I hope you like the system! The core of it is pretty solid, it is just the features that need to be tweaked to get an IMHO good game experience.
My SR4 PDF is almost a whole different document with my houserule changes added into it.

Yeah SR3 was the first ever rpg i ever bought and i loved the setting more than any other i just found the rules a bit hard because i found that often i had to really mark down on paper every step of every combat really carefully or i'd lose track of what i was doing. and i found it very confusing i mean after a while i could understand the rules but it was very clunky to deal with if you follow what i mean.
It was a bit tough on my friends who were newer to rpg's than I

Yes, that was a failing of SR3, although I intend to either make my own system (Modified SR3/4/SR3R) or stick with SR3, I really liked it...
SR4 is a decent system, much easier to learn and use (as I said), but it still needs a bit of work, nothing that cannot be house-ruled, but I was expecting better. I certainly hope your group enjoys it. Just be sure to use your GM veto liberally to keep the game balanced, or bring in the house-rule fixes as they come out.

I'll probably end up buying the print version aswell when it comes out. I'm just impatient and really want to see what the new edition is about now.
Its also useful for online games and the search function in pdf's is very handy too so if i can get both i like to get both.
And yeah i'm assuming errata will be a must and i'll be eyeing it like a hawk.
I'm also pleased that i took the initiative and jumped on the new product line when it was new so i can easily keep up with the books.

Hehe, the "being able to own every book" allure to SR4 is one of the reasons I thought of converting...
You can also bring the PDF to a kinko's or similiar store and print the PDF out, then hole-punch it and put it in a binder, that is my plan...

I don't know why you didn't get an initial email from us explaining the situation. I'll take the blame for that one though, and apologize profusely. I looked through my records, and see that you should have gotten an email from our programmer (Scott "Mordel" Bukoski) last night. It would have come from mordel@battlecorps.com. Check your order history and you should see the order there. |
@Vairdic: Sorry for me being angry at you, I understand that there must a hell of a workload for you with so many new products all coming out at once.
I have received the mail from Mordel, it got stuck in my spam filter (HTML-only, no full name, etc.) and can now finally download my PDF (currently it's not yet in my account history but I think it will appear there soon!
Thanks for your efforts ... :-)

I've never heard of any but maybe most printing shops can bind a book. Which town by the way?

Well, I must confess that after downloading Acrobat Reader 7, that the PDF is much, much zippier than with Acrobat Reader 6. Very strange. Still won't open with Acrobat 6 Pro on Mac or Windows, though. At least on my end. Seems like someone on this thread said they didn't have any trouble, but that is hard for me to understand.

I find that with Windows XP Pro, Acrobat Pro 6 it will usually open if you give it enough time, as in minutes. That's with 512Mb RAM. Not very pratical though.

With some of the earlier version of acrobat, (some of) the pictures don't load. This makes the file much faster. Notice that all those green borders, new SR logo under the page numbers, etc really slow down the file. If you plan to browse the PDF, use the earliest version of acrobat you have lying around and try to keep all the art from loading.

As was mentioned earlier, in this thread i think, in the Acrobat 7 options you can have it filter out displaying the larger graphic images. It certainly does make a difference.

Nope, just go to your order history, your account download and expiration date has been extended.

How does one turn on the product-specific update notification?
The only option I found on notifications is the general one...

Those who have purchased the PDF from BattleCorps.com can log into their BattleCorps.com account and view their Product Notifications. It's at the bottom of the My Account page. You'll have a checkbox for any product you've bought that supports this feature (presumably they all do). |
This has become a very large thread, but the other day I posted this...

Indeed.

Which, checked, failed to produce an email... even though those order processed mails work fine.

My assumption is that the system does not believe you purchased the product. Did you pay with PayPal by chance?
My other assumption is that if I were to uncheck the Shadowrun update box, and then visit the page at some point later, that I would have the option of checking the box again. I may be wrong here, and am not willing to uncheck it. =)
Can BattleCorps.com folks weigh in?

Holy frejoles batdudes!
a) It opens in Acrobat 6 Pro.
b) It opens in Preview.
c) It is one of the zippiest PDFs I've ever come across, especially considering the substantial content.

Thy would be quite weird, as the order is listed as processed, and right now, I am downloading the updated version.

The PDF runs perfect, though.

The system for updates regarding new PDF versions doesn't look at wether you checked the product notification box or now. It emails based on a purchase in the system. If you purchased from us, you should have gotten an email.
You can see my post today about the SR4 PDF re-released to find the contents of the email. Even if you don't get an email (say an error in your email address) the system will still reset your counts.

BLOOD SWEAT TEARS!

Aside from the sample characters, which are exported from InDesign, I rebuilt the entire thing from scratch: printing to postscript, then distilling to PDF, stitching together the PDF, and manually bookmarking it.
Every time I tried to export the interior to PDF from InDesign, no matter the color space, compression, or whether I substituted Process for Spot colors during the export, the resulting file would never work properly in Acrobat 6/Preview.

There was a little toggle labeled "Suck", but the "on" and "off" labels fell off. He just needed to figure out which way was which

Edit: or that, but I like my story better

Either way, major kudos.

The first obvious change is the version of tool he used for creating the file (ver. 6 instead of 7) and the version of format it was saved in (Acrobat 5 instead of Acrobat 6).
