Yeah, Verbal / Soze to me was more of the ex-shadowrunner dipping his hand back into the business to ensure an incredibly important run went off without a hitch and with no witnesses.
Kobayashi was definitely a smooth Johnson.

QUOTE (nezumi @ Jan 19 2005, 04:54 PM) | I don't know about Batman. Shadowrunners gotta lose SOMETIMES. Batman doesn't do that. He can't lose. It's like the law of gravity or something. |
Batman has lost on more than one occasion. To was crippled for a year, lost a robin, and more than one criminal has gotten away.
|
And lets not forget that he let a murderous power-armor-wearing psycopath take his place while he was crippled. If that wasn't a bad decision I don't know what is.
My vote is for Snake Eyes, because he is a ninja from the 80's
Despite the fact that he constantly wears a mask and cannot speak he somehow seduced Scarlet. Obviously, he is an Adept with some social powers on top of his plethora of ninja powers.

Emil Kadaji (sp?). The Man Who Never Missed.
He singlehandedly spearheads a revoution by convincing the government that they are fighting a man that never missed a shot, despite firing tiny darts at men in full security armor. The people feel they can't lose if the Man Who Never Missed is on their side. And he never once killed anyone, just put them into 6 month long muscle spasms.
And at the end of it all, he lets them find him and fakes his own death.
He goes on later to train a whole cadre of shadowrunners.

One of the top spots has to go to Sam (Robert DeNiro) in Ronin.
He sets up a perfect plan for a run. Ferrets out a two-faced Johnson and then gets even. All the while, he's got his own agenda (see the movie-it is really good).

hyzmarca:
Snake Eyes no longer wears a mask, unless you count the hood that is part of his combat gear. He underwent major plastic and reconstructive surgery in the late 1980's, about five years before the original
G.I. JOE comic series ended its run--their base was closed down during the Clinton Administration.

Ironically, the doctor who performed the operation was a Doctor Hundtkinder (I believe that that's German for "sonofab***h", but I'm not certain

)--the same Doctor Hundtkinder who had, earlier in the series, restored The Baroness's face when she was severely burned trying to stop Major Bludd (who was acting on Cobra Commander's orders) from killing her lover, Destro.
Anyway, Snake Eyes still has some scarring (especially after a brainwashed Storm Shadow slashed him across the face with a combat knife early in the run of the current comic series from Image Comics), and is unable to speak above a hoarse whisper because the accident which originally disfigured him also damaged his vocal cords--he normally communicates via ASL (American Sign Language), with Scarlett acting as his interpreter.
As I recall, he took a facefull of burning aviation fuel in a helicopter crash--he, Scarlett, and several other members of the future G.I. Joe team were taking part in a peacekeeping mission in the Middle East (possibly the 1967 or 1973 Arab-Israeli conflicts). There was a collision, and Scarlett was in the path of a jet of flaming fuel that shot through the window (or possibly a hole torn through the aircraft's skin by the collision) directly opposite her seat. Snake Eyes pushed her out of the way and took the blast himself. She never forgot that, and they were friends from then on. He'd lost his family in a traffic accident shortly after he was wounded in Vietnam (the accident also claimed the life of the drunk driver who caused it, the brother of the future Cobra Commander), so Scarlett, Stalker and the other members of his unit were the closest thing to a family that he had left, not counting his adopted brother, Thomas "Storm Shadow" Arashikage and the other members of the Arashikage ninja clan.

The original MARVEL COMICS series ran for 155 issues, from June 1982 through December 1994. The title was resurrected in October, 2001, by IMAGE COMICS, and has run for 47 issues so far. (it's still going

)
Sorry if I rambled (I tend to do that).
I do agree with your point about his attraction to Scarlett, though. I figure that she either feels loyalty to him for saving her life, at his own expense--or maybe she just likes the strong (almost-)silent type.

Both the Hacker and SHODAN from the old System Shock game (SHODAN is like DEUS with a more "intersting" personality

) as well as the game's entire universe (TriOptimum could easily have been a Shadowrun megacorp), and Garrett from the Thief computer game series (he's a shadowrunner in a steampunk/fantasy world, but he's still a shadowrunner, and a damn professional one).
Oh, and Burke from Aliens is the stereotypical corporate-guy type.

Omer Joel:
Funny you should mention him.

Shortly after
ALIENS was released, Paul Reiser, the comedian-turned-actor who played the role of duplicitous Company employee "Carter J. Burke", admitted in a televised interview that his performance was so over-the-top nasty that
his own mother despised the character when she saw the film (it was a private, pre-release screening attended by the cast members and their friends and family members).
She actually
cheered when Burke got into trouble near the end of the film.

Some character are just missing...
What about Jason Bourne from the Bourne Identity and Supremacy? I mean he is a great character.
I was also thinking about the character of Danny Ocean(George Clooney) in Ocean 11 and 12 or Rusty (Brad Pitt) i mean there a great shadowrunnr pair with some attitude.
Then again you have all the Badass from Reservoir Dog movie.
Finally, what about the character of Winston(Harvey Keitel) in Pulp Fiction that just stop by and fix everything up
so, what do you think?

I got a couple here. The film "Ronin" was a classic example of a Shadowrun. It had a Johnson, a set-up, mercs, heavy weapons, covert ops, insane chases, computer hackers , and Robert DeNiro. Can't beat his character Sam in there for showing how a shadowrunner can be an ice cold professional.
I'd also have to lean towards the Punisher. I mean, he is a bit over the top with his methods, and doesn't do his jobs for money, or really for anybody but himself. But damn. Ole Frank gets props in my book anyday.
And let's not forget my namesake, The Grifter of WILDC.A.T.S. fame. Ex-Spec ops turned mercenary, an arsenal to die for, the look of a total scumbag, and a mouth like a motorbike.

Actually, someone
did adapt Ms. Croft (or should that be Lady Croft, considering that her father in the films was a Lord?) to

Here's a link to the site:
Morpheus Unbound's Battletech and Shadowrun pageAnd to the character in question:
Supporting Cast: Lara Croft(Of course, she was adapted using
SHADOWRUN 2nd Edition character creation rules, so some changes might be in order to adapt the character to
SR3.)

I hadn't even
considered him--"The Jackal", I mean. Wonder how you'd play him as a PC or NPC? Straight Adept (Invisible Way or Warrior's Way, natch

), with some geasaed Cyberware (rigger adaptations to control vehicles, perhaps, or a Smartlink?), or something else entirely? Or possibly some form of Physical Mask spell, with a similar spell to alter his voice.
I can see him as a sort of "stealth" Street Sam with some sort of Cyberware that allowed him to alter his appearance at will...
The Grifter:
I can see a GM with a sense of humor bringing Sonic or any of the other, more unusual, video game or pop culture characters into
SR as City Spirits or something. (How about summoning a City Spirit in the form of
Pac-Man (okay, okay, I
know I'm showing my age here--I'll be 41 in May-- but so what?

) showing up to
devour a band of marauding Ghouls or something....)
(Just imagine an Espionage campaign with the City Spirit of James Bond suddenly appearing, or a Lone Star Combat Mage summoning the City Spirit of John McClane or "Dirty Harry" Callahan. The possibilities are almost limitless.)
