He never knew his father, and though his mother never spoke of him, Ryan suspected that he died during the Night of Rage. His mother Sylvia working 16-hour days cleaning for whoever would hire her to provide for the two of them, hardly spent any time at home at all. Consequently, Ryan grew up on the streets of the Elven slum. He would have stayed there, living and dying in obscurity if it wasn't for the Ancients mage, Flick, who discovered his potential for magic early in Ryan's 9th year. Flick proceeded to act as his guardian, especially after Sylvia died in the fall of 2051, seeing to his schooling and even acquiring a legitimate SIN for the young mage. Ryan eventually enrolled at the University of Washington (U-Dub], where he pursued a curriculum of law as well as thaumaturgy. It was through Flick that Ryan met up with Dr. Linda Modine, who's Bellevue clinical services have come in handy on several occasions. While he was at U-Dub, Ryan was inducted into the Ancients, and learned of the various schisms inside the Elven gang. Flick arranged for Ryan to spend time in Tir Tairngire, learning about the Elven ways and traditions, as well as furthering his education, both mundane and magical. While he was there, Ryan discovered he felt an affinity for the people of the Tir, and was appalled at the political situation and how it affected their way of life. He met several influential friends of the Ancients, liaisons of a sort for the faction of the Ancients that is closely allied with the Elven government. He also met with representatives of those who would bring the tyrannical rulers down, Rinelle ke'Tesrae. This went a long way in furthering his own opinion of the need for the Ancients to step up their efforts against the ruling class of the Tir. This opinion was, and still is somewhat contentious amongst the Ancients in general, and so Ryan keeps his true loyalties close to his chest, revealing them only when he is sure that the reaction will be positive. During his second year at the university, he came into contact with a new professor, one Dr. Steven Knox. Dr. Knox was troubled at first by the thought of Ryan sacrificing some of his magical potential with the Bio-Implants, but soon the formed a bond in their enthusiasm for Magic. Knox arranged a meeting with the reclusive Talismonger, Sasha Harris, to whom Ryan immediately took a shine. While technically a full member of the Ancients, over time Flick had managed to help distance Ryan from the mainstream, but things changed one day when Ryan, his cover was almost blown while attempting to further his semi-private anti-Tir agenda. It was thought best if he put even more distance between himself and the Ancients, and especially Tir Tairngire, this time geographically as well as figuratively, and with Flick's help he abruptly relocated to the Denver sprawl. Totally cut off from his previous life and all his contacts, Ryan adopted the street name Gypsy, and in almost no time ended up on the payroll of the biggest player in town. Ryan O'Shea is short for an Elf, standing barely over 6 foot in height, though he does have the typical Elven figure, a thin, wiry frame. He usually keeps his long golden blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail, and has piercing lavender eyes that some people take for cyber at first glance, before noticing the sparkle of life that would otherwise be absent from replacements. Ryan's taste in clothing tends towards trendy street attire, but he appears equally at ease dressed in conservative corporate fashion. His spell selection reflects his experiences as a youth on the streets of Tarislar as well as his time spent at university, and is not necessarily geared towards combat. Especially if your parents never had one. And you where born in the back of a VW van. On the side of I-191. Somewhere between Tucson and Phoenix. Not that it mattered to the caravan of freelance vagabonds that Tevos calls his extended family. It was a birth, and a good reason to party. Youth was spent enjoying life on the road, ducking patrols in Pueblo CC, learning some trade, learning his culture, and talking to his imaginary friends. Which one day decided to stop being imaginary. Being the first awakened child in a camp was something that had both its up and its down sides. To his annoyance, people where always asking him to cast a spell, which he never figured out. His real solace was suddenly being able to actually talk to the wind, the earth, and the water. The _______ eventually decided that while little Tev was an asset, after a falling out with a wind sprit, he was a liability as well. A questionable arrangement was made with a Sioux settlement that left Tev in their care to learn better control of the sprits around him. This was not the only thing he learned, learning the basics of hunting, first aid, basic survival, and some of the more grey concepts involving territorial borders. Apparently, he was a star pupil, as it was only seven short years before he took his first vision quest, spending 3 days alone with just the Fox to guide him. He took his leave of the tribe shortly after, due to political problems. After, he wandered for a few years, picking up some skill in slight of hand, and as he would later find out, becoming a half decent thief in his own right. After lifting a briefcase that 'fell off the back of a truck' and finding it containing cash, a gun, and a letter addressed to "the thief" containing contact information for an Elf needing someone with light fingers, Tev was introduce to Twitch. One of the skills Tev took to was hand-cracking safes. According to him, it was the same type of calm that you need to control the sprits, but a little more manual. One particularly un-successful job near a reactor forced Tev to take to flight and to learn how to shoot back with something a little less obvious then the scatter guns he was used to, especially when the sprits decided that they didn’t want to show. A few inquiries and he was put in touch with someone who was rumored to have taught a troll known as Wedge (god rest his soul) how to fire an assault rifle. Tev tried out different styles, finally finding a lighter weight Russian automatic to his liking. A further problem with an employer forced Tev to relocate once again, and finding the former state of Colorado to his liking, (added to the easy smuggler access) ended up in Denver. Sketch: Tev is generally a nice guy, until you cross him, at which point the gloves come off and it gets ended usually right there, however getting Tev to that point takes some serious effort. Some people have called him a little loose in the head; he calls it talking to the sprits (which he does quite often, with mixed reactions from the sprits themselves). Dogs though, let’s leave it at a bad experience. While his immediate family doesn’t know that he’s has effectively become a successful career criminal, he keeps in touch either directly, or via a network of annoying psudo-relatives.

A friend from school, Ana and Karl made nighttime runs on campus, breaking into campus facilities to set up elaborate pranks and cause general mischief. Karl is a year from graduating… still. He’s a perennial student. Ana has him keeping an ear to the ground for news of her uncle. Dr. Cook, Street Doc/Shadow Shrink, specializes in post-traumatic stress counseling and rehabilitation. He travels from town to town in an inconspicuous, but ridiculously well-appointed, RV. This is the doctor that counseled Ana after the explosion and performed most of Ana’s rehabilitative surgeries. Background: Running in the shadows is a family business. At a young age Ana and her older brother Andy were sent to live with their 'more settled' Uncle Frank. Frank moved them around a lot. It was in Ana’s early teens that the family, her brother and uncle anyway, moved to central Texas. Steeped in the shadows, an eager to please kid, Ana couldn’t wait to start doing runs with her uncle and older brother. Without the knowledge or consent of her uncle, Ana tagged along on a couple of ‘easy’ jobs with her brother. One of them nearly got them both killed – a simple courier gig that went horribly wrong when the convoy trapsed over a corner of Azzie controlled territory. Andy barely got Ana back to safety in time to save her life, and not soon enough to save her arms. An explosion during the attack had blown them both clean off. Her brother is still wracked with guilt over the incident. Uncle Frank spared no expense rehabilitating his niece with the best cyber- and psychotherapy nuyen could buy - Dr. Cook. She still finds herself terrified of explosives, even simple fireworks - and explosions, explosions can render her a mute, terrified and useless bundle of nerves – but she enjoys tinkering with her heavily modified cyberarms. And she really enjoys what her gear allows her to do – sneak, sabotage and scout. Bankrolled by questionable funds, Ana took a break from the biz, to enroll at Texas A&M&M. She studied half a dozen subjects from Architecture to Gymnastics, and Chemistry to Engineering. She threw herself into her studies and school, though she never graduated or really even came close to following a degree plan. When Andy came to her with the news that he had tracked down one of their siblings, she was really excited... they were not prepared for that sibling to be Ana’s identical twin. The three had a tearful reunion in Liana’s hometown. And now all those vague memories of Ana’s imaginary ‘mirror friend’ make so much more sense. Uncle Frank sent a message to Andy and Ana (really Leola Faustine Addorlorata Fichetti) telling them to stay in Denver, that he’d join them there soon. He never showed up. That was over a year ago. Ana has done some work with a tight-knit group that Liana has been running with. They’re a polished and dangerous team and Ana respects them a lot and realizes that these folks are the real deal… not two-bit smugglers or thieves.

Neophyte Runner Group: Members Posts: 2,222 Joined: 11-October 02 From: Netherlands and Belgium Member No.: 3,437	It's weekend, that means no IC post from me, but you do get a Karma post from me weekly. ;) On average everyone should receive 1 to 3 karma from me, however since this week not only have we had a great kick-off with some rivoting posts by nearly everyone, in addition to me not rewarding for the IC/OOC thread, I'm giving everyone 5 karma for this week. Wanted to especially thank those of you who made the extra effort to story-tell with nice lengthy posts that made reading the thread in the morning very fun for me. Continued posting like those will guarantee at least 2 karma per week. Karma Spending: I don't use the Optional Training rules. Spend the karma as you wish (though I suppose for most of you, that could be much later... :P). Karma and skill/attribute raising to me means not only what you learn, and practiced, but also things you may have always known, and just chosen now to use. Example being that a character may go from 0 to 5 in a Pistol skill (assuming they actually had that much karma saved up) and play it off as either always having had the skill, just having refused to pick up a gun, or maybe just finding out they're a "Natural". So don't ask if you can spend karma on something. EXCEPTION: Spells. You must stick to the rules for learning (That is Canon, it is not an "optional" rule in Shadowrun). That means dice rolls to learn spells. It's the only way to justify them being so freaking cheap (especially since nobody had spell formulas in their character sheet). :P Sphynx

Next game, karma will be rewarded differently (again). Only 1 karma for 5 seperate-day postings. All other karma comes purely from storytelling. This means less karma overall (unless we see some killer postings), but I've reached my goal of a good karmic start. Next week look for the thread Return into Darkness Yep, you're headed back to the past. ;) But you have time to learn some local-time skills, and trade karma for cash (ROLEPLAY the exchange, 1 karma = 20,000), and pick up some gear. Try to do it lightly (no mass ammunition purchases :P), because you're not actually preparing IC to return to the past. Good chance to pick up some spell formulas, foci, fetishes, weapons, armours, etc.
