Right now Roc is walking back to his appartment. He is carring no weapons (except his fists). The only gear he is carring right now is his comlink and the armored jacket he is wearing. All his other gear is back at the apartment.

I dont really wanna point fingers at people and say good job cuz it makes everybody else feel like crap or will make me have to lie and tell everyone what a good job their doing but i will agree with everyone else and say that i enjoyed your opening to Jack hehe. Can i steal the concept ? hehe. I wish i would have thought of having a meeting with one of my contacts as an opener.
It would be really kool if it was a meeting that involved getting some of the gear you have or something for your beginning character. Like you just saved up enough money to finally get it.
Sorry if anyone does not like my second post. I was just bored and wanted to play with my chick a little. Its good practice. By the time i got to the end and i was moving things i was like wait, where the hell DID i lay those items?? Guess they just magically disappeared for ahwile lol.
I could probably go back and flesh out the apartment to....I think there is probably a balance between not enough detail and to much detail?
I wish there was a shadowrun supplement that goes over common technology and gives you examples of how to describe it. I wanted to lock my apartment door with my commlink or press my hand against a pad to do it but i was like no that would suck ass those could be hacked in a nano.

Alright folks, can you all reply and let me know your most common method of getting shadow work? If you would like to RP your character initiating contact, the post it and wait for a response
Otherwise, let me know the circumstances in OOC and I'll post that as well.

Jul 31 2006, 04:27 PM
I hand out gigantic search lights to all my contacts and when they need to get in touch with me they turn it on and giant letters form in the sky and say "Die"......
My contacts usually just message me and tell me to come see them.
Hmm I thought of something really funny and awesome i wanna use for my job alert from my contact.
Give me this stuff OOC.
-pick one of my contacts or tell me to choose
-location and time for johnson meet
-info about what the contact knows about the johnson
-how safe the meet will be.
That will let me post IC up to the point of me walking into the same room/building as Mr J. You should probably tell me where to stop, either the parking lot, the front door, the final door to the room the johnson is in. And then you can RP my character meeting and being introduced to the johnson.
Blitz
Jul 31 2006, 04:31 PM
Abbandon, I am not asking how you want the meeting to go, I just want to know who your regular job fixer is and if there are any unusual circumstances on how they normally contact you.
For example, My character Blitz would say that she normally gets her work through Fury who sends her an encrypted text message telling her to come to the Chainstorm tonight. I would then get any details when meeting Fury that night.
Fairly simple rundown.
Buddha72
Jul 31 2006, 04:36 PM
At this point
Shensahti would get any shadow work relayed through
Crimson who is his only fixer at the moment being all new and stuff.

Jul 31 2006, 04:45 PM
Oh. I guess my Fixer Felix will be able to find me work the most often. Although i dont really like just using one of my contacts. Whats the point of having a net of people if only one of them is giving you jobs!. Just pick mine randomly if you want or use felix.
Blitz
Jul 31 2006, 04:57 PM
Well, in general, my characters have contacts for various purposes. A talismonger is great for getting magical goods or asking questions of awakened issues, but wouldn't be able to get me the new model Ares Predator or hook me up with Mr. J looking for bodyguard work.
Where as my armorer is great at procuring illegal goods of the violent type, but I wouldn't usually wanna get a job through him unless it was an unusual circumstance.
Then I have a fixer who's got their ear to the ground for work, has connections with the corps and is the go between. Usually knows what jobs are up my alley. Sometimes they have connections for gear or information, but are usually only good for basic equipment or general information.
It's good to have multiple contacts, but if they are redunant, you are usually wasting your money/points and effort to maintain that connection.

It's a mix as far as Johnny's jobs go. He's a self starter (picks his own places to rob) and gets offers from all his contacts, but a real shadowrun most likely his Fixer Marcus.

Tad has been trying to get into searching underground bulletin boards for his own work, but he's not any good at it yet.
All the work he's had so far has come through Ezekiel Smithers, the Mafia-connected ork fixer operating out of Crusher 495 in Redmond. (Described in my contacts I sent you.)
Tad hasn't had any real 'shadowrun' jobs yet. Just the sort of shadow mediator stuff I have already mentioned - but he has been pushing Ezekiel to find him some meatier work.

Ok im outside the club trying to get in. I thought maybe you would like to walk my character from the front to the johnson so you could describe the club and stuff.
If not i'd like to know how rough this club is, are there humans and metahumans or is there a dominant type among the clubbers. Any descriptors you'd like me to use.
Would the bouncer tell me where Mac is or would he pass me off to one of the other employee's.

Let me give you a description of The Underground so you can post more accurately.
It's located in a more industrial area of downtown and from the main street, there are no visible entrances. Along the southern end, there is a staircase leading down almost two flights to a big set of double black doors. There is no line, only one very large troll in a wrinkled suit and dark shades. Go ahead and post (or modify) your post for the door and depending on your timing, I'll post a reply showing what happens when you ask for Mack
Abbandon

Here the modified part of the end of my post for easy referense:
[ Spoiler ]
She pulls out of club Rain and makes her way to the red blip. By the time she arrives its 7:50pm. Driving around the green blip looking for a way to pull into the parking lot she noticed that the side of the building facing the street was unexpectedly blank. No big flashy signs, no big flashy doors, heck no line line of people waiting to get in. The entrance must be facing the parking lot she thought. As she found the parking lot entrance and pulls in there doesnt seem to be alot of vehichles either. She picks a parking stall and jumps out locking the car behind her.
Looking at the building all she sees is what looks like a tunnel leading down so she walks over to it. Sure enough its a wide set of stairs going down what looks like two floors and then running into a set of double doors with a big "nicely" dressed troll standing outside. This place looks like a death trap. What if there was a fire inside.
She takes a deep breathe and then starts to descend the stairs. Its an uneasy descent as the troll never takes his eyes off of her. Oh great i hope he isnt one of those mentally messed up metahumans who hate elves for being beautiful. She is finally at the bottom of the stairs and out of the trolls reach as she looks around. "Is..is this The Underground club?? Im looking for an associate named Mac?"

Just a reminder to make sure the time is included in your post. Makes it SO much easier for me (and you) to coordinate what action is happening when.

Blitz, 2 questions:
First, would this club have been reviewed, or advertised that it'd be on the matrix?
Second, if it is may i have the type of club it is? (Dance/club,Industrial,Metal, etc.)
I'll need it to complete my partial post.
Blitz
Aug 2 2006, 06:29 PM
Certianly. The information you are able to find lists the place as mostly a bar, with occasional nightly entertainment. Most nights the music and ambiance is more geared towards industrial music, though this isn't your typical "dance" club. It's the type of place a hard man goes to drink and talk with other hard men. However, the reason it made the list of notables was due to a weekly music act on Fridays. The unusual part is that the music is a blues singer known as Moira, the reviews of her act speak of her haunting melodies and the depth of compassionate comfort her sad songs bring to those who listen. It's debated heavily in the comments as to why this singer limits herself at such an uncharacteristic place.
There are also a few hits on your search about lone star responses to disturbances at the club. Apparantly it has been known to get mildly violent at times.

Blitz, quick breakdown on the sensors:
[ Spoiler ]
Visual sensors (camera) I assume just augments my own perception tests with lowlight, Vision mag, and vision enhancement.
Atmospheric sensor is basically just a constant, up to the minute weather forecast.
Cyberware scanner is sensor + Perception (8 dice pool). I'm assuming I'll basically just buy 2 hits at all times, unless I'm specifically taking the time to roll on something. So, I'd automatically get the base for standard cyberware and weapons, and the second threshold for more information about cyberware and weapons + alphaware and other items (Pg. 254) within 15 meters.
Directional microphone means I can basically focus in on any conversation within 100 meters.
Gieger counter is just any radioactivity around it.
Laser range finder gives me exact distance to anything I'm focusing on.
MAD scanner gives me sensor + perception (5 dice pool), and I'll just constantly buy 1 hit unless I'm looking for more information. Basically, I know about any metal weapons within 5 meters.
Motion sensor gives me a location on anything within 5 meters that isn't moving at 1/2 meter per combat turn and getting 3 successes on an Infiltration + Agility test.
Olfactory Sensor gives me any ammuniction or explosives in my area (8 dice pool, buying two hits) unless they're hermetically sealed.
Radio signal scanner basically gives me the presence of all active and passive wireless nodes in my area (which is 10km).
The microphone with the select sound filter allows me to pinpoint sounds within the range and filter out anything but that, and record it if I like. The audio enhancement basically gives me 3 extra dice on listening based Perception tests.
I'm assuming for all of these that since they're implanted into my body and I am my own commlink that they work like sensors on a drone (sensor + perception).

All of these are available in RFID tags (pg. 325)
Basically, I've just implanted the RFID tags in the palms of my hands (tags can be implanted under the skin at no Essence cost (pg. 319). The RFID tags transmit data (pg. 318), and can be read by anyone with a commlink (pg. 318.) with a signal rating of 1, and I am my own commlink

Game stuff:
-Time passage note. I am only allowing 5 minutes total for my bartender scene. When i make it over to Mack and Roc it will be 7:55.
-visual and sound preception tests. Im just looking around trying to get the vibe of the place i guess so i can fit in better.
intuition 4 + perception 4(5) + 3 visual/sound = 12 dice.
1,4,6,3,4,1,5,3,2,4,2,2 = 2 hits...
-In general i wanna be able to affect others mood towards me. How do you want to handle that. Should i have to pass some social test for you to tell me that the individual will respond well to insults or charm or intimidation. Or do you tell me the type of communication they will respond to and then i make a roll to see how effective i am? Or should i make a perception roll to see if she can figure out what would make a person respond well to her? If the bartender gives me attitude about my drink for example would he respect me more if i insult him?
perception to find correct attitude to use on bartender:
intuition 4 + perception 4(5) +3 sight/sound= 12 dice.
3,3,4,3,2,4,1,2,6,5,4,6 = 3 hits
social test to try see how effective my attitude is:
Charisma 6 + etiquette 4(6) = 12 dice.
6,1,3,2,3,1,2,5,2,1,4,4 = 2 hits
-do you not want me using my social skills at all since Adamu is the face? Just to clarify i know adamu is suppose to be the leader and does all the talking for the group but i didnt know if it was kool if i just use my social skills to do other things that are non mission critical.

So, what is my perception penalty?
Blitz

Blitz
Aug 7 2006, 09:00 PM
Abbandon: This is an area Im always a little iffy on. On one hand, I understand that by paying points when generating your character, you are buying the right to be viewed a certian way as far as competence goes, however I am the type of GM that prefers Role Playing rather than Roll playing. What I do not want are players rolling dice in order to be told how to play their character. The skills and rolls you have are to handle the randomness in the world, not dictate your characters actions. If you are trying to read a situation, a perception check is fine for me to give you the outward appearance of things but don't expect to get the kind of information an assensing would give to a mage. Additionally, you have to make your own choices regarding your actions and attitudes as those will greatly affect the way others treat your character. You could have a silver tongue, but if you show up dressed like a go ganger at a concert hall, no amount of sweet talking will get people to respect you. Does that make sense?
Your perception of the room is that this is a down and out bar for down and out folk. The men look mean, rough and surly. They drink hard liquor or the house brew that might as well be. They look at you like meat, not a person.
The bartender is a huge, hard looking troll who scowls slightly showing you his distaste for your kind, but represses his opinion as his business relies heavily on others being able to conduct business here.
Your etiquette check ensures you dont insult him, but you don't really make much progress in wiping that scowl off his face.
Blitz

Might have missed it Jack, but not sure what penalty you think applies. Unless you're doing anything unusual, just roll it standard.
