OK.

What skills would I need to make my character a car thief, though? What exact skills, please.

If you are going with physically hotwiring the cars. You first have to have the Locksmith skill to get the car unlocked. Then you would need Automotive Mechanic or Hardware (I think RAW, it would be Hardware because cars are more electronic than mechanical in the 2070s). I would allow you to use whichever of those skills you choose for the test to hotwire the ignition as well as to locate and disable the vehicle's transponder. And finally you would need the Software skill to be able to reinstall vehicle OS/registration with you as the owner. If you want to be really thorough you could use Automotive Mechanic Skill to physically alter the VIN numbers stamped on various parts within the vehicle. But if somebody's down to looking at the car on that level, you're already caught.

I've probably missed the boat on this one judging by the 5 pages of posts but let me know if there's space for another adept smile.gif

For anyone who is interested I've cobbled together an excel spreadsheet for calculating character gen based on the previews and a lot of Slacker's typing and I'm happy to let anyone have a copy who wants one...it hasn't got any resources calcs in it yet (I should sort those very soon...hoping to buy the pdf myself tomorrow biggrin.gif)

It's a WIP in progress but if you want to PM me an email address I'll send it out!

I would make it available on google docs but I'm not sure the formatting would translate very well...

Hmm...normally I would make room to add you Aria, but I've already told a few people no because I am trying to keep this to only 5 players.

Let me think about it. If there's enough interest (especially with the PDF coming out tomorrow) I may start up a second thread for another group.

Only one more day... biggrin.gif

Automotive Mechanic, Hardware and a Jammer should be all you need for the non Hacking approach.

No problem! Perhaps I can persuade you to GM in the SR5 version of the 2072 thread which I intend to get going shortly!
Umidori
I'd like to toss my hat in the ring for the potential second group, please!

I'm very, very interested to test the new system, and I've wanted to actually take part in a PBP game for a while now. I'd be up for running a melee Street Samurai: in part because I normally don't play Sammies; in part because I want to see just how well melee works now (or perhaps still doesn't); in part because no one in your first group went with one; in part because I want to test the whole Wireless Bonuses boondangle for myself; and in part because I normally try to build exotic and bizarre character concepts, so just being a straight Sam will be oddly refreshing for me personally.

Of course, even if you don't run a second group, I'll be following this one's exploits with great interest! Good luck, chummers!

Hehe - now I'm thinking about a character to play in THAT game!

4/Do we start with 25 Karma as I was reading in the preview? Can this be spent after my Skills and Attributes are finished, and used to increase those? Can you buy Cash for Karma in chargen?

QUOTE (Slacker @ Jul 7 2013, 06:33 PM) *
Oh and you can't buy cash for karma or vice versa.

BTW. It looks like I was wrong about this. You can spend up to 10karma to buy cash at 2000 nuyen.gif per karma.

Ha. I like the enthusiasm, but if I do start up a second game I'm thinking it will be better to get all new people to get more people exposed to the new system.

If there is a second group going, I'd like to join. Probably decker/Technomancer/magician/gunbunny (cybered) based on my current tastes.

Still reading the PDF though, and haven't really played SR before.

If there a 2nd group and you'll have me smile.gif

Ok, ok. There's been enough interest that I guess I'm going to have to start up a second game. I'll post up a recruitment page in a little bit.

But if there is any more interest in more SR5 games, somebody else is going to have to run it....or I'm going to lose my title of slacker! (And they better reserve a spot for me to be able to play in it too)

Thank you, you're awesome smile.gif

It's cool - I totally agree. Guess my troll-with-a-sledgehammer will wait for another open game smile.gif

Fair enough. Hopefully Aria gets his game up and running soon (though maybe not until he's already finished working on the Excel character generator so he doesn't get to distracted from that).

I am going to pick up a book at the local store tomorrow. Busy day today, and a busy work schedule through Saturday, but Sledge will be ready for GMI on Monday morning!

Yes, I like the hard copy.
Thanee
I don't think you can buy the hardcopy book already...

Unless you know something I don't, you aren't going to be able to pick up the hardcopy any time soon. Only the PDF was released today with opening up hardcopy pre-orders. The hard copies don't actually ship out until mid August.

Wtf is the likelihood of us both posting at the exact same time? The only reason I'm awake right now is one of my cats just knocked a drink over onto my phone, kindle, and laptop. frown.gif

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Well, at least that saves me a trip tomorrow.

About Mystic Adepts... can they gain further Power Points somehow, except using the "Metamagic" after character creation?

Bye
Thanee
phlapjack77
the only ways I see are:
- initiate + "metamagic" pp
- raise Magic = free pp
- qi focus (not really pp, but sorta)

That is the part I could not find so far... only for Adepts. Does it apply to Mystic Adepts?

Bye
Thanee
phlapjack77
I think it does. The rules talk first about chargen PP: adepts get 'em free, mystic adepts pay for 'em. Then the rules talk about post-char-gen stuff.

SR5, p279
"Subsequently, Power Points can come in two ways. You get a free Power Point whenever you increase your Magic attribute, and you can gain a Power Point through Initiation (p. 324) instead of gaining a metamagic."

Although it does seem a little strange, that mystic adepts pay for PP at char gen but then get them free with every extra Magic point. But the way I read it is that they do.
Thanee
Yeah, that part definitely looks like it...
