Background
1/Where and what kind of environment did you character grow up?
Minjerribah, (North Stradbroke Island, Australia). A wooded, sand island ~(123E, 27S) in the Coral Sea. After the Awakening, it was wholly controlled by the native tribe there. Unfortunately, a 500 year old curse also Awakened, dooming the island to erode into the sea by 2040. [This is an historic curse, spoken with the dying words of the shaman of a slaughtered tribe; I figured it would carry weight after the Awakening.]
2/What are you character's relations with their family?
Among his people, everyone is "cousin" and everyone lives out of each other's pockets. The family is rude but warm, generous but greedy, confrontational but loyal, like a pack of dogs. There's no room for pretence or personal property in his upbringing.
3/Does your character have an ethnic background?
Full blooded australian aboriginal.
Appearance
4/What does your character look like?
Very ugly. He has a wild, greying beard and hair, with a receding hairline and a ritual-scar across his forehead in the shape of a kookaburra. He has many missing teeth, rheumy eyes and dark, wrinkled skin.
5/What does your character dress like?
He keeps a longcoat ready for when he's going out, and is otherwise likely to be wearing very little indeed. The modern nudity taboo is something he needs to be reminded about.
6/What are your character's physical quirks?
Missing teeth, tattoo on forehead, dwarven stature and wild hair.
Skills, attributes, resources
7/What did your character always want to be?
He was born Dwarven and as a child all he wished for was acceptance. He found this as a shaman's protege in early life, and magic became his key to acceptance in the tribe.
8/Where and how did your character learn their Active and Knowledge Skills?
Growing up on Minjerribah, he learned survival skills before he could talk, and being the shortest among his cousins, he soon learned brawling too. After he was apprenticed to the tribal shaman, Swamp-Frog-Woman, he learned much about spirits and sorcery from her.
After the island sank into the sea, an extended walkabout led him to meet a powerful and wealthy Cajun witch, who hired him as a guide for a tallismongering journey into the Never-Never. Impressed by his abilities, she invited him to join certain profitable ventures back in North America. There he learned the basics of running the shadows.
9/Where and how did your character get their major equipment and ‘ware?
A magical black opal was inherited from Swamp-Frog-Woman, who chose to die with the island.
10/Where and in what kind of place does your character live?
He lives in a very rude shelter in the hills which serves as his shaman lodge. When it becomes too unhygeinic, he moves somewhere else. Other times, he lives on other people's couches. The modern notions of 'home' and 'guest' are alien to him. He considers it normal to move in with people, and very rude to ask someone to leave.
11/Who are your character’s contacts?
(1) Matron Jemma - a Cajun vooduan of Erzulie. An expert enchanter and experienced runner.
(2) Viktor - a German, dwarf, street-samurai. Veteran runner, fixer and walking swiss-army-knife.
12/Who are your character’s enemies?
He has made serious enemies among insect-spirit hives, having attacked many of them.
13/For non-Awakened characters, how does your character feel about magic?
Not applicable.
Personality
14/What are your character’s personality quirks?
Cheerfully ignorant of many social conventions, like fashion-sense and table-manners.
15/What are your character’s likes and dislikes?
He despises pretentiousness and conformity and pities wage-slaves.
He likes to relax and laugh outdoors with a full belly and trusted friends.
16/What is your character’s moral code?
Loyalty.
17/Does your character have any beliefs?
His world-view is unconventional, he considers life to be a dream and time to be an illusion but he feels very certain of who he his, and deeply connected to nature. He can be very patient and aimless, but also very down-to-earth.
18/What are your character’s personal motivations?
With enough money, magic and allies, maybe he can resurrect his sunken homeland.
Running the shadows
19/Why does your character run the shadows?
Unwilling or unable to conform to open society, the shadows are where the money is.
20/What would make your character leave the shadows?
A billion nuyen and assurances that he wouldn't have to wear a suit or do any paperwork.
Personal
21/ What would make you stop adventuring?
His own island, canoe and plump, young wife.
22/ What type of entertainment does the character like?
Fishing, swimming, eating and talking.
23/ Does your character identify themselves with a specific group of people?
He identifies with the underdog, whoever that is. He is especially prejudiced against white, male, successful businessmen.
24/ Describe the room where you sleep.
Your couch, chummer!
25/ What actor would play this character in the movies? Why?
Maybe the black, elwin warrior from Willow. No-one else comes close.
26/ If you weren't shadowrunning, you'd be doing... what?
Fishing.
27/ What's your idea of getting "dressed up?"
Putting on a longcoat over his loincloth.
28/ Where were you when Dunkelzhan was assassinated?
Walkabout in the dreamtime. Far from any tv.
Experienced
29/ What were your first impressions of your teammates?
Misfits versus "the Man" = just like family.
30/ What advice would you give a noobie runner?
First, run to safety, then turn and fight. Never the other way around.
