I was thinking about getting GT4, but Burnout 3 looks like a better buy. Have you played Burnout?
Kiedo
Mar 18 2005, 02:35 AM
yeah its very difficult, but it's really cool when you crash. the crashing makes it hard, but if you don't want a racing sim then I'd go with need for speed underground 2 of wait a few weeks a get the third one. But GT4 is by far the best racing game I've ever played, with the exception of the Ferrari F550 arcade game but only because it has a clutch.

Mar 18 2005, 04:31 AM
Isn't the crashing was one of the selling points of Burnout 3? Yeah, GT4 looks pretty sweet, though. Theres something like 200 cars in it, right?

To my shame, I don't really play as many racing games as I ought. We do have a nice setup for NFSUG at campus though. A THX-certified cinema (wonder how the Center For Telecommunications institute explained that away) with a bigass subwoofer installed under the front and center seat along with pedals and wheel.
But mostly my temper's more in wrecking them than racing them. I miss good ole' Destruction Derby 2

Mar 18 2005, 05:54 PM
So, we are now waiting on Jet and Sebastian to get back/catch up with the time line as almost everyone else has tied up their IC time to allow them to do legwork. Did I miss anyone?

Seems like it.

Mar 18 2005, 06:16 PM
Cool, this game has a lot of potential (don't they all) for some cool scenery and I want to get to that.
Kiedo
Mar 19 2005, 05:13 AM
Voorhees there are 650 cars and 100 tracks according to the case.
I'm going to go tell Jet what's what with the REX.
Fresno Bob
Mar 19 2005, 05:08 AM
Thats a lot of cars... I guess I'll get GT4, then.

Voorhees - just an aside to Jet - There won't be any rematches if he loses THIS race...

He'll be a real nice McGhoul Rib Sandwhich if I get a hold of him.

lol yeah thats about right.
Aes
Mar 20 2005, 05:09 PM
Mmmmm... McGhoul rib sandwiches.
Damn you Nikoli, now I'm hungry!
By the way, since we're members of IARC, does that mean we get free/cheap track access? Maeva'd be itching for a chance to do a few laps or make a try for a local record on a drag circuit come sunset.
Kiedo
Mar 20 2005, 05:57 PM
Yeah you guys get free access not that regular track access is much anyway probably 20 nuyen anyway(if it's worth as much as a dollar is). You'll need your passes, they haven't arrived at the HQ yet(one of you should roleplay the delivery) but I'm sure that could look you up or something.
Umm as far as the circuit track goes I'm going to use the seattle circuit the run indy cars on, it's in gran turismo 3 and 4 if you have it and can check the layout if not I'll try to find a track map on the net. The drag track is a standard track with the ol' tree(the white, white, yellow, yellow, yellow, green) standing proundly at the starting line. You might get a category record in the corsair but definately not a track record, the run top fuel cars monthly.
Oh I almost forgot, there is a car show tommorow, game time, and they team might consider dropping by, who knows there might be a lightning rider or two, or at least someone who might know something...

Lovely. Guess I'll wait a bit before writing up the posts though. Seems there's plenty of day left for Jet to get himself in trouble first
Fresno Bob
Mar 20 2005, 09:30 PM
If he hadn't told Johnny that he wouldn't fight him, Jet's knife would already be sticking out of Ackham's face.
I might not post for a while. I'm debating whether or not to race him on his terms.
Aes
Mar 20 2005, 09:29 PM
Aw, but some of us are waiting for this to be resolved so time will move forward and we have a reason to post again.
Until your little scrap is resolved, Maeva's still snoozing at the garage.
Kiedo
Mar 21 2005, 12:12 PM
Umm I know he doesn't have the common sense edge, but I feel it's paramount to advise you NOT to race him on his terms or period. Fight him, shoot him, just don't get in your car and hit the 1320 with him unless you borrow Maeva's car, you'd stand a better chance of defeating a gang of trolls unarmed. Just a suggestion.
I say this for the sake of the game, it is starting to drag a bit since it's pretty much you and I mono e mono right now.
Nikoli
Mar 21 2005, 01:52 PM
Besides, we need you to report back.
Otherwise we gotta find his name all over again, what car he drives, and where he gets it worked on.
Fresno Bob
Mar 21 2005, 10:10 PM
Yeah, I know I wouldn't race him. The bike I have doesn't go all that fast unless I nitro it. So I think I'll just let him go.

Yeah, Jet will kill him later. I was going to have him make some kind of vow, but I didn't want to seem overtly hostile.
Kiedo
Mar 22 2005, 12:31 PM
Everyone is going to the track? Thats cool gotta get in shape for the big race in a few weeks, who knows there might be some other teams there too. I was kinda worried that Jet wouldn't be returning to the shop but I'm glad to see that he's still kickin'.
Aes
Mar 22 2005, 02:43 PM
Well, going seemed the logical thing to do. Everyone would be itching to learn the track layout before their debut. We intend to walk away with all the prize money, of course
Nikoli
Mar 22 2005, 02:37 PM
Plus as basically the only non-racer, Luis wants to see the layout of the pit, get a feel for where issues might arise, how to guard against those issues and also get a feel for the lay of the track as I think I might be the only person with biotech.

Mar 22 2005, 03:21 PM
Can we get a map of the pit area?
Kiedo
Mar 22 2005, 04:06 PM
I'll have to fabricate one. The track is not using the streets of seattle anymore due to the track running in the middle of the Barrens, so they reconstructed it turn for turn, bump for bump in a more controlable area. So the pit natrually would be setup like a formula car pit, three entrances front middle and back, the team's pit place(well you have five places in case you want to have multiply entrants in the same race) is located at the back of pit road, the closests spots to the entrance to the pit area. in you area as I said you have five places for cars, and the track supplies the tools for in race work, you have to bring your own to replace a broken turbo. The security is easy to maintain since there is only one entrance needed to be gaurded(not that security would be a BIG problem anyway, unless you guys don't send a clear meassage to the Lightning Riders) the track provides security and around the perimiter of the track land is errected a magical barrier to keep unwanted folks out.
Thanks Tarantula for finding that map, it's the only one I could find too.

Trust me, when the time comes, I'l have at least 8 very clear messages en route over a short period of time.
Talk is cheap when you have explosives
Kiedo
Mar 22 2005, 07:49 PM
Oooh explosives, that should be fun.
Umm one other track related thing the first real staight after the starting line, the one right before the 90 degree turn is up hill with three short intersection like flat spots, this portion of the track is by far the most dangerous, if your going over 70(which most of the cars you all have by my calculations with be) when you hit those "flat spots" you will be airbourne(I can't tell you how many times in gran turismo, when I was just starting out, I can down sideways and entered into a flat spin). The rest of the track is great, it by coincidence is my abosolute favorite track from any GT title, so I know it like the back of my hand. The longest straight has a slight turn but it's nothing you'd need to even slow down for unless your driving a hovercraft or monster truck. The only tricky part of the track is the series of turns after that straight away, but it's not nearly as dangerous as the up hill portion. So with that in mind happy racing, and watch that first straight.
I'll try and put up a pit map if my desciption isn't detailed enough.
Tarantula
Mar 22 2005, 09:22 PM
Kiedo, since you actually have GT3, and I don't, if you could help me with landmarks and things, I could get a satellite pic of the street layout in the area. So far, all I've been able to find out is the space needle is visible in the background, and its near a stadium?
Thomas
Mar 23 2005, 03:04 AM
K-Bob will follow Luis and the big truck to the track. He might try a few stunts on the bike if an area looks to be free of police and dangerous obstacles, i.e.; wheelies, stoppies - ever cautious of cages (cars) and breaking the self-imposed 6k redline.
Nikoli
Mar 23 2005, 05:28 AM
Heh, just remember. K-Bob knows more about bikes than Luis.
Kiedo
Mar 23 2005, 10:17 AM
Umm I've never been to Seattle so I can't really pick any noticable landmarks but sufice it to say that I'll be pretty flexible with track configuration, just know it looks like the picture you put up. The area around the pit is under an overpass and the biggest straight is elevated, I'l go check it out as soon as I'm finished with my dinner.

quick question, I know the sensor information can be broadcast, but can the readouts as well? like tachometer, fuel efficiency, etc. Give us in the pit a good sense of what's going on under the hood as the vehicle is moving?

Yeah, but Luis has all the cool, shiny stuff in the truck. Exhaust Gas Analyzers, spark curve tracers and such are not the standard for street go-gangers. I figured that the Blitzen would run well when K-Bob joined but that there would be room for improvement to get the bike in top form. Just some flavor, perhaps a plot hook – in all, just a bit of play.

The pit area as I laid out, has three main entrances big enough for trucks to get through they lead to the road that runs behind the bleachers, there are recessed areas in the concrete that look like pillars will come out of, at the entance and exit of the pit access roads. In the pit itself under each spot is a steel grating big enough for a small group of people or one large troll to fit down. The only other entrance is a side door next to each pit access point that leads into the bleachers, each of the doors has a card maglock that looks like it came from a military instillation. There are no people actively using stealth, not that you can see, period. The whole area is spotless and there are various cleaning crew picking up the stands from last night's drag race competition.
Oh I forgot to mention, the drag track is separate from the circuit track, as you can tell there aren't any straight straights in the road course. But thats a different area.

Mar 23 2005, 08:37 PM
Is it a hole or is there a connecting tunnel of some type?
I assume it's some sort of fuel or oil trap so that if there is a problem, a fire won't spread too far.
Kiedo
Mar 23 2005, 08:35 PM
It connects to the sewer lines, and it is for fire control. If one of the pit crew happens to be clumsy and spill some gas while refueling during a race then that would take it into a safer area in case of fire. Water is visible from the pit and it looks deep.
