Recent one from our group:
Torch - hermetic mage dwarf, horribly disfigured while attempting initiation into the Halloweener's gang. Something about staying in the ring of fire about as long as Slash&Burn remembers being trapped in the burning hideout after the renraku attack.
Got this name after we started playing. Used to be just Bill.
edit: Whenever Ivan has a little too much to drink he starts referring to Torch as "Flamer".

Ah the comedy!

When I first started playing SR, I created my character, then based a self-designed archetype on him. I named my character Tangent, because he worked both a 'day-job' (a Contract Courier) and the shadows, and I looked in my thesaurus various names for someone who would work like that.
A street name can come from word-of-mouth reputation, a lifestyle, a cover profession, a childhood nickname, or just about anything. If it sounds fitting to you, use it.

QUOTE (Gyro the Greek Sandwich Pirate) |
"The Gardener"
It sounds so menacing, and yet so vague, doesn't it?
It also happened that it was a two foot tall gnome, but hey.... |
We have a "Gardener" character, spanish elven physad, devote catholic, has a digging trowel weapon focus and a hooked metal pole. Did a lot of actual gardening as a day job.
Let's see, some good names.
Bullets - Orc ammunition specialist
Charlotte - Spider shaman, hunts insect shamans
Cripple - Creapy mage. Causes turnabout to those who pick on others.
David - Physad Face. All his powers are geased that he has to be naked though. Very Scary to role play.
Element - Drone Rigger, drones are set up to deliver all 4 types of elemental damage.
Garbage Man - Rigger with a highly modified garbage truck
Hanger - Physad Window Washer, with adhesion and meld. Skilled Chemist.
J'mes - Rigger, flies a mechanical dragon
Juggernaut - Troll Urban Brawl Player. Rolled 30 dice on a body check on first run, needed 4's, got 3 successes.
Knockout - Physad initiate (magic rating 4). Former K-E, now shao-lin. Will not kill, ever again.
Lagomorph - Combat Mage with a thing for rabbits
Leine - decker. Created
before watching the anime with the similar name.
Ludite - mage, speciallizes in destroying anything techy.
Nightfall - cyclops who has to sustain to
not have force 6 shadow around him
Odin - Storm Shaman
Optic - Mage/drone rigger. Has fiber-optic cables to all his drones, special RC deck with lenses he can cast through.
Pling - Troll armor maker (int 4). Auther of bestselling books "how to not get shot" and "How to get shot and not care"
Rural - surged outdoorsman
Shutdown - streetsam/rigger/decker. Shuts down systems by whatever means nesisary. Including the large emp device in the van. (Which works in our game, save that debate for elseware)
Slider - Face, skunk shaman. Human with char of 8.
Smashbits - Troll Combat Decker
Tinman - Street Sam with .02 essence
Wolfpak - drone rigger with pack of walkers
Zapper - Has a large electrical charge on him which he manipulates. Hard to turn off though.
Timesplit - Planeswalker, chronomancer, electrician. Ok, not really a shadowrun character, but has made a few camios in our games.

Lessee.
Hawk -- Jack Hawkings, Generic Mercenary.
Hawk -- Ork bike-ganger.
Hawk -- Salish Hawk Shaman
Hawk -- Fixer with cheap, but shoddy, goods. (Was supposed to be 'Hock' but teh punks he worked with didn't catch that.)
Hawk -- Knight errant officer
The five Hawks were quite a bit of fun. The first was a PC, who kept running into other people with the name of Hawk. The perils of a common streetname. "Was that Hawk teh merc or Hawk the Ork?" "Hawk the cop. There's another Hawk?" "Oh frag, a cop-Hawk? Add him to the list!"
Gazelle -- Dwarf who replaced her limbs with Elven cyberlimbs, to make herself tall and lithe.
Sundown -- Makaw bounty hunter and tracker. No cybernetics, no magic, but he readiated badassoity.
Mr Fuchi -- Decker that'd taken one too many hits from psychotropic IC ... he collected Fuchi products exclusive to any other. After tehcomapny collapsed, he got desperate and now has a MUCH harder time with his obsession. Works cheap for rare Fuchi products in barter.
Riffraff -- Rat Shaman. Former corporate spellslinger who was defeated by 'Kid Up-and-coming' in a magician's duel. Wound up having his eyes blown out in addition to losing his job and getting kicked out. Had enough to buy dirt-cheap cyber-eyes that glowed red when it was dark. Also had Str 1 hand razors. Absolute bastard.
The Dragon Lady -- Triad leader who might be a dragon, might be a magician, might just be Some Generic Asian Chick. Works the dragon motif, however.
Olga Fafnirsdottir -- One of Seattle's only Giant women, former star of bad Norwegian TV (She herself is elevength generation American) where she played Sif. Wound up getting her own spinoff from the Thor TV show. Retired at thirty-five, now runs a store in Seattle that caters to Troll-sized clients (Clothes, furniture, etc) ... also runs a Nordic-themed eaterry, again sized extra-large. Seats humans at "The kid taables".
Whitefish -- sleazy fixer, digs up fresh bands for clubs. Good at his job, master of the art of the deal, has the bad kind of fat.

I like the Gazelle character idea, Reb.
Here's some I have used:
Exon and Intron - Decker and Face elven team.
Romero - Ghoul fixer
Renaissance Man - Burnt-out hermetic mage that turns to cyberware
T.L.C - Troll ganger, usually just T.C for "Tender Care"
We had a fellow in our group that would come up with a bunch of nicknames for his sim-pornstar-turned-runner, but they weren't so much good as just funny.
"Mr. Johnson" -obviously
"Lance Ares"
"Ron J. of the Shadows"
"Weapon of mass Destruction"
"Elf Hunter" -don't ask
"Frag-el Rock"
"Richard Veneral" and others that I just can't put up here.

i've got a couple that i've always liked. i've pretty much always been the obvious namer...nothing too fancy.
Blade: favorite PC. Spurs and finger razors. and guns. street sam with a heart. as a kid, got attacked by a dragon during the awakening and got really badly cut up, but not killed. scars all over his body.
Edge: uses knives, go figure.
Wheels: Permanent cyber rollerblades attached to his feet. rolls everywhere.
Smoke: favorite NPC. decker. his icon is a figure made of smoke. when he hasn't been detected he appears as just a fog covering the system.
DemonLover#69: favorite icon. a matrix user that the PC has run into in a chatroom. icon is a succubus (sp?). she's a lot of fun to play...

Here's an interesting bit: I was talking to a guy who works at a club. He was telling this story that involded a ex drug dealer called Blind Fury, so called because a few years back he got shot up pretty bad and lost his sight. It just struck me as an interesting example of a street name. I asked the guy if people really called him Blind Fury, and yeah they do, in fact he didn't even know his real name.

Bricktop, in reference to the movie, "Snatch."
No, not a Troll, but...
He was a hermetic, who wore Buddy Holly glasses, and he went through a wall once via his head. The emo hipster of the group, a jackass, and well...He deserved it.

Street Names I've used:
Slayer - human sammy with paired SMG's and spurs
(Gun)Slinger - weapon specialist
Solar - Sun shaman with a penchant for the Nova spell :o)
Firestorm - Troll version of Slinger pretty much
Blaze - Only ever character with cyber arms (they suck)
Nexus - elven girl vehicle rigger (CHA 10 to boot)
Raven - drop dead blonde hottie street sam/face (yes, she did combine those two effectively) who likes blowing stuff up
Tex - weapon specialist with a Wild West theme
Street Names in my current group:
Wraith - cat shaman cat burgler with lots of illusions spells (tough challenge for a newbie GM)
Pheonix - sniper/pistoleer who in the early days did rise from the ashes several times (earnt an 'edge' after 10+ runs of scar tissue buildup)
Flex - elven street same/combat decker
Canis - wolf shaman combat monster who doesn't have a problem with cyberware
As a group, we try to steer away from cliche or obvious street names, and for a while it was 'pick a random paracritter' season, but now we just go with what works. We normally try to come up with our names as part of our histories.

Jimmy Nostrils: Mafia goon wannabe, B&E guy with lots of contacts and Mafia knowledge skills.
Wardancer
Jan 6 2005, 01:42 AM
My first character was named Wardancer, after a class in Imperian, an MUD.
Basically, Wardancer was this cold guy who was once a rich guy's son that kicked ass with a pistol. In my first six games, he never missed a shot. Seriously. Not that all of them killed with one shot, but he never missed.
Situation where a couple guards were dead in guard quarters, more are coming.
Another character in our party (forget the name): Whatever you do...don't....miss...
Wardancer: I never miss.
Four guards come in, he proceeds to kill three of them with headshots and one with a regular shot because he had no combat dice left.
Ah, good times. Those were some damn lucky rolls.

Cancer - Sam started out in a group taking names from zodiac signs. Sole survivor of that group. Always liked the look he'd give when someone would talk about some guy that had killed more guys than cancer.
Plague - character that got tagged with this name after falling from helicopter over targets home. "A plague upon your house!"
Token - lone elf among a group of orks.

We have a tradition of having the rest of the team choose the street name for the character after a few runs. This has lead to several rather humorous names, including Bullseye (not because of his skill with weapons, but because he always seemed to get hit by the bullets), Generic (because he had the Bland edge and could cast the Disregard illusion spell), Scruffy (my current character, an overweight overall-wearing ork who has Home Ground: Sewers and the custom flaw Grimy - Everyone thinks he's dirty no matter how much he cleans up, everyone thinks he's a Toxic Shaman even though he's an air elementalist, etc... He has a shovel force 5 weapon focus and talks to Devil Rats), and Vague (because the player tended to be a out-to-lunch sometimes).
The one name that no one is allowed to take is Spider, a character played by an idiot player who did things like drop grenades on his own team members.

Jan 27 2005, 07:13 AM
Most street names that I've come across or come up with have been pretty straightforward. Typically just one word, either a simple noun or an adjective describing the character in a nutshell. eg: Twitch, Paddy, Duke, Sparks, Red, Shaky, Stoney, Leaf, Hack, Spectre, Brutus, etc. Sometimes we'd be a little more adventurous and use two words: Teddy Bear, Top Hat, El Tee, etc.
There have been very few names that have stood out as being somewhat more original: Amos, Praetorian, Fezzik, and Othello are probably the standouts in my memory at the moment. The first was a sniper who could almost shoot through time. The second was a combat monster with a purple cape. The third a giant troll who ruined limbs during interrogations. The final one was a black rigger/face who murdered his previous wife after being led to by his partner Detective Hugo. And Shakespeare wept.

One of my fav char names: Greye Vulpis - Fox Shaman (Vulpis is Fox in Latin)
Best earned name: Captain Ebola (or Ebola-boy). The guy screwed up a run, caught ebola, spread it to part of the rest of the team and survived minus a body point. He also was one were the rest of the team would consistently make sure he had no grenades because if he had them he would consistently put them in the worst possible place for the rest of the team (like under a car the team was using to hide behind, etc.)
Thrax: Fire mage (I believe Thrax is fire in greek?)

I have a couple characters that have street names that are somewhat unusual.
Rouge (Covert Ops/Bodyguard/Female Escort) as in the purple rouge she always uses for makeup.
Cotton (Female Street Samarai) , her hair was white and fluffy as cotton. Oh my God! Someone that wears something other than Black.
Stormy (Female Rigger), specialized in bikes and cars. The transportation girl. Had a bad temper. Hated Jaywalkers. 10 points per.
I am still new to SR, but I like the action.

Sue Be She. Don't you think that would be a good name for a female riger. It would make a opening line.I mean you can say Meet Sue Be She..... Just think for a bit and say that line in your head a few times.
Now say it as if it were one word.
