I have a quick question- HMHVV Hunter, why are you playing a vampire?
Tanka
Dec 4 2003, 05:23 AM
The "rules" are found in the Critters Sourcebook, or Paranormal Animals of Europe/NA... It's basically the stats, no cyberware/bioware, and everything else is just regular rules, excluding what else is in this thread.
The three spots are "regular" Vampires and a Dzoo-Noo-Qua (Troll with HMHVV). If you're going to play, it's going to be very magic-geared, and these last three spots are going to be aspected (If you really want to play full mage/another Adept, PM me with details for the character and I'll think about it). There are no Physical Mages as PCs.
Edit: moosegod: He hasn't gotten back to me. I don't think he is.

I don't have Critters nor the other book you mentionned.
Could you give me the necessary info about vampires conserning character creation? And if it is not too much to ask, a little bit of info about how you get infected and how the essence thing works out...
Oh and I don't plan on being a full mage nor an adept. But I might decide to be aspected. I'm starting to have some character ideas, one of these being a fire elementalist. None of them include being a troll.
-> Who said having many magic users is bad ? .. Oh right, that's what I thought, it wasn't a vampire

Basicly, as far as character creation goes, you get +2 Quickness, +2 Charisma, +1 Intel, +1 Willpower, a x5 running multiplier, +1D6 Initiative, and you start off with 2D6 Essence. There are other powers you would have, but they won't come into play during character creation.

Don't forget the extra initiative die.

Right, my bad, I'll edit my last post to reflect that.

If you need any help, Gobogen, feel free to email if it's something minor and you don't want to bug Tanka or just want to hash over some plans.
You can reach me at funkenstein@doctor.com if need to. Same goes for everyone else.

Okay, I'm going to start to finalize all of my Resources so I'm ending my offer for a free lifestyle for everyone now (you all should still have space at the "boss nosferatu's" cave or whatever, too). I'm increasing the base price by 140% to account for myself, the four of you (assuming Gobogen is going to take the oath of loyalty for it, if not, no biggie), and my two Level 3's contacts.
Just letting everyone know.
GunnerJ
Dec 5 2003, 06:09 PM
1) Do we have to pay anything at chargen?
2) How much is the cost of living per month now, then?
Ol' Scratch
Dec 5 2003, 06:26 PM
For the Bloodbath? You don't have to pay anything at all for it, Dominic is paying everything for the lifestyle including the monthly upkeep. If you want to upgrade any features (such as increasing your personal Comforts, Entertainment, Furnishings, or Space within the Bloodbath), you need to pay extra using the rules in the
Sprawl Survival Guide.
For instance, one of my Level 3 Contacts upgraded her room to Middle Comforts, Entertainment, and Furnishings and she has to pay 2,400 nuyen per month extra for those perks. If you are interested in doing that but don't have the SSG, feel free to ask and I can crunch some numbers for you. Just note that these improvements only apply to your personal space.
Oh, you guys can also get into his nightclub (Bedlam) without paying the cover charge and drinks are on the house. Just behave yourself while there and keep in mind it's an "upscale" nightclub, so dress and act appropriately.
If you meet someone there that you think you can feed from easily, you'll need to pay for one of the private rooms downstairs to do so or otherwise "take them home." No feasting on the dancefloor, dammit.
GunnerJ
Dec 5 2003, 09:36 PM
Cool. No upgrades for Thinker, though.

Dec 5 2003, 09:44 PM
None for me either. I just need cold hard floor.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 5 2003, 09:46 PM
Groovy.
You could probably get away with downgrading your respective areas, too, and thus gaining some money back, but I'm not sure if the rules or Tanka support that idea. Besides, they're just Low now anyway, so you wouldn't gain much in the deal.
Grey
Dec 5 2003, 09:48 PM
I just got an idea...
How many powerpoints would it cost to make an Adept Power that matches what a Sleep Regulator does?
Ol' Scratch
Dec 5 2003, 09:53 PM
Do vampires even really need to sleep? The only time they have to go dormant is when they're deprived of air, and they have a good reason to stay out of the sun.
Tanka
Dec 5 2003, 10:17 PM
Yes, they need to sleep. They aren't totally inhuman.
How many PP? Good Lord, I don't know... Maybe 3ish.
Oh, and I don't support downgrading your lifestyle that is supported for more money. No free money for you!
Grey
Dec 5 2003, 11:00 PM
3? You've got to be joking. I was going to call it at 0.5 or maybe 1 tops. Either way, I'm not taking it now anyway, I was just considering it for later.
Tanka
Dec 5 2003, 11:02 PM
For the fact that you barely have to sleep and you recieve no TN mod after being awake for a long period of time? I'd say that's a crazy power. Close to Increased Reflexes and the like.
Grey
Dec 5 2003, 11:26 PM
Then why is it only 0.3 Bio Index
Crazy power stuff gets real high Bio index ratings. Like I said, it was just an idea and I'm not too worried about it.
gobogen
Dec 5 2003, 11:31 PM
I'm going to swear loyalty to Dominic and live there. I will upgrade my stuff to high entertainment (could that include having a grand piano?), high conforts, high Furnishings, and I will want to have a lot of space for myself only, perhaps two to three times more space than other people. What else can you do when your character is is rich and likes the highlifestyle
I'm ready to pay for high lifestyle to get all this, but maybe I don't need to pay that much ... just tell me how much it costs me to get what I'd like and I'll pay for it
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 12:31 AM
Upgrading all four aspects to High will cost you (20 points +20% -1,960)... 6,000 nuyen per month. The rest of it is being paid for by Dominic.
Note that you're still free to have as many Lifestyles as you like. This is just your space and whatnot inside the Bloodbath.

Dec 6 2003, 01:18 AM
Grey: For when you do want to take it, I'll have thought about it and done accordingly.
Once more I'll put out a call. Two slots left, one Dzoo, one Vampire. Invite people. I'm going to PM HMHVV real quick to see if he's still interested.

Dec 6 2003, 01:22 AM
I know but I think my character wants to get installed there for a while and he doesn't need any other place. Thanks for paying for all this.
I'm going to send you my character sheet tonight, tanka.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 01:25 AM
Sounds good. That makes Grey, GunnerJ, Doc Funk, and soon gobogen. Anybody hear from Cheese recently?
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 01:31 AM
OK, HMHVV says he's no longer interested. Anybody got ideas for two more? I'm fine with NPCing them, as long as, if somebody wants to play, they don't mind playing a pre-created character.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 01:35 AM
Well, I do technically have two Level 3 Contacts that can fit the bill, though neither of them is a troll. As for other players, I don't personally know anyone outside of my wife, and she's not ready to play just yet.
But I'll see if I can talk her into it.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 01:41 AM
I meant to fill those last two spots. I should've specified, but, ah, well, such is life.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 01:47 AM
So did I.
When she gets home, I'll ask my wife if she'll reconsider playing as an active player (in which case I'll just make a new Level 3 contact).
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 01:53 AM
Fair enough.
A female Dzoo... Now that might be fun.
Up to your wife, of course.
Lezzie Borden
Dec 6 2003, 03:58 AM
Ok, I'll give it a shot. All I ask is that you all be gentle with me because I don't know all of the rules as well as you guys do.
I have a few questions I need to ask, however, so I'll send you a private message.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 05:11 AM
Alright everybody, say "Hi!" to Doc Funk's wife of the thing called "real life!"
She's playing
Harlot, one of his L3 Contacts that was a Pawn and he decided to make as a Nossie. She's a new Nossie, so she has no hold in anything around the area.
I know, this is breaking my rules, but we're getting stretched for players. I'm going to NPC the Dzoo and drop the last Vampire. Everybody start finalizing their stuff.
I'll get in touch with Cheese to see if he's still playing with us.
One quick question to Doc Funk: For your sheets, is that a program, or did you do the design yourself? I like it. I want it. I
need it!
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 05:17 AM
I do 'em by hand. Glad you like 'em.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 05:18 AM

I did now.
Sorry, work smacked me in the face again, then I got to a few other things.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 05:33 PM
OK, here's what I have so far. Correct me if anything is wrong.
Doc Funk: Nosferatu Corrupt Eros Shaman
Grey: Vampire Physical Adept
GunnerJ: Vampire Sorcery Adept
Lezzie Borden: Nosferatu Physical Adept
Oh, could somebody give me the canoninical reference where it says you can Dikote a Weapon Focus? Either my GMs and I have houseruled it the entire time, or I'm missing something completely. Thanks.
Edit: Oh, and I'm trying to think of a good thing to aspect a Dzoo-Noo-Qua in. I'm thinking an Enchanting Adept would be interesting. Can they use weapon foci just like the rest?
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 05:45 PM
All Awakened characters can use weapon foci, and an Enchanter would be cool.
And you can dikote a weapon focus by virtue that nothing says you can't; dikoting works just fine on any item that can withstand the process. Some GMs like to say you need to do it before the enchanting process, but it's not a requirement by the rules.
For the note, by two Level 3 bodyguards are a hermetic Ork Sorcerer (specializing in fire magic) and an aspected Seductress Shaman who focuses primarily on conjuring but uses his sorcery skill for Shielding purposes.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:07 PM
Mmk, fair enough. What other foci can Enchanters use? I'm still finding null on what different aspects can and cannot use. Maybe I'm just overlooking the obvious.
Edit: Something I completely forgot; you can initiate at chargen. Don't take it too far, and, if you need a group, either make one up based on your contacts, or get in touch with each other and make one.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 06:11 PM
Enchanters can use any focus that they can normally use. An Enchanter is just a regular magician (full or aspected) with Enchanting. There's no such thing as one who can only use Enchanting in 3rd Edition; that was a 2nd Edition concept, I believe.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:14 PM
OK, that makes sense. So he'd have to be fully aspected (Mage, probably) that never bothered to learn anything but Enchanting.
OK, I've got the idea for him down. He'll technically be fully magically active, he just won't know how to do anything but Enchant.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 06:16 PM
That would be cool. At least that way he'd be able to Astrally Project, help create wards, and have the potential to grow to fill in any voids the group has.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:21 PM
Yup. Kind of an armorsmith/Enchanter combined. Not only will he make the weapon itself, but he'll make it a weapon focus while he's at it! Bwaha.

Dec 6 2003, 06:33 PM
Ok, so now I have extra money but I don't know what to do with it
Any special ideas or suggestions for spending my last 128,865 nuyens ? Apart from this "detail", I'm done with character creation. My character is a sorcery aspected magician with good talismongering skills, and I hope good enchanting skills if permitted.
The thing is I don't believe that anything prevents him from using the Enchanting skill. In the core rules, it says that a Sorcerer may use the Sorcery skill, but not Conjuring. This leads me to think that he can do Aura Reading as well as Enchanting even though he's only an aspected. On top of that, in the Enchanting category, it only states: "Enchanting is a skill used by Awakened characters ..." and not only by full mages. So, I don't understand what an Enchanting adept (aspected?) would mean else that an aspected with good enchanting skills, and I believe my character will be one.
Please tell me if I'm right and correct me if I'm wrong.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:35 PM
Absolutely. As far as I can tell, at least.
As to your extra cash, either drop it for some karma and initiate, some extra skills/attributes (If you used BeCKS), or throw it into some better stuff in Doc Funk's little hole.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 06:35 PM
Enchanting is wholly unrelated to aspects. Any magician can learn and use it, as long as you have a Magic of 1.
As for spending your cash... if you plan on being an enchanter, stock up on raw materials and an enchanting shop. You can find material costs in the back of
Magic in the Shadows, and I think an enchanting shop is 100,000 nuyen... so that would work in well for you.
But then again I have no idea what you have, so can't give a better response.
EDIT: Yes, an Enchanting Shop costs 100,000 nuyen and would make a nice investment into the Bloodbath (hint hint hint!).
And for 20,000 nuyen, you can get 1 unit of gold, 10 units of silver, 10 units of copper, and 10 units of mercury easy... which allows you to make a decent amount of orichalcum after the game starts. If you can scrounge up some more cash, extra units of gold cost 10,000 each.
Oh, and if none of that appeals to you, you can never have enough contacts.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:38 PM
Actually, the shop is 5,000 with the Avail 8. The Facility is 100,000 and Avail 14. So go ahead and drop 5k on the shop if you want, but the Dzoo is going to be doing the same. However, he'll have many random trinkets laying around.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 06:38 PM
Nope, Enchanting Shops are unique and have their own rules. See Magic in the Shadows page 40.
Tanka
Dec 6 2003, 06:39 PM
Fair enough. I forget about that book called MitS sometimes... Bad me.
Edit: By the by, do you think something like a forge would fall under a Shop or a Facility? I've seen some forges that seem very Shop-like, but I've also seen some that are Facility-like. The Shop ones are usually only one person spots, whereas the Facility ones are usually for a larger business.
Ol' Scratch
Dec 6 2003, 06:48 PM
I'm pretty sure that a small forge is included with an Enchanting Shop. It comes with everything you need to make weapon foci and whatnot, which is part of the reason they're so expensive. Only things outside the realm of normal foci, such as the plasma projectors used for dikoting or really weird foci like cyberarms or whatnot, are covered by a standard Enchanting Shop.
