Looking to maybe start an online game for people who believe the dice are at least as important as the roleplaying aspect of a game. Ie: No Wimp Characters.
If you're interested, post here and send me a copy of your character sheet (125 BP). Whatever you want to play, setting is 2063 so anything from Genetech to SURGE to Cultured Bioware is allowed.
Not allowed: Wimps, Shapeshifters (unless you're willing to play it House Rule style, email me), non-Canon metatypes, Heavy Weapons, Armour piercing ammo, initiation at char-gen, Infirm flaw, pure Deckers (or Otaku), Drugs.
Allowed: Any availability as long as you have the cash and background for it.
REQUIRED:
1) Background story that makes sense with the character and a willingness to drop anything the GM (myself) disagree with (and those that know me know I'll try to convert the background to the sheet more often than the sheet to the background).
2) Good roleplaying, I won't tell you "You hit him" if you don't tell me "I shoot him".
3) No Murders or Drugs. Sorry, but I play a 'moral' level game. If you play 'evil' and can't be a good-guy, please don't waste either of our time. I don't mind if you're a "robin hood" type, Ie: some bad for the greater good, but if someone annoys you, so you shoot him, that shot will backfire doing 50D Physical damage to all people holding the gun.
4) Interest. Seriously, I want players who are dying to play the next game and spam me with character thoughts between games. Spend that karma and cash, and rise in 'level' (if I may use the D&D term), so that you can survive the next game.

There will be a limit of 1 Rigger allowed. I'll post when/if that position is filled.
Story: It won't be a Shadowrun game, it'll be a Merc game. Taking place in Amazonia and Aztlan but starting in Seattle (pre-game will be getting to know each other before-game and getting your 'job' which will be a Merc level game).
Hope that's not too much (hope this is the right board, never did a net-game before

).

I'm posting my interest. I just don't have a clue about my intended character at the moment.

I'd be interested if I could hear some important details such as online medium (instant messenger client, message board, email, etc), time of day/week (if applicable), that sort of thing. Otherwise I'll be able to send a character after Thanksgiving weekend if that's not too late.

Medium is an LPC program I wrote that you can log into and communicate via. It's alot more user friendly than a messenger program and has an automated dice roller that will be visible to all players. Game won't start until 05 Jan 2004, and will be ran on Sundays at a flexible time (most likely morning/afternoon for Americans since I'm European and will probably aim for Evening/Night). Prior to 05 Jan I will work with people on characters, and background to get everyone familiar with each other. This is at least a 2 week process, so characters should be finalized no later than 21st December, meaning the sooner you turn the sheet in, the better chance of being finalized on time.
In case anyone is wondering what LPC is, it's a language muds/mushes are made out of. You'll log on to a visible character 'sheet' with a 'spell' list, a 'cyber' list, and anything else I can think up that you might need including commands like 'roll 5' dice. This is why I need the time, I need to literally make the characters in code form.

Side Note in response to messages I have received. I do not mean 'killing machines' when I say no wimps. I mean no leotard panzy ass 'but style is so much more important than mechanics' type characters who think a gay ballad troll is something a person would actually hire to do a Merc mission. Be tough, a soldier, but not necessarly a killing machine who lacks the ability to use etiquette.

I hear that.
I am also expressing interest. Character will be made soon.

Unfortunately, if you are using that system, along with Yank-friendly timing, I will be unable to participate as I'll have no access at the times when you will be playing.
Good luck though. It sounds like fun.

A few questions.
1)Do you combine the Assault Rifle and Rifle skills?
2)Do you use the cyber implant combat skill?
3)Do you want an experienced merc character, one just starting out, or do you not care at all?
omgwtflol
Nov 29 2003, 04:11 AM
A few more:
1) Do you charge build points for martial arts manuevers?
2) Do you allow custom gear? Firearms on Raygun's website? Custom MA styles?
Sphynx
Nov 29 2003, 07:55 AM
No, I don't combine the Rifle skills.
No, I don't use CyberImplant, most of that would fall under Brawl (or appropriate martial art)
I want a character who's not a push over, he doesn't have to be a veteran military/merc.
I charge 2 BP per Martial Art maneuver (as per Canon)
I do not allow custom gear (though I may make an exception for skillsofts)
FYI, to participate using my medium (the LPC program) all you need is a web browser/telnet, so there is no need to download anything onto your computer (all computers come with both).

What kind of guys are you putting together? What kind of comms are we planning on using? Any team systems anyone was thinking of implementing so I can chip in my share?

Nov 29 2003, 03:55 PM
Oh and Sphynx, what kind of targets will we be going against? What kind of sponsor are we looking at having(corp, nation, private, etc.) Do you have any opposition to my character having the True Believer flaw and a Day Job 10/Hours to accompany it to show his work with a cause and occasionally doing "special" work for them?
Sphynx
Nov 29 2003, 05:57 PM
Targets: Unknown (after all, wanting to build a game here, not a one-shot wonder)

Make a Runner/Merc you're happy with.
Sponsor: At char-gen, only yourself. Once characters are generatted we'll work together on why someone would want to hire you for Merc work.
True Believer flaw: What? Never heard of it.
Day Job: Turn in a complete character, if something seems un-doable, we'll come to a compromise. Anyone that knows me knows I build the story around the characters, not the other way around.

In response to Cheese Emperor's post, I'll most likely be playing a cyber ninja of sorts with an aptitude at firearms. I also think that its a good idea that we coordinate the types of characters we're playing since this is planned out to be a long-term game, and we wouldn't want everyone to be carbon copies of each other.

My guy's a heavy support guy with things like Assault Rifles, Grenade Launchers, a mortar, and some demolitions and electronics to boot. He can handle himself in melee too.

I don't want Questions/Answer backgrounds. I want a story for a background, a feel for the character. Don't stress too much over it, once I read what you have, I'll be sending questions to flesh out my image of your character.

Just realized I forgot to post the link to my known House Rules (which may influence character creation some). It's at:

NSRCG is fine, as is notepad, html, xls, or any other dreamable layout as I can read any file type and will be remaking them all to LPC before the game starts anyhows.

You can be the rigger if you want; I've got other ideas if necessary.
'Ey Sphynx, does the "no custom gear" rule extend to vehicles? If so, would exceptions be made in the case of things such as: Rigger adaptation, remote-control adaptation, and sensor suites?
*Has way too much fun with vehicle customization*
~J
Sphynx
Dec 1 2003, 10:13 PM
I will allow custom drones to an extent, nothing bigger than size Small though (Ie: Small or Micro). I will also allow customization of vehicles (but not creation from scratch) as long as you abide by the non-heavy-weapon rules and you don't get out of hand with it.... After all, you know you're starting in Seattle, and getting an assignment in the jungles somewhere around Aztlan, so if the vehicle looks like a tank, it may not get past any of the borders.....

What all counts as heavy weapons? MMGs and larger? HMGs and larger? LMGs and larger?

Edit: Just looked up in Cannon Companion, and it did include LMGs under the catagory. Ok, then, only a few minor alterations to account for that.

Nah, I get about three character ideas per day, just that my first one for this game was for a rigger. J knows when I'm bitter, heh.
Again in reference to the "no custom gear" thing, does that extend to custom cyberdecks? No I don't have a pure decker in mind, but I'd like the decker part to actually be a decent decker without totally exhausting the one million nuyen I can start with.
Kagetenshi
Dec 1 2003, 10:50 PM
'Ey CirclMastr, if you're still interested in playing that rigger it might be up for grabs. I just found out that I can't get my character under the ¥1,000,000 mark as currently conceived, and I'm not sure I have the energy to rework this concept. I'll probably just use another.

Custom cyberdecks must be built in-game. You can buy the ger to do it, but not start with one.

Since the game is taking place in Aztlan, would it be counterproductive to purchase contacts, safehouses, and the like in Seattle? Or are we going to come back in the near future?
Edit: Nevermind, I'm going for it anyway - for flavor, if nothing else.

Just letting people know that the post of rigger is definitely open. Concept fell through, new concept came together nicely. Here's to hoping it's not identical (numerically) to half the other concepts out there.

1st 'finalized' character completed.
Stealthy Scout/Thief type who took a nice advantage of the
Alternative BP system.
Nobody has chosen to play a mojo thrower, Rattler, so that's definitely wide open (hoping to see at least 2 of those actually, as anyone who knows Aztlan well, knows there's alot of mojo in there).
