)
- Misfit Toy -- Belfast (Belfast, human)
- Shadow -- Blaze (Wyrm shaman, ork)
- Chance359 -- Sedryk (Sedryk, ork)
- last_of_the_great_mikeys -- Brick (muscle, ork)
- WinterRat1 -- Mako (shark shamanist, human)
- RangerJoe -- Gritz (combat decker, ork)
Eight people so far (plus Panzer and Beast who haven't sent me emails yet but I know want in). If there aren't enough completed characters for two games, I'll be running the Mafia game and the other at a later date. All of that will get ironed out completely on Friday.
If you don't send me a character concept email today, never fear. You're not forbidden from playing. Get me a character by Friday and you're in. The only catch is that you won't get to pick the game you end up in.

Too many awakened...Tempted to use Evans again.
TinkerGnome
Jul 7 2004, 02:01 PM
Go with what you want to play. I'm not capping the number of awakened in either game, though. Just expect the threats to be scaled accordingly.

Sorry, Mako is a human. And is that the order you rolled or just what you have so far?

Rolls will be done late tonight or first thing tomorrow. Those are just the entries I have with concepts so far.

With so many magicians being submitted, will you consider allowing spells from "respectable" web sources like the
Hoosier Hacker House or
Blackjack's Pages? I just thought it might add a little more variety into the mix.

I notice T:AL isn't on the books list, so are you allowing channeling?
Panzergeist
Jul 8 2004, 08:14 AM
I felt cheated when that battle against all the spirits ended before they could attack me. I can't wait to try Swift Eagle against this powerful spirit you hinted at. That is what I bought a weapon focus for, after all.
TinkerGnome
Jul 8 2004, 11:56 AM
Yeah, I just picked up T:AL last week. I'll add it to the main list.
I got really sick last night and took a big dose of Hybernol (aka, NyQuil) so I'm still fuzzy. I'll be posting a "finalized" list of concepts and the "game choosing initiative" in the next hour or so.
I don't like web sources, as a rule, but if you can make the spell through the normal design rules and run it past me (and spend the research time to make your own formulae), you can probably have it.

Jul 8 2004, 12:14 PM
Current list of characters:
- JaronK -- Paris (Paris) -- 14
- FXcalibur -- Marionette (lion shaman, dwarf) -- 12
- WinterRat1 -- Mako (shark shamanist, human) -- 13
- Shadow -- Blaze (Wyrm shaman, ork) -- 11
- Digital Heroin -- Johnny Jett (decker) -- 10
- Paul_Harkonen -- Shade (stealth/B&E, adept, probably human give the concept) -- 9
- ??? -- Drake (mage of some sort) -- 9
- Misfit Toy -- Belfast (Belfast, human) -- 8
- last_of_the_great_mikeys -- Brick (muscle, ork) -- 8
- Beast -- Thor (Thor) -- 6
- RangerJoe -- Gritz (combat decker, ork) -- 5
- Panzergeist -- Swift Eagle (Swift Eagle) -- 5
- Chance359 -- Sedryk (Sedryk, ork) -- 3
Alright, that's 13 players. Go ahead and make your choices. Remember, you can choose one of three things:
- Pick a game
- Pick a player with a lower roll (this ensures that you end up in a game with a player you want to play with)
- Decide to let me stick you into whichever game at the end
Again, the two games are:
- In Heaven and Earth: A Mafia hit on the Yakuza's most deadly weapon
- Public Exposure: A counterterrorism effort in Downtown Seattle
Misfit Toy
Jul 8 2004, 03:45 PM
Although my choice won't probably be my choice since I'm so low down on the list (stupid "picking the most appropriate contact level" methodology), I'm going to futilely put my vote on In Heaven and Earth just because I adore games dealing with the mob.

Interesting split. Anyway, unless I get some unconcepted character sheets tomorrow, that's the way the games will be split up. Posting will start sometime tomorrow or Saturday, depending on a variety of RL issues
I want characters tomorrow. If you really can't get them to me until Monday, then that'll work, too.

Kinda worried about the alt team's lack of mojo.
Digital Heroin
Jul 9 2004, 07:49 AM
TG indicated the challenge would be scaled accordingly, but I think the team's laid out quite well. Mojo we may be lacking, but it's supposed to be a subtle operation, and my experience with magic is people tend to lack in that department when they could just mind control and fireball away.
Misfit Toy
Jul 9 2004, 07:50 AM
It does seem an odd outcome.
Two deckers in one, and a hoard of magicians in the other. If nothing else, it should prove two very, very interesting runs.
Of course since we have members of the last run in each one, maybe we could arrange some inter-run communications to "team up" during pivotal moments in each. Might be a logistical nightmare, but it could definitely be interesting...

Thanks Misfit.
If you don't mind me asking, what is Belfast's character concept? Just curious, since you're the only one on our team whose concept is not up there.
Misfit Toy
Jul 9 2004, 08:35 AM
I think TinkerGnome skipped on the quick descriptions for all the old team members. You'll note Paris' summary is missing from our list, too.
Liam "Belfast" McGuinness is essentially an Irish combat mage of a Celtic druidic tradition
remarkbly similar to the wujen tradition. He's aligned towards elemental metal (Manipulation spells and Spirits of Man as I recently discovered) which is opposed by elemental fire (Combat spells and Salamanders). In the last game his knack for dealing and manipulating with spirits proved to be his strongest focus, but he's a pretty well-rounded combat mage. If he has one weakness magically, its in protective magics of which he has none beyond Masking and Shielding. His other metamagic techniques include Anchoring, Channeling, and Invoking (the latter two explaining his reputation for Conjury).
Being Irish, he's no schmuck in a fight whether it by fist (drunken boxing) or by pistol (Glock 28), and he can be quite the charmer when he wants to. Beyond all that, he's pretty good at interrogation, has quite a few contacts in the freedom fighting department (hint hint), and is currently in a hot and heavy relationship with a right sexy lass with a fiery temper who works as a street entertainer Downtown (a level 3 contact that, based upon the team make-up, might be someone we can call in if we need a bit of muscle). He had a leprechaun familiar in the last game, but TKG wanted me to change certain aspects about Bel and losing Red Tom was one of the sacrifices I needed to make in order to keep him up to snuff. If the games continue, I'm definitely going to be reinvesting Good Karma in "the son of Red Tom" as the GK rolls in -- I really had a blast playing him.
For continuity's sake, however, I'm going to assume Red Tom sacrificed himself to help save us at the end of the last game... so Bel might still be a little depressed about that if it comes up.
All right, is that enough or were you looking for something more specific?
And sheesh, in retrospect it dawned on me while reading what I just typed that I
really need to start creating more simplistic characters. That, or get a life. Neither of those prospects sound very promising though... bah.
