No you didn't miss anything, I was just thinking through some things and after rereading wards section, I notice that wards in SR4 no longer alert the creator when penetrated. This has some implications that are different from SR3 and SR4, and I just want to check if this is right.

Our target is after all a Talismonger shop. Some magic may be involved.

QUOTE (SR4 p. 185)
Mana barriers do not affect their creators, who can see through them or pass through them at will and allow others to do so as well. Any attack on a mana barrier or attempt to break through is immediately felt by the creator.

Aha, missed that! Thanks. I was reading on wards instead of checking the mana barriers.

anyone need anything from me?

Data searches? Knowledge rolls?
Crystalmonkey
Well we're still in the building, but when we leave (to do legwork) I'll need a datasearch for anything on the store, Old Flame Dancing, Joshua, and the Keepers of Life.

All rolls are Data Search (4) + Browse (6) = 10 Dice

Isn't creating a ward simply a Magic + Willpower test? Teamwork rules can be applied as well?
Rokur
will post what i need when we start actions. But, I'm not knowledgeable.. and not a hacker. nyahnyah.gif

QUOTE (DireRadiant)

Kinda.
QUOTE (p. 185)
The warding ritual takes a number of hours equal to the Force of the ward and requires no special materials.  At the end of the ritual, make a Magic + Willpower Test (if more than one character is helping to create the ward, use the rules for teamwork, p. 59).  The hits scored determine the number of weeks the ward lasts before dissolving.

So the ward appears no matter what at the end of the ritual at the force level you chose. The Magic + willpower test only determines how long it stays, and no matter how long it lasts you get the same amount of drain equal to the force you chose. This leads to my question.
QUOTE (p. 185)
Creating wards is a draining task.  Each participant suffers Drain equal to the ward's Force.

Do you get a chance to resist the drain?

Warrior, is the comment in the IC thread about not being able to create wards a role playing decision?
BishopMcQ
Ginger--Slight clarification, you need at least one hit on the warding test for it to appear. You can resist drain per normal. Note: if the force of the ward is higher than your magic attribute, it is physical drain.
BishopMcQ
Crystal--Are you going to run the data searches now from Krum's place?
Remember that your programs are capped by the system that they are running on (IE your commlink)
DireRadiant
What would be the SOP for stealing a vehicle? Or the kind of skill tests we would need to do?
Rokur
That depends on how u plan on stealing it eek.gif
BishopMcQ
Dire--tell me what kind of car, where, and how you plan to do it. Then I'l list out the rolls. Doing a smash and grab with a crowbar and hotwire is going to be different than walking up, spoofing a lock, dumping the system and replacing it with your own pilot/agent/sprite.
DireRadiant
So, for Des, who would struggle wielding a crowbar, spoofing, dumping the system and installing his own agent seems the way to go. The goal though would be able to run the vehicle without needing his agent running it, I think this means just re assigning the codes for controling it. The matter of the vehicle spoofing it's own id when queried needs to be taken into account as well. Be one thing to get control of the vehicle but having it easy enough to find if someone searches for it. So a cheap fake vehicle registration seems like a good idea as well.
DireRadiant
Thinking through this. It appears for most cases Exploit and Spoof are the key hacking programs. While Des could eavesdrop on someone opening up their vehicle and get the codes that way, you'd still need the Spoof program to impersonate the user to gain access. Brute force and Probing also requrie Exploit. So since des doesn't have that software, restricted to actually commanding the stolen vehicles.
Crystalmonkey
I'm going to run the search from my own place, when we all split up to do legwork and whatnot.

If that doesn't happen, then I'll do it from Krums.

I'm aware of the limit, but note the fact that my System is 6, which is the thing that limits the programs.
BishopMcQ
Crystal--The front page of your character sheet has your System at 4. I kept searching and found the upgrade you purchased.
warrior_allanon
actually i honestly thought that adepts unless they were physical mages could not set wards. Thats the way it was in 3ed and i'm not completely used to 4ed yet. That being said, i'm gonna take it as a RP point, quite simply because my character knows nothing about creating wards.

as for stealing a van, what i was thinking was once we spotted the van we wanted, have kevin spoof its locks so that the doors unlock and then run up and shove a pistol in the drivers face. This done of course while suitably masked of course.
BishopMcQ
Re: Wards--Under 3rd ed, the adept had to be able to astrally perceive, which I believe is still a req under 4th edition but I will have to check.

RE: Stealing a car--Post something IC let me know where you are headed and what type of car you want and we'll go from there.

I'm curious on this point as well
DireRadiant
p 185.

"Wards are a temporary form of dual-natured mana barrier
that can be created by any Awakened being with astral perception
(including spirits and adepts with the Astral Perception
power)."

So Des can't create a ward himself.

Can spirit do it as a service? I wonder if you could do it either the Physical service, or a Remote Service?
Rokur
well, apparently i can ward up to 300 square feet. (and buy 2 weeks of successes if allowed)

I'm making a edit in my IC post to reflect. wasn't sure what the rules were when i posted, but good to know now.

No worries, I figured there was something wrong.

Not sure why the page does that, but I am looking around at Char Sheets.
Crystalmonkey
On second thought, I'll do my search from his appartment, as it seems we aren't splitting up yet.
BishopMcQ
Crystal--
Your searches take 30 minutes total.

Store Security:
There's not a lot of information available here. It's minimal Matrix presence is basically just a list of store hours, special events etc. There is an invoice that was "liberated" from a security firm by the Alliance for Information Freedom (Hacker group for free distribution of all knowledge). It appears that a state of the art maglock was placed on the outside door about 3 years ago.

Old Flame Dancing:
Very little is known about Old Flame Dancing on the matrix. She runs a talismonger shop up in Everett and is purely legitimate--no SIN, no purchase. Shadow boards say to keep clear of her.

Joshua Walks-with-Ghosts:
Former-Wildcat and retired Shadowrunner, Joshua specializes in paranormal threats (Insect spirits, corrupted mages etc.) He now lives "on the reservation" way out in Snohomish. He drives a beat up jeep and is known to be an active member of the Keepers of Life, which he joined after leaving the Wildcats.

Keepers of Life:
Sioux-initiatory group with a strong prejudice against those who willingly end life. Most of the records about the group revolve strangely enough around a non-Sioux woman named Temple.

Several years ago there was an evangelist Unicorn Shaman (Temple) who was subjected to a lot of ridicule. She was apparently a member of the group and was forced to atone for some kind of life-debt. There was speculation that she was involved in some kind of massacre outside Fairlight Enterprises which resulted in the death of several dozen Lonestar officers. Interestingly, there was no evidence that she ever took a hostile action against the cops.
BishopMcQ
Because there have been several plans thrown around, can I get a more precise breakdown of where people are headed and who is in what groups.
Rokur
As of now, I'm gonna be alone it seems. I'll tell you what I do IC when everyone leaves my apartment biggrin.gif
DireRadiant
Des hasn't had anyone asking him to join them, so he's going to wait and see if Hunter wants him along on the scouting the routes. Otherwise Des is planning on using the drones to run some serveillance onthe shop and delivery point, and doing some route familiarization.

Also thinking of getting a camera with low light or thermo to equip the micro skimmer with. Would buying one and attaching it to the drone require any rolls? Possibly on the avoiding leaving a data trail bit?
GingerKid
JuJu is heading home alone to astrally project and scout out the shop.
Rokur
Just for the sake to get things moving again. I'm gonna take actions as though everyone had left my apartment. If wished, i will delete post until after everyone leaves.
BishopMcQ
Alright folks, there are 7 players in this team and only 3 of you have actually responded. Let me know what you're doing.
Bearclaw
Hunter is going to ride from here to downtown, just to shake any possible tails, then head to the pickup point, drive around the block, and take the fastest, most free way using route from there to the dropoff. Take a couple of loops around there, and then head off to Payalup.
He's going to go by The Blue Door, a local dive, and Underworld 93, looking for Hutch, so he can pick his brain about the Keepers, Old Flame, and Joshua, as well as just anything shaking in the magical underground.

When that's done, he'll pop up a map on his comm link, and chart out a couple of alternate routes, and since it wasn't discussed, a couple of rally points, just in case. Then, he'll be back on the road, driving the alternate routes and generally getting a feel for the areas the have to go through.
Crystalmonkey
I'm following Wolfgar
warrior_allanon
which means me and Crystal monkey are going to check out the security on the shop first hand and afterwards "aquire" a suitable van.
GingerKid
Just to clarify JuJu's magical lodge is in his study, and he is projecting from within his lodge.
BishopMcQ
Ginger--Give me an Int+Log test to find the shop since you've never been there physically.

Rokur--If you are going to be buying drugs, give me an Etiquette (Street/Drug Specialties apply) test with Loyalty as a positive pool modifer.

Warrior--What part of town are you going to in order to steal a car?

Warrior/Crystal--I need Perception test (Visual) from you for the drive by of the shop.

Dire--If you don't want that camera to be a legal purchase on your SIN, and thus leave a data trail, you will have to purchase it through a fixer or appropriate tech contact. I need a name and some etiquette dice thrown. For the surveillance, give me a Sensor Perception test from the drones.

Bearclaw--Give me some Etiquette (Loyalty is a positive modifier) for Hutch and talking with him. Throw me some perception dice for the Pickup and delivery zones.

Once I get some dice, I'll start bumping people along.
Crystalmonkey
Perception (3) + Intuition (3) = 7

1626453 n1=1 n6=2 nHit=3
warrior_allanon
Perception (3) + Intuition (4) =7 (this is astral perception)
1235566 =4 successes

Perception (3) + Intuition (4) =7
3445666 =4 successes
Bearclaw
Street Etiquette = 11 dice (5 skill + 3 cha +3 loyalty) = 4 successes

Perception @ pickup point = 5 dice (2 skill + 3 Intuition) = 1 success

Perception @ dropoff point = 5 dice = 2 successes
GingerKid
Int + Log = 9 dice
5,4,3,1,4,6,1,5,1 -> 3 successes 3 ones

And a astral perception test if I find the place.

Perception + Int = 5 dice
3,3,4,3,5 -> 1 success 0 ones
Rokur
I wanted to visit Manny, but I was using the "buying drugs" as a way of getting in and talking to him. If you wanted to know my "plan" was to see if he was willing to smoke some with Krum, and maybe talk a bit.

Roll: Not quite sure why ettiquette, saying i'm not trying to "blend in" anywhere, but, Etiquette (defaulting to CHA) plus loyalty = 3
Roll: 2,4,5 1 hit

Social Modifiers unsure of which to apply = friendly/hostility (assuming friendly = +2), Char's desired result is advantageous to NPC would be +1,

Ettiquette modifiers unsure - attire/look - assume =0, subject distracted?

or Negotiation Modifiers: Char has blackmail info = +2 (saying he's sold Krum drugs before... should be plenty of blackmail)

Crystalmonkey
Wouldn't Krum have to admit that he was doing drugs in order for that to work? (I don't know if it's illegal in the future, but if you are involved with the blackmail, it doesn't work as well...)
BishopMcQ
Rokur--Etiquette is the skill you use to get people in the mood to talk to you without insulting them. If you are going to blackmail him, then you are looking more at intimidate.
Rokur
Krum will play nice at first, thus ettiquette first, then negotiation 2nd, then intimidate 3rd.
Crystalmonkey
I'm going to do a simple scan to see if any networks are coming from the store. (If I don't detect anything, then I'll make the rolls for checking for hidden nodes)
GingerKid
I'm doing assensing on the ward trying to find out all I can about it, with how strong it is being a top priority.

Assensing + Intuition = 8 dice
4,2,5,5,5,3,2,5 -> 4 successes 0 ones

I will also spend 2 hours trying to track whoever set the ward.
Assensing + Intuition = 8 dice (1 hour interval)
4,3,5,1,6,1,2,1 -> 2 successes 3 ones
4,5,4,5,4,5,5,1 -> 4 successes 1 one

BishopMcQ
Crystal--Throw them bones...
Crystalmonkey
Rolling Cracking Skill Group (4) + Scan (6) = 10 Dice

#D=10 : 1332156364 n1=2 n6=2 nHit=3

How many rolls should I be making? Just the one?
BishopMcQ
Just the one for the initial scan.

You do not detect any active nodes from the building. There is an active node on the road within your detection.
