1)chance of them perceiving it almost nill
2)chances of them dieing very good
3)chance of me getting to loot the bodies and get bike parts great
4)chances of me getting hurt nill.

That would be my first conclusion and thats what i would stick with. Tough luck chummer next time go around our turf! You all seem to be playing a much more moderate game you probably dont even use FRT and Swat teams if they are in a building more than 2 minutes.

I just don't see the point of gangers setting up a trap to piss shadowruners off... they would do it to kill them or at least leave them dieing in the streets. Its a cyberpunk game and in my mind its harsh. I said it was my 2 cents not "This is how all games would be run"

I'd hit the team with a chaotic world spell, they'll end up wrecking without need of a cable. I wonder if a glue spell would work, in my mind that be the funniest scenario. They're minding their own business driving down the street and then splat their bikes stick to the road, but they keep going. Don't think it would damage the bikes either.

Look, if you are going for adding grit and harshness to your world, let the characters witness such a scene where gangers string a cable, mercilessly slaughter the hapless chumps and gut them for what ever isn't nailed down or can be pried up, but don't do it to the party. The technique is best used with an NPC the players have grown attached to but have spent no resources in aquiring (ie, a roleplaying earned NPC no longer useful to the plot but you keep around for flavour). I had a Gm that loved doing this, as soon as we start to like an NPC, we as players got nervous as to when they would be snuffed for drama.

If you are just looking to soften them up with a gang fight, use one of those craptacular DIY shotguns loaded with stun damage dealing debris instead a garunteed death cable

Personally, I would not use magic unless this is a serious gang (like the ancients) and the runners in question are really on thier 'bad person' list. Shamans are very rare, even more so among gangs, and aren't going to be wasting their time stealing bikes.

I'd probably shy away from really ingenious schemes either. THese are uneducated street people. If they're expecting trouble, that's one thing, but if they're just trying to steal bikes, cable across the street followed up by beating down their targets should suffice. No reason to bother getting everyone, unless the people still standing are fighting back. Just get what you can take easily. After all, it'll be mighty tough to fight a runner on a bike who's expecting trouble without losing a lot of buddies and/or damaging the bike you're trying to get.
