The choice to not undergo surgery in a shady back room?

Why would I have it done in a shady back room? The surgery is perfectly legal, and I have a good quality fake SIN. Shadowrunners don't have to purchase everything under-the-table.

That's another option. The poster I was replying to was specifically talking about "those shady cyberdocs who operate in the shadows."

I agree that the legal route is best if you've got the fake SIN for it and can afford the risk. I've got a character who is eventually looking to set up a genetech facility strictly on the level, despite his real SIN being a criminal one.

However, exposing your fake SIN to a legal clinic is quite a danger, even if it's a high-grade SIN, and it will leave a trail that can be easier followed than if you were to ask a surgeon who doesn't need to know your SIN at all.

But then again, where's the fun if there's no risk involved anymore? smile.gif

Or just ditch that SIN following the surgery.

If I'm getting my face changed, it's because things went insanely south. That generally means I don't want to show my face in a legal establishment that is probably required by law to alert law enforcement whenever someone comes in wanting a major enough change to fool facial recognition systems. They probably send both the before and after holos directly to the Star.

If, however, you're getting it changed for other reasons (maybe you just want to look different) then going the legal route is fine, even with a SIN you don't throw away instantly (but also never use for anything remotely illegal).
