it's 1 point per person in the team cost in karma each? i though it a team KP was 1 point per person, flat.
HobbeGoblin
May 25 2005, 08:47 PM
I have the cost of 10 karma to start the pool each ( that's my twist on it...shows a major investment in forming bonds to one another in the past...simulating game time) That puts a karma point in the pool for everyone, you could end up with a team pool of 10 to 12 depends on whose still in. Thats above your own personal stash of karma. If a players luck runs bad in a scenario the pool may bring him through.
Nikoli
May 25 2005, 08:49 PM
ah, so it's a high personal cost thing. that would require a redesign on my part. I sorta went nutsy with the power points.
Also, any house rules we should know about?
HobbeGoblin

house rules...1. Use your heads, 2. Use your contacts when you can, 3. Have fun and reload often.

May 26 2005, 01:18 AM
OK, so how much karma from our good karma should we deduct for the team karma pool? One good karma per person or what?
Morgannah
May 26 2005, 01:21 AM
It's ten from the 100 good karma we've been given. Every two karma (read: 10 000
)we want to invest afterwards buys another die for the team pool, as I've read it.
How did you want to work with contacts after chargen, Hobbe? Ideally, I'd like
Echo to know someone just about everywhere so should I be investing cash? Karma? Something else?

Just so everyone knows, what do we have in the way of units, I know from myself and thanatos we've got a short range (605 if hobbes lets me have my assault rifle) sniper and a long range scout (thanatos). It'd be nice if it was all in one post but that's up to hobbes.

My character will be a scout/CQB. I'll be trying to cram in Perceptive and Cognition as well as other sensory enhancements as far as I am possible. Spot them from afar, sneak in close and take them down.

I was wondering if any of you ground pounders thought to go with the Snake-eyes remote imaging package, I know its expensive... but would help me out with aiming these here rockets and missles.....plus it would mean I could feed you the helicopter point of view of the battle field. Just a thought I dont have any drones to give you contorol of but would be willing to invest in one or 2 if one of you wants to take the package so this here remote control deck idoesn't look like a small waste. If i dont get an answer by tommorow im tossing the remote control deck for more rockets.
Just hope I dont get no friendly fires.
Shh dont tell them about the beer fridge its only .4 cf enough for 40 beers... they might try to take some.

The rating 6 verision is availability 8 so perfectly legal up to that point it is located in the rigger 3 book page93-94 with the stats block on 95. It is rather expensive.... if you didn't think about it to start you probabley dont have enough
However if you got a tactical computer its probabley worth the cost probabley the best one computer port ever. And your other rigger would really like for you guys to have some kinda targeting device for his fire also, be it laser or microwave targeter just let us know so we buy the proper seeking munitions.... that scatter is gonna be a killer other wise.

I think specter would be happy with out going rounds.
I ment what is everybody's area of expertise, be that sniper, demolitions, heavy weapons, communications, ect.
With a team this size there are bound to be subgroups like recon, or entry teams. Anybody have some in mind, I know that with a group this size and given specter's sordid history he probably would want to be overall leader, but he could definately head up the recon detatchment. I figure if everybody is on a sub team then they could choose their leaders and not have to delay everything by waiting for each player to vote for leaders of teams they really wouldn't have much to do with (I don't want to have to vote on who is going to be sub commander of the communications team, if there was one).
Thanatos is on nights right now so he's doing a lot of sleeping but he says he's in and votes for team karma. He's one of my RL friends and I see him almost everyday.
Morgannah
May 27 2005, 05:19 AM
Ahh, all righty then. Here's a rundown while I still have a bit of time.
Echo is a communications (decker, stealth and comm-oriented) and logistics specialist (face, negotiation, languages, and worldwide contact-oriented). Aside from these two areas, she's built as a solid secondary for what's needed with mid-range skills in demolitions, biotech, stealth, parachuting, and athletics. She can also take over the flight controls for the helicopter if necessary. Again, this is all mid-range stuff so she's support outside of the Matrix and her face 'duties.'
How's that?
Reign Maker
May 27 2005, 05:34 AM
My role in the group is summed up as air and spirit support, more in depth below for those who care.
[ Spoiler ]
1)My specialty is gonna be air support (not an attack copter but it should be able to own most APC's and light Tbirds the enemies got, main problem for it will be fighter aircraft if they can find me) I can deal with infantry but its rather expensive unless I get sensor lock or one of you has a target designator... rockets and missiles aren't cheap. I also can cast combat spells and summon sky spirits if I get a visual on the target which means the com jockey will be flying the helo god help us
2)Carrying your comm person in the copilot seat. The half the copter thats not machine gun and rockets is electrical warfare stuff and comm stuff. The copter is also going to be used as a spotter for the other riggers vehicle if that gets approved.
3)My copter is a long range extended air time so i should be able to go at least 1,500 km straight flying before refuel thats not including combat time when I get better fuel efficiency.
4)Of course thats all pending Hobbes acceptance of my helicopter designs and mods. If that fails I got 1 more vehicle right up done in which case I would be more a drone rigger and the vehicle would be a twin engine jet for you all to parachute out of including air dropping the other riggers vehicle.

Aaack, one last thing and I
swear I'll stop posting for a while.
Are we using Battletac as a team or no? I might be able to scrape a few extra points together to make that investment if no one else is interested in taking point on this.
Let me know.

Are there any other spell slingers in the group other than Panther (my character)? Kinda important to know that so I can select my spells a bit better for the team....
Kiedo
May 27 2005, 09:21 AM
Specter is, if there isn't anyone else doing it too, team sniper. He also specializes in ghost recon, and could easily act as a member of a scouting team. He's an adept of the invisible way, IMHO, and I'm spending a few adept points on that wonderful improved ability power (probably assault rifle and stealth). I'm debating wether or not to give him ruthenium things for that extra push. Basically he's your average merc who's extremely talented with an assault rifle and very good at not being seen or tracked. I don't think I'm even going to give him a sniper rifle skill.
I'll pick up a target designator if needed, and a battletac headset (or whatever the none cyber version is) if the team goes that route.

Ok this could be a long one.......
[ Spoiler ]
1) Wizbang and I pretty much designed are characters and picked and modified vehicles and drones (they are all her drones) together. Things you should all know. We use battletac both have cyber units, as well as battle tac IVIS between both of our vehicles and her primary drone. Since we subscribe to the same drone network (her vehicle is in a drone port on my RC deck, and mine is a port on hers) we will probably never have to talk on the radio, since it would be slower for us to have to jump to captains chair mode and do so. All communication from you will have to be either battle tac info, or through the Comms officer (her primary drone, and my helicopter both have intercoms also but thats not secure communications).
2)We picked Microwave seeking munitions, so if you bought a laser designator trying to help sorry. I know microwave weighs more but we didn't want to endanger you by having to shoot beams detectable by thermo out. Her drones already have microwave designators for us. BUUTTT I suggest any Scout types who can spare the 5 kg weight to buy one. You can always just spot for us through battle tac but being able to use seeker rounds will greatly enhance effectiveness.
3)A side note on Battle Tac- a general small unit tactics skill of high level will be better for the group then a a specialization. Since the IVIS goes of the vehicle specialization and the ground troops some other one.. I have a Small unit tactics at 3, SOMEONE better have a higher level.
4)A note on magic. You will be lacking spirit support.. I think I am the only character who can summon. I did modify my character a bunch to try and help out took invoking so I can summon sky spirits who can go into buildings and through the forest but it will be draining on me to summon greater forms to do that.
5) Back to communications incase you didn't pick it up one of you ground ponders needs a SECURE radio with eccm and encryption /decryption other wise you wont be able to talk back to the comms officer if the enemy has even low level ecm or heaven forbids just listens to you guys talk.
7) The Copter has been set up with rating 15 satellite link and a microwave link so the comms officer should be able to deck anywhere in the world and even into closed systems if we can get into microwave range.
6) Which brings up language... we might think of not using english as our tactical language. Its my 5th language anyway so.... risky if i have to give you the enemies precise location and movement vectors.
7)Overall opinion of the group. After re reading fields of fire and Sota 2063 I have a to tell you this is probably the most well supported Merc squad Outside of the Desert Wars competition units. However our main weakness will be urban warfare short of leveling the city or town.... though of course that is always a viable option and not to difficult with wizbangs APC
Other than that just don't let her drones get geeked and if its something to big for you guys to kill or there are just too many of them call in the coordinates and take cover.

I've almost finished the character, but some 411 on mine follows:
Dwarven Panther Shaman (I am using the Puma totem as a template)
He's pure shamanic sorcerer, a nature loving, tech-disliking, magic addict (and I do mean addicted). He has a reason for hating technology though, everything seems to break on him, and not just break, but a full catastrophic, irrepairable, inexplainable disaster sort of breaking. However, he's highly skilled in sign language, especially military signs.
He doesn't carry a weapon (the risk of it backfiring and destroying his face is immense), and uses spells to an overwhelming degree. Due to his lack of weapon usage, he depends heavily on his Panther form, though he has been known to take a predatorial bird form many times. He's highly skilled in unarmed combat, as well as having a Utility spell list (Ie: almost every mostly-essential non-combat spell in the world).

Anyways, a bit on my char:
Johnny is pretty much the opposite of Panther. He loves technology, and is mildly afraid of magic. He doesn't understand how it works, and he doesn't want to know. It just gives him the heeby jeebys. He also has some racism issues that stem from his upbringing in the heart of Dixie. He doesn't go out of his way to be insulting, but he does need to watch what he says and how he says it.
For the language Reign was talking about, perhaps we could take points in our own code, mabey something similar to what the Navajo Windtalkers did in WW2.

So, after chipping in for the team KP. Before buying any karma, what should our karma pools look like. I only ask becasue I don't see the rules for team KP in SR3, I know they were in SR2, but as written in SR2, they sucked ass. You wind up with less KP over all and add a vote mechanic to use karma you basically already bought. Sure, it's a team thing, and I already agree we should be a team, but I'm just not seeing the rule in my copy.
HobbeGoblin
May 29 2005, 11:16 PM
It's in the companion, there's still a voting mechanic to it but, you arent stuck trying to squeeze gameplay into a couple hours around a table on this medium so i think it'll work out.
