Full Version: Spell points on a conjurer

Edward
I am looking at building a specialist shamanic conjurer (possibly obeyia) and am wondering what to do with my spell points. Is it just me or are they completely useless.

You could use them to bond foci, I guess. Or ask your GM really nicely to let you convert some of them into nuyen.
Grinder
Besides spending them on foci (assuming you have the nuyen to buy some) they're a waste. That's surely one of the reasons only a few people play conjurers.
Mumbles
If your GM allows, use them to summon an Ally Spirit.

Options what to do with your 35 spell points on a conjurer:
  • Trade them in at a 5:1 ratio for a maximum of 7 build points under the build point system
  • Bond spirit foci
  • Initiate (p. 16 SRComp under "Ressources" for details and MitS)
  • Conjure Ally Spirit (again p. 16 SRComp, "Ressources" and of course MitS)
  • A mixture of the above points

What to do with Conjurers and spell points.

I asked the same question. Remember, the searh function is your friend.

So the question becomes, which option is better? As a conjurer shaman, I initiated once (took invoking), and bound a force 3 power focus. Since those increase the size of the spirits that you can safely summon, they're very handy for offsetting 3-4 points cybered essence loss.

Obviously, if you can con your GM into letting you initiate at chargen with the familiar ordeal, that's what you should do, but I imagine most GMs won't go for it.

I did! I let a conjuring adept (mage) start with an initiation (invoking) and an ally spirit. I figured he needed the extra umph. It seemed to work out fine. He only brought out the elementals on special occasions. Most of the other times he used watchers or his trusty Ares Predator.

You can buy extra spell points at chargen with nuyen, one would think you could trade them back at the same rate as well. It would give awakened characters a bit more flexibility if they wanted to change to focus of their character a little less spell oriented.

Because a magic user could then trade in one spell point and go from 500 nuyen (-5BP) to 25,500 nuyen (5 BP) at chargen, effectively jumping up ten build points in resources. Trade in four points and gain fifteen BPs of resources. The Awakened don't need to be more powerful, thanks. nyahnyah.gif

It's 5 spell points for 1 build points, IIRC. Shaman conjurers can pay 18 BP for their powers, if they turn them in.

The rule for buying spell points is different than the rule for selling spell points. You buy spell points for 25,000 a spell point. You sell them at 5 spell points for 1BP.

I would never allow spell points to be sold back, especially not for 25,000 each.

Priority A for money + Priority B for magic (as a conjuring adept) means you get summoning plus 1,875,000:nuyen:. Granted, most GMs would slap someone silly for trying it, but why put yourself in a position where you have to slap someone? Players will find plenty of reasons to be slapped without any help from you.

You cannot sell spell points for money. You sell 5 SP for one BP
You cannot buy spell points with build points. You buy them for nuyen.gif 25,000 each

Sorry I was a bit unclear earlier (If I'm right at all)

I was replying to this

I assumed that the priority system is what was being referred to.
