QUOTE (Buddha72 @ Jan 17 2008, 04:25 PM) | So I have quite a few characters submitted and I've decided to start the thread with 8, it's been my experience that we'll lose a few in the first month or so. I'm going to post the wait list of characters as well that if a spot opens up I would love to have join the game if the players don't mind the wait. I'll be posting the lists tomorrow. |
And the anticipation builds..... |
Who is this anticipation guy and what is he building?

I have to say I'm eagerly awaiting his choices.
And yah, deltaware datajack would probably be the way to go, with
spent on Knowsofts and Linguasofts.
Either way, I could swap his gear a bit or play him as I sent him to Buddha. He's got some Yak's to kill either way

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I guess I was a little punitive on him, but we live and learn. I tend to play it conservative when I come across gray areas. I would have also liked to have the awakening happen in game but I gave the group 200 karma to spend and he didn't want to wait it out.
QUOTE |
If I remember latent awakening however it's GM decision when and if the character ever awakens. So you could always say that the cyber/bio in his body makes it much more difficult for him to awaken. And potentially the way in which he awakens could cause negative qualities to be attached to the character. A phobia or an allergy, or even something like buggy ware or cursed could all be attributed to a late awakening in a situation like that (and would be good rp'ing hooks). |
Excellent ideas, I wish I would have thought of that at the time. I didn't know the guy but maybe he would have met me half-way.
Thanks for the clarification everyone, and good luck tomorrow!

Yeah, I hope my character is appropriate; I'd like to think it's powerful enough, although the only min-maxing I did was purposely done in order to mitigate some wildly sub-optimal choices. In all honesty, the character should be an ork rather than elf in terms of efficiency (in no way is elf REMOTELY beneficial in this case) and I took some Suffering and Sacrificial ordeals along with a few initiations that didn't have ordeals attached at all since I kind of feel like the Ordeals that only require you play through them like Meditation and Astral quests seem less appropriate considering we don't really have to work for them other than to jot down a backstory in this enviroment. Besides, crippled limbs build character, as my grandfather would say (he was a paratrooper drill sergeant
).

Yah, the major reason why I was discussing my character with Karaden was because I'm unsure as to what exactly a character should look like with 300 karma tagged onto it. (Well that and I enjoy doing it). I tried going for the "cool" factor and make something different and made a few sub optimal choices (he should have been an ork, or even a troll, the increased physical attributes would have been sweet).
Your character sounds cool from the little I've heard about it Whipstich, and I always prefer the interesting characters.

Ditto. I wanted to play an initiate grade mage as my initial concept. I wanted to steer clear of cyberware and bioware as I wanted him to be anti-corporate after I got hooked on the Black Star/Triple-A groups and as he developed, cyber/bio had a corporate feel. Unpure, tainted.
It took me well over a week adding a piece a day to the character as the concept grew in my mind. His motivations, where he came from.. As much as Godzilla turned out a powerful mage with a sizable repertoire of spells, he also is rounded with a lot of low level skills and a number of contacts. He draws strongly on traits from my SR1 Character (Redjack) and my SR2 Character(Zap), but he is much his own unique person.
I actually used meditation & asceticism as they fit well into his background and personality. He is a wanderer. Few ties and known by a dozen different street names (Ghost, Dopple, Morph, Ripper, Mystique to name a few) and a dozen different faces.
He has recently been using the name Godzilla as he begins a campaign of terror against the Yakuza. Godzilla was unknown on the streets of Seattle until he began attacking Yakuza on the streets. Rumor is that Godzilla is really a group. Witnesses have described him human, elven and orkish. When finished, he slips away and all attempts to trace him have so far failed. In each case he tells a witness of some sort, 'Tell them Godzilla did this.'

Jan 18 2008, 02:28 PM
Redjack, it sounds like your character and mine would get on strikingly well.
Munkir has been striking out at the Yakuza for quite a while now, but he's been getting bolder more recently. Slipping from the shadows to strike with blinding speed. The rumor is that he's a demon, some avenging spirit with a taste for blood, he seems to shrug off anything thrown at him. His hits are probably adding to the rumor that "Godzilla" is a group, especially if they're happening in different parts of the city at the same time.
His hatred for the Yakuza stem's from the abrupt way in which he awakened. The brutal attack on his crime syndicate where he was a low ranking bodyguard left him bleeding out and on the verge of death, only the timely intervention of his mentor spirit, and a "deal with the devil" left him alive, and now awakened. The attack also left him without any friends or family, as his entire life up until that point.
The real reason I went with the Cyber/Bio is because Munkir and Nakir are Black Eyed angels of justice who decide where people go after they die. I thought it would be a fitting shadow name so he's got pure black cyber eyes.

Funny, I'm not the only one who passed up the more BP efficent ork/troll because it didn't feel right for the character. You know, that could maybe be how we meet up in a way. All of us are individually taking on Yak members, and we eventually figure out that other people are doing it as well, as all of our attacks are atributed to 'godzilla' and godzilla has attacks attributed to him that he knows he didn't do.
Since I think we are all part of AAA then perhaps the realization can come to them as well and eventually figure out that all the attacking people are in their group, so they pull us all together so we can work on a more effective combined vendeta.
All the reports that are because of my character likely include the words 'excessive force'.
Ezeckial
Jan 18 2008, 03:34 PM
I hadn't planned on him being part of the AAA, was undecided as to how he'd fit in exactly. I also didn't include the price reduction on initiation because of it (but I did include ordeals). I can definitly see us gravitating towards each other in this situation however, and I know Munkir won't be too picky of who he teams up with as long as it involves lowering the Yakuza population permanently.
We've got at least 3 different M.O.'s operating against the Yakuza in seattle atm.

Well, one way or the other we're going to know there are others out there spesificly working against the Yakuza, and we should be able to find each other somehow. Oh, and just for info, 'excesive force' is usually either evidence of a large amount of ammo from a heavy gun, or lots of explosive marks.
Ezeckial
Jan 18 2008, 04:00 PM
Is there any other kind of excessive force?
I like how this backstory is coming together. Looks like it's going to be an epic war.

Excessive force, literally, is what brought my character into the shadows.
Growing up my character took the road less traveled. At the time he was more a non-conformist fighting against the Yak and Corp influence that controlled his neighborhood, but somewhere along the way he started defending those who couldn't fight back. He came to the realization if he didn't, who would?
Krossfire joined LoneStar with hopes he could make a difference, give those who came after him a chance for a better life. Unfortunately corruption is like a cancer who doesn't care about your idealistic goals, it manifests in the darkest reaches and grows until it is often too late to irradicate. Lone Star was no exception. Dissillusioned by the corporate propaganda he thought he was fighting the "Good fight", little did he realize how sadistically the Yakuza had perverted the justice system. Corruption was everywhere.
So Krossfire started to take matters into his own hands, judging and sentencing those "criminals" and punishing with brute force whenever he could. There were "defensive" shootings, "resistance" to arrests, and "manufactured" evidence cases filed against him periodically. It was about this time he was recruited into a special program, a program that believed in "old testement" style of justice - an eye for an eye.
They took on the Yakuza and he lost. He lost friends and family, his job, his identity, just about everything. The Yakuza made him what he is today, excessive force is the only way of life he knows anymore.

I probably need to clean up my background somewhat, actually; I noticed I mixed up the darned shadowrun timeline of major events somewhat, which always makes things messy, especially since Tir Tairngire is heavily involved, and that particular setting has some information bordering upon retcons in several areas.
The overarching theme of Haze remains the same though; he's an older elf whose street name "Haze" had a serious rep attached to it in the '40s and '50s, but that was mostly in Tir Tairngire (which he only managed to gain entrance to after great effort... and then ended up hating it) he's been semi-retired for a while and hasn't been in a rush to "reclaim" his notoriety until the Yaks killed some of his younger proteges in the Black Star and started a nasty campaign against Tarislar locals as a way of trying to flush out the Laesa. He smokes like a chimney, has a fondness for deepweed, which he uses as a teaching aid to help young Awakened ease into astral perception. He's a neo-anarchist and despises racism (he flirted with elven superiority for a while, but grew out of it after the bitter disappointment with Tir), although he grudgingly would have to admit that he himself feels most at ease with other elves. Basically, he's a crazy old political radical with a vengeful streak who feels likes the Yakuza blew their last chance to stay off his lawn and now must face the consequences.

Just so long as he doesn't start shouting "Hey you, get of my lawn!" when we're in the middle of a Yak HQ or something.

QUOTE (Buddha72) |
Godzilla played by Redjack - elf mage |
As a correction, Godzilla is a street shaman. There are a number of things in his past that are centered around this: The first being that he never heard the call of a totem... So he tends to switch totems on a whim and even back and forth as the situations suite various totems. Early on he did this seeking the call of a totem. Several decades on he does it out of habit now. He also has a certain disdain for hermetics with lots of formal schooling and an outright bias for hermetics who are big into fraternity/sorority from their formal schooling.

At this rate I'm eventually going to get around to finishing up my second character before people are picked. (Been very undecided on several points about him, so things keep getting switched around.)

Darn... Well, that's rather unfortunate. I have here a.. lets say backup character, highly different from the one I play now. I figure in the event of my first character's death (Highly possable he'll end up blowing himself up by mistake) or if we find we are seriously lacking in the matrix department or whatever else. Anyway, point is I figured I'd post for comments and suggestions and GM approval for play should it be required. (Bleh, sounds like I'm writing off Hads, but I'm not)
