That'd work... she doesn't have any problem with elves, really, she's actually quite tolerant given the humans as a second class treatment she grew up with, but fighting the elven powers has kind of been bred into her by her brothers, and later the IRA itself...

Guys, I'm off for the weekend. Over worked and over stressed. A buddy invited me up to his cabin for the weekend to get away from things for a few days. I'll post when I get back.
Nightcrawler472
Aug 13 2005, 01:02 PM
Well, it's probably a good thing she doesn't hate elves, as my character will probably be an elf anyway...
I've got some of the background written, but I'm kinda busy this weekend 'cause my 1yr old niece is here (gives my sister a break), and I'm getting roped into baby sitting every 10 minutes.
Anyway, I'll get back to working on things 'till I'm next summoned...

Hey guys, I've been thinking about the type of character everyone's making, and I'm beginning to think my original idea would be kinda surplus to requirements.
Anyway, with that in mind I was wondering if a drone rigger would be practical? I mean, obviously if we're going to be visiting different countries all the time then it wont be (and I'll have to think a bit more), but if not I might try a rigger for a change.
Course, I would need help sorting out the drones but I've got a good idea of what I want, just might need some clarification rules wise.
So, what do you reckon?
Edit:
Sorry about double post...didn't realise until it came up but IE was set to work offline.

Aug 13 2005, 05:23 PM
If no one else is playing a rigger I think thats a fine idea. I am not sure what everyone is playing though.
Nightcrawler472
Aug 13 2005, 06:14 PM
Well, I'm pretty sure there's been no mention of anyone playing a rigger so far, so I'll start working on it tonight/tomorrow (mostly tomorrow, niece is still around).
So, who fancies an A-Team style van for transport?
Edit:
Also, I've now got a rough outline for a rigger character...
I'm not too sure about his origins as yet, but basically he was hired to give secure transport for what he later found out was an extremely paranoid shape shifter...what the shifter was doing he didn't know, and didn't really care at the time. Anyway, the Templars killed the shape shifter and so he's now after them for two reasons...for one he figures they'll come after him sooner or later anyway to tie up loose ends, and he's also kinda curious as to why they were after this particular shifter. Oh, and he's a bit pissed off that the person he was hired to transport got wasted on his watch.

Aug 13 2005, 08:34 PM
I was thinking of making a Car Thief "Rigger" steals what he needs for each job and if there is no time to rig it he is perfectly capable of outdriving the locals anyway... But I don't think I will have time to post with my new work schedule so maybe you could play a varient of that..
Buddha72
Aug 13 2005, 09:31 PM
A rigger is always a good thing. I think a combo character would work. Someone who can drive and steal anything on the spot but has a few maybe even just one tricked out ride for those big runs. I have had a character more than once by a rigger and a handful of drones so you have my support.
Nightcrawler472
Aug 14 2005, 10:01 AM
Well, my current idea is that he'd have one fairly modified Ares Roadmaster with a few drones that he'd keep locked up somewhere and only break out when the situation got
really desperate, and then maybe have a normal slightly modified van (or whatever) for transport.
But yeah, I could have him as a car thief...which would also give me a starting point, if he was stealing cars from a young age, then eventually got a loan from the mafia/yaks (or just sold a lot of stolen cars) that he could have the rigger cyberware fitted...
Thanks Noctum, you've given me a place to start with the background now
Edit:
Hey Shadow, just out of curiosity was your character ever in the Desert Wars? It's just my current (rough) background is that he joined a merc company for a couple of tours out there as a way of getting the cash to pay for the large amount of high-end cyberware he needed to be a rigger, and I was thinking I could write it so he'd met Downtown at some point...so, if you've any suggestions for how to work that in I'd appreciate them

Sister Suffering is coming along well... I'm going bio-sam for her, as in a twisted way she'll see bioware as less sinful. She's not exactly right in the head after all.

I am going to submit a new character for this game if Graves is not going to make it in. My new character concept would be an elf ex-merc who got recruited into the United Nations COMA (don't have the new Loose Alliances yet, so I am not going to go into greater detail). His employers are concerned about the Templars activities in other countries due to the United Nations proximity to the Italian Confederation. I was thinking of casting him as an elven Gurkha, who managed to join the Royal Marine Commandoes and the SBS, before joining with the 10K Daggers(may change to Combat Inc) for a couple of Desert War tours.
I am thinking of making him an adept, since adept powers are most adaptable to the extreme environmental conditions (mundane or Background count) found on battlefields and other locales that he may be deployed for special ops. Depending on chargen limits, I'd decide his core specialities later.

Shadow--The Ghillie suit is going to need the TD reduced down. Because it is an unarmored piece of equipment, follow the rules for customizing regular clothing. (IIRC you can get up to 2 pts of customization, but check CC) Also, I may be thinking of something else, but isn't the Ghillie suit generally terrain specific?
Digital Heroin/Buddha/Fenris--I still need character sheets from you...the last time I checked in only Shadow had submitted a final character via my proxy.
Nightcrawler--You are going to be starting in Seattle. A rigger would be fine and probably come in handy, my recommendation would be to buy permits for your drones if you go that route or to have a really good relationship with a smuggler that runs across the Atlantic. This game will probably end up in Europe at some point.
Ecclesiastes/ES_Sparky--How is the retooling coming? You both may want to think about the debts that you acquired in Chasing, their balance is due when the game starts.
General notes: SINs are good things, especially if you plan on travelling. Permits are the same. Check your availabilities and legality codes, since this will dictate what you can and cannot get permits for.
As anyone from Chasing can tell you, passports can be extremely useful and be the difference between getting smuggled across several countries and simply flying first class. (Flying first class is generally cheaper too...) The simplest game mechanic for a passport is to buy a second SIN for a different country.
This thread is closed for recruitment purposes. If you did not make the list, I will keep you in mind in case I need to find more people.
I'm trying to get this game started this week. Please get characters in to my proxy Buddha in the next few days. He will forward them to me or you can CC me, using stephen(dot)mcquillan(at)gmail.com

I'm down to cash spending for Rowan now, so it won't be long... passport-wise, I'm thinking she'll actually carry her old one, even though it has been under some scruitiny... but hey, can't argue with the fact she's been on a nice quiet pilgramage for years now, one her contacts will reflect...

HeySparky

40 weeks - 40 karma.
Not sure on the money.
BishopMcQ
Aug 17 2005, 01:23 AM
Money you owe:
Mafia--22k due in 7 days from when the game begins.
Ballefour Pharmaceuticals--18k in Medical expenses due in 22 days.
Favors you Owe:
Edana's Landlord and fixer--A life saved, twice.
Money Earned:
None, unless you scavenged gear/cred from your fallen companions.
Earned Karma:
40

Wonderful. Bishop has 14k in cash, but that ain't gunna cover much of that. Bellefour I'm not worried about, its the Mafia I want to make sure gets paid back.

Nightcrawler472
Aug 17 2005, 10:05 AM
Ok, given that I've never actually used Karma before, and since I'm playing a drone rigger...what should I spend the karma on?
Oh, also does anyone know if the LoneStar Strato-9 Avail. changes if you take it unarmed? I was considering putting in a different weapon to the MMG anyway, so I just wondered.
BishopMcQ
Aug 17 2005, 08:11 PM
My general rule on Karma for cash and vice versa is 5k=1 karma and you can spend up to half the reward in karma to get more cash or buy up to half the reward in Karma.
Bought karma does not count towards Karma pool rollover.
Nightcrawler--It may be easier for people to help you with spending karma if they know what your character looks like as least as far as skills are concerned.
Re The Mafia Loan--There will be repayment oppurtunities in the game which will coincide with your objectives...you will simply have to ask yourself if you want to get in bed with the mob...

A question about passports/credsticks.
How much do they cost? (I'm using NSRCG as a crutch for my shaky grasp of chargen and you have to put an amount of money on a credstick and pick a rating, but since you can put any amount of
on the sticks I wondered what that was about)
I want Edana to have SINs in Tir na nOg, the UCAS and Europe. What'll that run me? And do I need to maintain permits in all areas? Or can I renew permits when heading into another country?

Purchasing passports is the same as buying a SIN, the rating will dictate the cost. Look in SR3 for the pricing. Permits don't expire in the wonderful land of Shadowrun, but you must purchase them for each SIN that you have or there may be some confusion as to why you are carrying someone else's gun.

I didn't know there where rules for customizing clothing
The Ghillie suits are made to resemble generic brush that is found in most of the world, usually brown and darker browns. Local plants can be added to make it more specific to a location.
