And some of my biggest problems with the Arcology alone are what it stomps upon. The "Underground", and most of Pioneer Square, would be gone. The terrain would be skewed.

Take a look at Google Earth and consider the hill that the Arcology hits into on the NE side. That would have to get very creative to not screw up the integrity of the surrounding buildings as well as keeping the roads intact.

Personally, for my games, I move the Aroclogy south and west. I have the eastern edge just to the west of the Alaskan Way viaduct (roughly even with the stadiums) so that it doesn't interfere with anything else...

Love Google Earth and have used it a fair bit to show players where they are.
Did anything happen with this? Is the GE file available from anywhere? And would anyone want to host files for other cities?

If no one has spoken up about this, I know I would be willing to host the GE files and KML/KMX files accordingly. This is a tool we loaded to all the machines up front so we have multiple monitors to play with. Play with Google-4 Beta (Plus Version here) and add SketchUp and 3D Warehouse Network link.

I would definitely enjoying seeing a whole new "map of Shadowrun" in this stuff, but haven't seen anyone quite ready to go that far yet.

EDIT

While I'm at, for those people working on 3D models... can I ask that screenshots be trimmed down in memory size here??? The screens on rezcook are taking forever to download and I can't tell if it's from the uplink host or from the images. Anyway... thanks.

That's a combination of my 768kbps upload and the screens being original size. I was is a rush when I hosted them. Next time, I'll trim them a bit. =)

This is great...and will add a lot to my current Shadowrun game...

Nindaru...that is a familiar name...Man you are everywhere, I am suprised that we have not wound up in the same gaming group again...I have a 3rd edition Shadowrun game going in Everett if you are interested...

Hey, the map is cool. Noticed a couple of things though.

1. you may want to include the satalite overlay, while playing with the SR map I needed info on Useless Bay and had to go to the regular google map for the area. The roadmap display does not show it, but there is a lagoon adjoining the west end of the sound at Useless Bay, that is nearly as large as the sound. It shows up on the satalite images & blended map. I checked elsewhere in the area and found similar occurances around the map.

2. has anyone started working on the other major SR cities or surrounding areas?
Rajaat99
I had some computer problems, but I'm continuing work to get the map finished. I'm also putting the descriptions from the New Seattle book on the map and that's taking some time.

Yep, I am a true internet and gaming junkie. Yoiu'll find me all over the place.

I know this is a little late, but are you still running a Shadowrun game?

I´m GMing a Bug City adventure and i´m interested in contributing with some placemarks for chicago.

Right now i´m trying to figure out a way to draw the wall of the CZ. Anyone has any idea ?
Demonseed Elite
If I ever get the time, I could placemark the locations for Hong Kong. If anyone else wants to start work on it, the street addresses for the Hong Kong locations in Runner Havens can be found here.
will_rj
So, it looks lame but at least it´s useful.

I used an all red Gif file and used it to make the wall piece by piece.

For now all i´ve done is the Wall itself

My message in the New Seattle thread
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.ph...SID=#Post633125

The link to the placemarks.
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=633125

I´ll be doing some of the main places like ghoul town, wrigley´s dome and some gang´s turfs as well, but i would enjoy some help if anyone is interested.

I´m not sure which link will work, so i´ll paste both here

will_rj
My first attempt at doing the wall ended up being wrong.

I´ve fixed the wall and added lots of placemarks.

hello folks,

not so far away down south lies Tenochtitlan. The description given in the great "Aztlan" SB is not so consistant, not to speak of the ultra thin map of the city hiding under the backcover page.

ok enough is enough,
I'm developping the entire Thecnochtitlan map from Sat, views, Goo/earth view and any pertinent material. Even redraw the aerial view of Tenochtitlan zocalo with Aztechnology HQ and temples in realistic way.

If you'r interested in this project just wave me.
Everything will be welcome :
floorplans
drawings, photos and photoshop/gimp work, sketch
places description and so on.

high quality file for image are welcome.....

if/when completed this datasource will be accessible for free pdf format or whatever....opensource oblige

I've started on marking up Hong Kong. So far, I've got all the districts overlayed, but I haven't had time to get individual places located and marked yet. I have some free time coming up with the holidays though, and that's on my list of things to do.

In the meantime, check out this cool set of 3D buildings for Hong Kong.

Nice one, thanks wink.gif

I'm starting to mark up some canon and non-canon aspects of pre-Bug City Chicago for a campaign I'm running.

This includes marking out the various "neighborhoods" (Westside, Elevated, etc), along with smaller locations (Ghoultown, Shattergraves), and then the expanded monorail Skytrack and the growth of the pre-Shattergraves CTA.

I've also started on some 3D buildings using SketchUp, with my idea of what Truman Tower looks like.

that´s great. I´m running a campaign on bug City as well and i´ve already done some work (which is linked up in the thread) in Google Earth. I would really like to see your take once it´s done !

So, I'm old and don't quite get some of this newfangled tech-type stuff. Just what do I have to do to access all this stuff, other than just download Google Earth? Step-by-step for the computer-illiterate would be a bonus. biggrin.gif

I'm glad I got to take a look at your placemarks. Regarding Wind Transit Terminal, I never realized there was a second Metra rail that went through the Core (I only noticed the one near I-57).

Some of my biggest problems come with the situation of buildings, especially within the Core. In NAGNA, they mention that the Skytrack (the cloverleaf) has a station inside Truman Tower, which makes sense. The company more or less helped the development of the Skytrack, why shouldn't they? Granted, my 3D model and its placement aren't exactly over the Skytrack (although it's close enough that it could be; it's where the Fuchi building more or less is), but BC places Truman Tower well outside the Skytrack's inner section.

Second, if the Core is so valuable, why aren't more of the megas actually inside that inner loop? Most of them are situated well outside the inner Core like Truman Tower was.

And third, I envision Wind Transit Terminal as being much more than a regular bus terminal. Given how close they placed it to the Core, I would have expected a lot more function of a building that has so much underground space. In my Chicago, I have moved it literally atop the NE intersection of the Core's cloverleaf, an extension of the Red Line Metrorail (CTA), the eastern of the two ground level rail lines, and I-57, serving as an interchange among every sort of transit available, along with the convenience of corpers being able to park in Wind Transit's massive parking lot and just take the Skytrack or whatever to their skyscraper.

I'll put up a KMZ soon.
GuyofDoom
Don't suppose anyone is still working on this or has something similar cooked up?
Rajaat99
I'm slowly working on it, but I've been so busy lately. I'll post an update soon.
LordHaHa
Hey, I've got a KMZ of some SR locations. I've basically added the Seattle Sourcebook, New Seattle Sourcebook and the Neo-Anarchist's Guide To North America. In other words, I have spent painstaking hours detailing the locals presented in these books. For those without these products, this includes:

Atlanta (only includes general information, section in book not very detailed)
Dallas/Ft. Worth
Quebec City
San Francisco
Seattle

I also have some detailed information included in the package that pertains to the following adventures:

Harlequin (the "Spirtual" mission and all the missions after that particular one)

I would be willing to throw this online somewhere. The only problem is that I have included some of the more detailed information presented in those books into my landmarks. While this would probably be OK for my private use, it could present legal problems if presented publicly. Should I clear that data out and just leave the location markers or should everything added be left in?

EDIT: This KMZ is based on some old version of a similar package, and thus includes the graphic detailing the section city taken up by the Renraku Acrology.
Cyberon
Okay now i have found this thread, and heard about KMZ files, and yes i found the Google Earth link, even added a comment my self. I have found a great use for google Earth, to really make people understand the distances and locations, i remember the old days where the group and GM discussed exactly how long it would take to travel from one location to another in seattle, because the only thing we had was a small map and approx locations, the first "wow" when the players realized exactly how big the Archolgy is, because i crudly made a sketchup building and placed it in google earth.

It is not that i lack IT skills, but i am a mainframe programmer and visual creativity and internet coding has never been my strong side. But i do have a dream, that i have never truly seen anyone on the net make real. I have my own KMZ with compilation of what i have found, but it is incomplete. I mean the most used bar ever (at least in my group) Penumbra, and i have never been able to find a layout of the place (off. course i only have the internet as source)

The Dream
A community project that brings all the known and accepted (fan fiction/books/game sources) locations to Google Earth, with pictures, links to their blue prints (layouts), known buildings, overlays that show the look of Redondo Peak in New Mexico, along with Mount Adams, Mount Hood, Mount Rainier, and Mount St. Helens in the Pacific Northwest, that blew up during the Great Ghost Dance by Howling Coyote and his followers and other significant locations. Hong Kong buildings etc. all those locations we all love to run against but have never truly seen come to life.

The let-down
But sadly i have never seen anything like the above, only a few people who are dedicated, a few who have created some cool stuff i must admit, the few who publish it that is, but nothing grand scale, heck i don't even know what is needed to get such a project going, a server, money, a good webmaster, but i'd realy love to contribute to such a project, even though i lack the visual creativity skills.

The plea
I am pleading, please if anyone has the drive, the skill, the knowledge, the files, step forward and make yourselves known, share your great skills to revitalize the game for a new generation, who only is going to know Shadowrun as a shot'em up game that is twisting the entire shadowrun world and its history.

To the chummers wondering about the low population numbers. Did you factor in the mass deaths from war, the great ghost dance, VITAS, and the like?

Yes, we did. And it plays right into my point. If you account for all the deaths, migrations, etc, there is no way that SR's 'Seattle' can have such low population numbers, yet support the apparent infrastructure that is depicted in the artwork.
Khyron
Could the population discrepancy be due to only counting SINers? How about not counting corp citizens since they're not technically Seattle residence even if they live there?
Commiekeebler
I think the sourcebook might be only showing the population with SINs, i.e. registered citizens.

So Redmond has half a million of people with real (criminal?) SINs... and maybe 1 more million of people that "don't exist".

So Seattle as portrayed in the sourcebooks, skyscrapers, arcologies and all, might be more like 10+ million of real people, it's just 7 of them don't have a SIN, not even a fake one.

Slave labor, sweat shops, bums, prostitution rings, refugees... yum.

And against that backdrop, you have a loosely-knit community of about 10,000 shadowrunners, give or take, who have 2-4 SINs each. Drop in a bucket in the sea of poverty that doesn't show up on population sensus... just like the mayor likes it.
