So, since the timing of the bombing attack is up to you ROM, I'm just going to roll it up and let you say when.

If the guys from the van go into the building instead of the other way around, I'd want to shoot open some windows and try and and put the bang-bangs inside the place.

Command 6 + 1 skill +2 hotsim +2 codeslinger = 11d6.hits(5) → [4,2,4,1,2,1,4,3,4,3,2] = (0) oh for fuck's sake.
Spending edge for rerolls. 11d6.hits(5) → [5,5,6,2,2,3,3,2,3,3,1] = (3) this shit is filthy with ones and twos.

Hello everyone. Excuse me for interrupting. Is this the correct thread to introduce myself as a prospective player?

I'm an old table top shadowrunner from long ago. I am very much a noob in cyberspace but nowadays I am online with lots of time. Nice to meet you, cool game you have here. smile.gif

If you give me an Ok I will start developing a character for your consideration. Thanks.

hi ytzk, this is the spot alright. Just put a character together, and I'll get you on the waiting list. The two people on the list now haven't responded the last two times someone died, so you are pretty much next in line. All the rules for this game are in the first two posts OOC.

@ Jovan: You still have a service for the air elemental. I tried to word it to say as much too. As far as the assensing, I don't know, The watcher can assense right? I don't know if your mental link can get a sense of the aura or not. I would roll an assensing for the watcher, then maybe you could try to use your assensing like a knowledge skill to interpret?

If you insist, but rolling anything for watchers makes me sad. frown.gif

Assensing 1 + Intuition 1 = 2d6 = OMG 2 HITS

Jovan's roll:
Assensing 2 + Intuition 6 = 8d6 = 1 hit question.gif

Not sure how you want to handle that...

@ Seph: well, you know he is awakened with no cyberware. He is healthy and his emotional state is calm and serious.

@ Saint: scatter, I'll give you a -2 on scatter for the extra math and such. so Scatter=3 meters. Which puts you dead on. Lets see, 20 grenades at 10 P each..... is a textbook example of overkill..
I'll post shortly
pbangarth
There is no such thing as overkill.

True, I'll call it death without the need for math
ytzk
Great, thanks a lot. I'll need to read up on the rules and do the maths, but I aim to be poised on the sidelines within two weeks. A need to sign off now, though, because of local thunderstorms looming. Looking forward to playing with you all.

I just wanted to drop half the nades. I figure since the kull has 2 cargo pods, 10 nades per pod seems like a fair amount. Ya know... never mind. For an autokill, 20 is fine. Nothing exceeds like excess. wink.gif

Though, now with the new rules for explosive overlap from War, instead of every blast stacking, you take the largest blast and add half the value of each additional blast. Still overkill, but it probably puts the attack at less than 80P or so. biggrin.gif
pbangarth
How is War? Is it worth getting? (Not like I can afford it now, but, hey.)
Red-ROM
yea, I'm not allowed to buy anymore books until after xmas
ytzk
Edited: Okay, I'm building the character sheet up slowly, and I'll just keep adding to this post as I figure it out. Please let me know if there's any problems. Thanks!

Haven't bought it, and I might not, given the reviews and the general "not in my game" sentiment that's hanging about it. I just got the cliff's notes from the main DS thread about it.

Anyway, trying a First Aid roll.
Should be 16 dice with Professor as a skilled assistant. I think hits are capped at 4 by my skill.
16d6.hits(5) → [4,3,2,1,1,1,2,6,3,6,2,2,4,2,4,3] = (2)
I don't know if this is because vis cast hates me or Acme... Is it worth my last edge of the day to heal Acme of a maximum of 4 stun? Shit. If we meet up at the crash site, I can give you a R6 stim to tide you over for an hour..
pbangarth
From Acme's data sheet, I think I recall that he has stim patches.

Thanks for the head's up. It's nice to be on the team.

Question - ought Amber to have any clue what a "Mome" is? Is it the archaic usage that he's applying there, which she would almost certainly have to research?

I've stopped listening to anything that DS has to say about Shadowrun review-wise, frankly. Half the time people piss on things because they've got an axe to grind with Catalyst or 4th Ed, or a specific writer, or whatever- not about the actual content of the book.

I'll probably pick it up for my own stuff when it comes out, see if it works for myself, and be happier for it.
Red-ROM
I'll probably get it eventually, but it's not usually the kind of game I run. Plus I've just gotten running wild, and haven't read much of it yet, so I'm behind.
The only thing that I've been disapointed with so far was vice city. I felt that there was a lot of stuff that could have been covered there that wasn't.

@ Packer: "Mome" is not a real word(well, it's a "nonsense" word adopted into language due to popular literature, I didn't want to tip my hand too much here and maybe I have). Amber definately wouldn't recognize it, and a "google" search would turn up the same kind of thing your google search does...

I think we're posting steady-ish, but there is a boat load of active games going on
Sephiroth
Sorry for not posting now. I'm currently busy getting ready to leave for a bus and then a train in twenty minutes. If Amtrak trains are wi-fi enabled (I don't remember if they are), I can probably post later today. If not, then don't count on it.

Red-ROM, in regards to Oswald's comment, how do you want to handle astral signatures of spirits, if you want to handle them at all? I'm not aware of any rules for astral signatures caused by critter powers (I'm not even sure it's mentioned anywhere whether they do create astral signatures in the first place).
Red-ROM
wow, things are rolling off page one with a quickness!

@ Jovan: I'll have to look into that. I feel like I read somewhere that their astral signature is tied to their summoner, but I don't know about the critter power bit
pbangarth
It's a poorly defined area. One can assume that a critter power that has an effect based on Force is similar in strength of signature to a spell based on the same Force. As far as I know, nothing in the text actually says so. But if a critter draws mana to do its mojo, surely that mana leaves a trace.
Acme
Ok, this is a pre-roll in case we actually can get an hour or so; I preferred the old rules of knocking down time per box healed, but ah well.

7d6.hits(5) → [3,4,6,5,5,1,1] = (3)

So he can heal 3 boxes if we can get an hour of rest. If not, well according to the rules it's SOL.
Sephiroth
Sithney, I have a clarification question for you since you are much more Matrix-savvy than I. Obviously we can all see Ms. Ball-Bearings' text messages, as they are directed to the Yacht Club VPN. But are Oswald's response messages viewable to the rest of the team via the VPN, or just to him and her?
(btw, did we ever let her know about the Yacht Club VPN? If we didn't, perhaps that is something Jovan in his paranoia should be worried about. I was under the impression that VPN's are not publicly accessible to people who aren't given the original access keys).

@Red-ROM: Were you ever able to come to a conclusion on the power signatures thing? I'm not trying to come off as impatient or anything. It's just that that may be coming up soon, what with LS en route and all.
ytzk
My character stats, version 1.0; note the many question marks around the build points. I'm happy to make any changes if anyone has a suggestion or problem so far. Thanks, and happy holidays, everyone.

Anything that isn't an @team or @vpn would be a private communication, but having everyone reply with the same information would be a waste of text. :-/ I'd say that it would make sense in that regard for such exchanges to be copied over, but from an operations security standpoint, those same exchanges should be erased as soon as they're received. Maybe the standard could be an assumed "I just updated ___ on ____ and ____" to avoid the echo effect.

Yeah, as to the VPN, I don't think she got keys to the network. As to busting a VPN, by the book it requires 1) an Observe in Detail action to notice a person is currently using a VPN, then they have to win an opposed test rolling Computer + Analyze against the target’s Firewall + Stealth. After that it's just a decryption followed by a regular old threshold 3 intercept traffic test with the -2 to the DP every time it needs to be retried. So, yeah, it's not a simple thing. To even know that it's there, someone has to be looking for it while you're using it and then beat your security.

For the signature thing, I don't think Powers leave signatures, but I don't think Oz knows that. He only knows that magic leaves signatures and that spirits are magic.
Red-ROM
Hmm. good point about the VPN, I should have adressed the messages to Oswald I guess. I'm just gettiing sloppy. sorry, I'll edit that

On critter powers. It seems a little unbalanced that critter powers don't have signatures, but the rules don't specify. So no signature on Critter powers, but remember, waht's good for the goose is good for the gander

You may not have too, since IIRC Snow White is so named because of her super-pale skin, and we kinda have someone like that already... devil.gif

Oh my god, this team is turning into a horribly twisted version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. eek.gif

The question marks indicate that I'm mostly guessing the maths. I really don't know about 4th ed. BPs. I don't mind whether I'm a dwarf or not. I don't mind at all if you want me to be human, this was just an old character I dredged up. I intend to spend most of the time in animal shapes, using the shapechange spell, so I don't care which metarace he is. It's just that dwarves fit so neatly into the overhead compartment.
pbangarth
No, No! Stay as you are. I like the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs theme! I'm waiting to see who Red-ROM brings in as the prince.
Saint Sithney
I guess you could count Oswald as Grumpy and Doc stacked together. nyahnyah.gif

Thanks Sithney, for the tutorial, I'll amend that soon. I wanted at least survival 4 because in SR3 that means you can forgo any lifestyle costs. I also intend to get at least one sustaining focus, so we can keep astral barriers up if needed. Apart from the focus and a lodge, I intend to play a character who never needs equipment or cash, hence the survival.

I'll fix the maths and present version 2.0 soon.
Red-ROM
@ ytzk: do you have any sr4 books? It's been a long time now since I played sr3.
edit: SAint hit the high points, gear to consider: commlink, FAke Sin, armor, mundane weapon of some sort, stim patches, survival gear

@Jovan: This is why I'm nit picky on services. otherwise your spirits could just do the whole run for you. I made a bunch of rolls, surprise and initiative, and defense. its in the campaign page on inv cast. I didn't feel like linking all of it. The guy had no chance.

@ Acme: are you using a stim patch?
Acme
@ROM- Not yet, he's just holding it ready. If we can get the full hour, then he'll be better, but he's getting it ready for when it's needed. I didn't say he opened it, just twirling it in his fingers.

Here's the SR4 survival table.

CODE
Wilderness Terrain                 Threshold    Damage Value
Mild (Forest, Plains, Urban)            1            2
Moderate (Foothills, Jungle, Swamp)        2        4
Tough (Desert, High Mountains)              3        6
Extreme (Arctic, Antarctic)                4              8

SITUATION DICE POOL MODIFIER
Camping/Survival gear on hand        +2
No food or water                    -2
Heat/climate control available            +1
Inappropriate clothing/armor            -1 to -4
Extended travel or exertion            -1 to -4
Toxic terrain                        -2 to -4
Weather conditions:
Poor                                -1
Terrible                            -2
Extreme                            -4
Character injured                -Wound Modifier

guh. ipboard has garbage for code implementation.

So, to buy a hit to survive in an Urban or Forest setting like around Seattle, all you need is 4 dice after modifiers.
Pretty easy really. smile.gif With 8 dice, you could survive Seattle winter with no food or water or gear.
Sephiroth
Yay Karma! Thank you Red-ROM!

Indeed. Those were some fairly impressive rolls on the spirit's part, if I do say so myself. Thanks for having it use Edge on one of them, if I interpret that largest dice roll correctly. smile.gif

Merry Christmas everyone.
