I think it makes more sense for a physad to be a sniper than a melee specialist because they're less resistant to the effects of deadly damage than a sammie would be. Furthermore, Improved Ability plus a smartlink really is the way to go. Sometimes you just gotta be able to ask the GM with a straight face whether or not the enemy's head exploded, and if so who the brains splattered on.

Well I did toy with the idea, but at the time it wasnt worth it. I wound up loosing a full point of essence from that forced uppon me cyberarm though, and last I'd played the char I'd been working towards upgrading the cyberarm to a high enough grade that I coudl squeek in a smartlink.
Cause that would just be nasty, and horribly twinkish, Smartlink 2 + range finder +vision mods +Adept Ranged Combat Centering + Aiming
In the end the only thing that really stoped me was a lack of money, as I could have easily pulled it off using betaware.
As to the OP on quotes however, alas as much as I've been wracking my brain. I cant seem to bring to mind anything actually funny |
I think I'd have opted for a cloned limb and having a 1 point essence hole to work with. A Smartlink 2 and a cloned limb could be gotten for about the cost of selling the used cyberlimb.
Cyberlimb - 100,000 - 1 Essence
Base Price of used Cyberlimb - 30,000
Cloned limb - 25,000
Smartlink 2 - 3500 - .5 Essence
Rangefinder - 2000 - .1 Essence
Essence hole for cybereyes and vision mods.

Keep in mind the cyberlimb was NOT of my choosing.
I wanted a cloned limb.
I woke up with a cyberlimb.
I promptly went to give hell to my fixer because I'd specifically requested a cloned replacement.
I suppose though, that I -could- have paid for a cloned replacement and then had the cyber limb removed, sold off and used the money to buy cyberware I actually wanted.

IIRC, a cyber limb has "free" space inside of it for other enhancements such as a smartlink, spurs, or cyberguns.

Well that was one of the reasons I was thinking of just upgrading it. I could put most of the essence from teh smartlink into it, and put in a bunch of other toys.
