Here's the LINK on Barnes & Noble's website. Yes, this may be old info, but I had to post it here. If this needs to be moved to another sector, I'm fine with it.

Well, color me happy.

Wow ... i can stop buying the old novel on eBay now wink.gif

So they're starting over from #1 now and forgetting all the old ones? Too bad there's no fluff on what precisely the novel is about yet (or did I simply miss the summary?)

Born to Run is part 1 of a trilogy by Steve Kenson, that was originally based on SR Duels. It's already been published awhile back in German. From what I understand it's about a newbie runner (Kellan Colt) and her introduction to the shadows.

I'd still pick up all the previous novels, Dashifen. Most of them are still quite good.

And thanks for the blurb, Winterhawk11. biggrin.gif
Dashifen
Actually, I think I have most of them, but I keep looking since you can't find shadowrun novels anywhere else with any regularity.
BookWyrm
Try Ebay, or put the word out here which novels you're looking for. There's a complete list HERE.

Okay, looking forward to a new SR book - spin.gif Finally. But when I heard the title..
Hmmmmm

Yeah, Mercedes Lackey - a Modern Fantasy with elves magic etc.....

Isn't that kinda toeing the copyright line?

I could have sworn there was a time when Shadowrun was all about the battle between bad and worse, but on the other hand the novels never did seem to reflect this (at least not the ones I read).

At least we're not going to be seeing a 40 yr old Talon bemoaning the loss of his lover ... again. Aracos was cool though.

Winterhawk, any plans to write anything beyond the fiction in the BBB Lim Ed.?

From your mouth to God's (or in this case, WizKids's) ear! smile.gif

Seriously, I'd love to write an SR novel if they'd let me. But there are 6 books coming out first (3 from Steve Kenson, 3 from other authors). If they succeed I hope WizKids might consider proposals from new authors, but who knows?
fistandantilus4.0
Hopefully. I've read Kenson's stuff, and while it was good, I never considered it great. I'm not really thrilled about book number... what is it, 7 (?) from him. I've seen his point of view on SR. I'd like a change. Just my 2 nuyen.gif

Query, who would you write to to get a book published under the SR title? Roc? WizKids? Would you send a finished manuscript?
Demonseed Elite
I honestly have no clue. WizKids, I guess? I don't think they are going through FanPro US at all.

True, and I've known of him since the days we were working on a SR-themed APA 'zine back in the mid & late 90's. I've read a lot of his gaming stuff (mostly for SR, yes, but a few other articles, the titles of which escape me at the moment) but you have to admit he's held his own against a lot in the ever changing game publishing world. At least he tries to keep in within the genre.
fistandantilus4.0
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bad mouth him or anything. I'd just like to see something different.

For example, I like some of the random seeming but very interesting pieces of cyberware Lisa Smedman puts into her books.

Who knows, it's been a while since I read something new from him, so maybe it will be different. But I don't expect it to be so. I'd just like to see some other voices heard. He just seems so..... staple (?)

That information looks about right. AFAIK there aren't any new contracts for SR novels being issued at the moment, but you can always get on Sharon's radar screen for whatever the future may bring. It might be better to make a quick query to Sharon at the moment instead of sending in a full-blown proposal.

At the "What's up with FanPro" seminar yesterday, they had an overview of the 6 new novels, including a intro to the novels from of the authors.

We also announced www.holostreets.com a fiction & source based site from the people who make www.battlecorps.com. They'll be more info soon, but basicly Sharon from WizKids said that just as BattleCorps serves as the farm team now for MechWarrior authors, Holostreets is sure to serve as a farm team for the Shadowrun novels.

We'll get submission guidelines up soon with a static site.

Copied this from Gaming Report about the new novels coming out;

Sharon Mulvihill from Wizkids announced the return of the Shadowrun fiction line. Steve Kenson will start off this line with a full trilogy, taking readers along with a relatively new Shadowrunner to introduce the setting. Jason Hardy, John Helfers and Jean Rabe, and Stephen Dedman will round out the first six books with separate novels. The timeline will not mesh with the current SR4 release, although future volumes will tie in more closely with the game line. Some advanced preview copies {were?} available in a trivia contest of the old Shadowrun novels.

The authors in attendance gave plenty of spoilers on the books in production. The current titles of the trilogy are
Born to Run, Poison Agendas, and Fallen Angels. The individual novels are not entirely far enough along for finished working titles. Interested fans missed out on far more detail on all but the sixth book, but no spoilers will be given here {in the article}.

The winning tourny team at GenCon also got pre-editor copys of the book. Seemed Sharon had a few boxes of them in the back she was handing out to friends (and their friends).

So far its not too bad =)
BookWyrm
There was an pre-release copy on Ebay not too long ago, but it went for almost twice the suggested cover price, so I had to let it go. But now that I have all the ordering info I need, I can let my local Borders or Barnes & Noble get it for me. cool.gif
fourstring_samurai
even though he used the same plot device pretty much every time, i wish nigel findley was still around to write for sr. i loved his books.
BookWyrm
The pre-release novel went for a lot more than I was willing to pay for, but the Barnes & Noble near me can order books in advance & get it in by the release date. smile.gif

I just today picked up the latest Previews catalog, and here's what I found on p.492;
Shadowrun Book 2: Poison Agendas MMPB
Shadowrunner Kellan Colt thinks she's ready to strike out on her own when she discovers the location of a secret cache of military weaponry--right in the heart of the supernatural creature-infested Awakened Wilderness!
Sceduled to ship in Dec. 2005 (CAUT-4)

The "CAUT-4" rating means it may ship sometime in Feb. 2006

does anyone else find the runners names in the shadowrun novels a bit cheesy? Like Dirk Montgomery ( good books, bad names) , or "Kellan Colt"? Is it just me? I mean sure, you get all the street names which can have their own cheese to them. but these so called real names.... I dunno, that's my rant. I'm done.

Thanks BW. hehe... BW.. GW... hehe
Ferratus
Finished reading the new novel....awesome!!

Yes, some of the names are a bit cheesy, but it is also good to see a return of a few old faces, such as Green Lucifer.

And the copy didnt cost THAT much.....

I've read it too, and it's rather entertaining. It's very much a "beginner" Shadowrun novel, in that it's meant to introduce the world to new readers and re-introduce the world to those who haven't read a Shadowrun novel in years -- but it's fun enough for an evening read.
FlakJacket
Since the books were written as a Duels tie-in, I take it that they're firmly Shadowrun 3 version books as it were?

QUOTE (Adam)

Hey Adam, on a slightly related note this reminded me that wasn't there some kind of recording done of the What's Up with Shadowrun talk and possibly putting it up online? Or am I losing my marbles?
Ferratus
Yes, very much a SR3 book. But it has a good romp of a feel to it....good action, fun story.

I give it a thumbs up!
Adam
The first six books are SR3 in timeline; if WizKids publishes beyond that, they're planning on catching up to the 70s.

And yes, the Shadowrun seminar was recorded and I do have a copy of it, although I haven't had time to even listen to it yet.

Additionally, Flak, you haven't had any marbles to lose for a long, long time.

Green Lucifer, right on. One of my favs. Good times.

Just a note to everyone I organized a Book Signing at Pandemonium Books and Games in Boston Saturday November 12th. I'll also be promoting Shadowrun 4th edition out in front of the store. (They don't have game space) Stephen doesn't do much with SR anymore and only did minimal conceptual development for SR4 in it's earliest stages. He's the line developer for Mutants and Master Minds and will be promoting some of there stuff as well.

From what I can tell he's fairly laid back overall. So if your in the area come on by. I'll be posting an official post in a week or two.

I won't be able to respond, I've got to jet out to Salem Hosptial for work. Message me if you have any questions on the event.
Lenice Hawk
I love the Shadowrun Novels, but I'm sad to see the art is still so cheesy (well, judging by the cover of the new book). Why can't we have cyberpunk novels that go beyond the 80's vision of it?

Order your copy via your local Barnes & Noble or Borders bookstores. Make sure you have everything (title, author, printer & ISBN # from the main SR site). I ordered mine on Nov. 1st & it came in 5 days later biggrin.gif. Am already on chapter 5 & will update in a couple of weeks after finishing.
Stephen Kenson (the author) is using the characters from the Shadowrun Duels figure 'game'. More later.

Hm. Guess not.

Order? I just walked into barnes and noble on the 5th and picked it up they had several copies.

Started reading last night put in about 3 and a half hours got to chapter 7 so far I have to say I like it.
BookWyrm
Agreed, Casazil, but my local B&N didn't know about it until I ordered it. Sometimes it's just easier to do it that way.
BookWyrm
Well, finished the book last night on the 3 am train home from NYC. I have to say, Steven Kenson has not disappointed me yet with his storytelling. To me, it doesn't come off arrogant, rules-pointing nor does his style have that "this-is-canon-live-with-it" that other SR novels have had (Steel Rain had that, IMHO). I'm looking forward to his next SR novel in January. biggrin.gif
