Basically want I want from the team leader is what risks he is expecting, hpw strong a detail he has got (I'm not really expecting more than a couple, so we are to my mind a really big reinforcement), what gear we can carry, and what he wants us to do if its more complicated than lurk in line of sight of the ambassador so we can provide counter spelling, I'm assuming he has someone to provide physical security. I'll also tip my hand to him in a show of good will and say our briefing indicated that they were worried that something might 'go down'

Got an IC post about ready to go. Wanted to double-check a fact though.
After finding the special-recognition test connection, Adone will compare the results to those of the girls parents. The hypothesis is that this could be an indicator of the effects of the shared gene sequence, but if all 112 parents also scored statistically higher than average, on those same tests, then it might just be an indicator of one of the traits that the parents were screened for (when they were selected for this strange experiment) - and mostly just incidental that their offspring would also express a similar aptitude.
Also, verifying that Adone hasn't heard anything back from his superiors reguarding if or how they would like him to move forward on his request to investigate this, or if anyone has been sent to speak to the parents, or to hunt down the 5 missing girls.

They have a 12 person team assigned to the Ambassador for the entire gala. The gala itself has a platoon of security from the "standard" security forces.

[ Spoiler ]
I was hoping if Dorian used my authorization to get in the system, he could hack the data trail after the fact from inside. Hackers & Editing, p 225, is the type of test I'm thinking of. I figure it's likely that Dorian won't be able to easily change the access logs to indicate that "I" was never there -- but it might be easier to erase the trail of what he'd done with my access while there. So others might know "I" accessed the system, but not what, exactly, "I" did there. (Or, more likely, they'll see some bogus information about what was changed or done, to throw them further off the trail.)
I figure whoever is looking for me already knows that I will be there, and that I will be in disguise (otherwise it wouldn't be a very difficult thing to hide from) so them knowing I had the attendance list changed to suit my new identity won't give them any new information, as long as they don't know what I changed it to (or, hopefully, from.)

I forgot a couple of things in my rush earlier, but I assume that Asterix sent Volusia a file with instructions on where to meet the entourage she is joining? Also, she's going to shoot him a text message and ask how she should proceed once she finds the agent - whether to just inform Asterix and send the data or should she confront the agent or do something completely different)

Okay, for my "mark" then I will choose Mark Keith, a CAS simsense star known for his somewhat misogynist characters. According to the tabloids, he's carried on numerous affairs with other actresses, mostly his co-stars in his various sims. He seems to especially prefer elven women. The relationships tend to end dramatically on the covers of the tabloids. There are also rumors that his staff have a high turnover rate, as he tends to belittle their work and be very unappreciative. Despite, or even because of all these rumors, he's currently rising rapidly in popularity -- fast enough and high enough to warrant an invitation to the Gala, if only barely. The fact that he's stinking rich and has no financial sense is also probably a motivational factor for his invite to a charity giving event

Piers figures the rumors are a likely sign that he doesn't know anything about what his staff does, and as an added bonus, they are likely to be dissatisfied enough to not look too close at the last minute PR handler (to the non-security people in his entourage) or undercover security personnel (to his existing security people.)

Also, a clarification - I *don't* want the VIP protection detail to react as though I am the boss, I want them to do whatever it is that they do with me providing some addition assistance. I still clearly see their team leader as 'the boss' but we will be less tightly intergrated than his 'core team'
So I'm going to put across that CTB sources indicate that something may go down (intelligence hit), thats all the infomation I can get at my pay grade, and that it may be magical (a blindingly obvious inference from assigning two mages) and offer my skills as astral overwatch and Mariko as extra counterspelling.

Just one last task before (or really, while) entering the gala:
[ Spoiler ]
I'll have to blend with Mark's entourage. After all, if they don't believe I'm with them, no one else will either. By the time I arrive, hopefully, Dorian will have updated the event's computers with the new information. Based on that, I hope to be able to Con the non-security people with Mark into believing I'm PR, and the Security people into believing I'm undercover security (which, in a sense, I am.)
I'll give a roll for each. I figure since I really am trying to "fit in" with them, First Impression probably applies.
Roll for non-security people with Mark:
Dice Pool / Dice Rolled: [ 13 | 13 ]
Hits scored: 6
Dice: [5] [5] [6] [3] [2] [1] [1] [6] [1] [6] [6] [1] [1]
Roll for security with Mark:
Dice Pool / Dice Rolled: [ 13 | 13 ]
Hits scored: 5
Dice: [4] [4] [1] [5] [1] [2] [5] [2] [5] [6] [3] [3] [5]
Heh, wow. I have a feeling I'll be wishing for these kind of rolls later!
If anyone is using a respirator or something, the last two dice are from Tailored Pheromones.
Oh, and during the Gala, will you be making the perception checks to see if I notice the various agents, or should I make rolls for that too?
Edit: Eek, one last question: Will we be getting the simsense feed (or have the option to), or is that a special treat for the celebs? I could certainly see why, as security, the wouldn't want our attention distracted, I just didn't want to assume anything.

A few questions...
First, ditto on what Feshy said - can I get info on who I'm able to spot before the feed?
Volusia will be wandering around observing - appearing to be a very, very bored somewhat anti-social technical type for whom the simsense feed shall be the only redeeming quality of the gathering... which is exactly what she is, her (in her not so humble opinion silly) mission not-withstanding. She is very much hoping to complete the mission prior to the feed so that she won't have to miss it.
Also, what is the reason that Asterix gave for my being part of the entourage? I presume that I'm just a 'hanger-on,' is that correct?
Also, it is expected that we use our supplied fake identities as far as SIN broadcasting, correct?
I'll post a full description of Volusia as she appears at the ball here in the OOC in a bit so that other players will have it as a reference without having to refer back to my last few posts
BlackHat
Dec 11 2007, 01:30 AM
Also, I know I've moved forward quite a bit in the timeline, but I'm having trouble thinking up any more leads to follow up on - so I'll have Adone's underling contacts have a go at the evidence, and see if anything comes out of it, while he waits for any word from his superiors. If I think of anything else to try in the meantime, I'll post it - but otherwise, I'm expecting a little wait while other people catch up.

Volusia, amongst all the other possible candidates, of which there are some few "threats", think of a pool of 10 possible assasins, does spot Peirs as a "ringer" but would place him low on the list of "theats" that is actually going to "do something bad". Volusia identifies his quite good but obvious disguise(To her), and even though the entourage he's with accepts him, and he's performing the job, he's obviously new to them.
Volusia also identifies the presence of Mariko and Prometheus, but only as additions to the Ambassadors security team, though ones with some special status within the team, possibly specialists dedicated to countering specific threats. Not necessarily unusual for such a special exposed event as this gala and the guest list.
Prometheus and Mariko both make note of Dr Volusia unusual behavior and presence, it's hard not to. Any cross reference check reveals to both of them Volusia is a bio engineer in EVO of some note. Volusia is obviously scanning and searching the crowd for some specifics which are hard for either Prometheus or Mariko to identify.
Peirs, no one seems to be paying extra attention to you, however, there is one member of the Ambassadors entourage acting as obvious security even though they aren't part of the regular security team (Dr Volusia) and she's paying slightly more attention to you.
Edited to fix some stuff.

It's up to Volusia to interpret, but you can think of it like being number 10 on the list of top ten list. You're on it, but at the bottom of the list.

Ok, I'll do the IC post as soon as I can in the next day or so. Things are a little hectic with this being the week of final exams.
So, to be clear, out of what I am looking for, I have nine or so suspects who seem like they may actually be planning to do something disruptive, and one guy (Piers) who is a match to my criteria - so not actually part of the security people he is working with, etc - but doesn't to my eye seem to be planning to be disruptive.
I just wanted to be sure, because given what I know of the 'mission,' that would seem pretty clear-cut since an EVO agent undergoing a test wouldn't be planning to do anything disruptive, correct?
But yeah, I hate to say it, but nobody gets any extra 'hey look at how good I am at spotting people' points for picking out an anti-social half-lizard half-elf with obvious cyber in a crowd of socialites LOL. You'd pretty much have to be blind - its somewhat impossible to disgiuse such a thing. Feel free to describe the 9 targets as you wish, some might actually be hard to verify against Volusia's analysis, but easily half of them do clearly are not who they present themselves as. You can't figure out exactly what each of them might be doing, but there's so much stuff to do at a such an event, from simple simsense attack journalism, stealing, kidnapping, extractions, murder, mass murder and various others.
The main thing you get out of spotting them is if they do do something you'll see since you are already watching them.
And yes, you actually have the authority in a lot of cases to cause these individuals to be removed prior to them actively accomplishing anything. While you might not be able to arrest them directly, you could ask them politely to leave. Or think of other things to do with them.

Well, I was hoping to hear from Ruff before I mentioned anything specific, but I can lay down some basics to work off of.
Bull and Bear security systems: disable panic buttons, fire alarms, and any outgoing alert traffic. Focus any video on the Commander and any interactions he's had with the patrons. Have a loud drunk (prearranged with Evo personnel) order drinks at the bar next to him and get obnoxious with Water Lilly (then thrown out) to gage the crowd to see if he has muscle with him. Be prepared to lock-down exits if possible.
Drones: Flyspy - inside taking photos of everyone, marking the target. Nissan Roto - outside with pictures of known contacts watching entrances.
Question: does Evo have something like the Lone Star Strato 9 (pg 177 Rigger 3)?
Before I appoach the bar I scan for nodes, hoping to catch the Commander with a commlink active. I'll have stealth up and run an analyze to see what type of system it is if possible - most notably if it is hot or cold sim enabled.
Plan A: confront, let Lilly rip him a new one if he resists, let Ruff intervene if he has friends in the bar.
Plan B: If he eludes Lilly put the bar in lock-down, hack his commlink and hit him with Black Hammer or Blackout. I will take the time beforehand to compile a fault sprite and put it on standby.

You know he's not going to come quietly, probably that little nervous tick indicating the commander's activated his move by wires.
There can be an equivalent of the lone star strato, an LMG armed Rotodrone is available
The commanders commlink initally seems to be in hidden mode, not unusual, it's implanted in the commander. You know it's standard to hot sim military commlinks if implanted.
No surprise on either side.
Declare your IP 1 actions.

@Dire I dont have the slightest clue whats going on. Who are the people im with? I assume we are after a baby, but why? Do I have samples to do astral tracking??
Do you plan to give me a rundown via PM or something?
Do you plan on making a wiki site for us?? Im not sure if people are allowed to make multiple wiki sites or I would start working on one.

Prometheus, and anyone out of VR
The crowd is as you would expect for a large group in shared VR. However about 5 seconds in there is an enormous synchronous twitch in the crowd, and a significant portion, ten to twenty percent, suffer some kind of problem, similar to getting dumpshocked. The standby Crash Cart teams are already moving.

@EveryoneOk If you know how, you can go ahead and whip up your own character pages. Please use the pre-made templates! Please follow this format for naming your pages:
Characters name - page name(homepage, character sheet, equipment, mechanics, contacts, takes)
Then you can just fill in your information and maybe add your forum name/ character name to the player characters/home pages and link them to your characters homepage.
---------------------------------
If you dont know how to play with your wiki you have to sign up to wikispaces and then goto our website and use the links in the upper left to "create new page". Then you name it and choose a template from the drop down window. Then you will see a "edit this page" along the top. Click that and you can edit the page and fill in numbers and info however you see fit.
If thats all to complicated for you I will be making character pages as time permits. Then we can go over how to edit them later.
