Few places close to downtown can afford NOT to lock up their vehicles. ESPECIALLY with the ridiculous number of shadowrunners stealing all working vans.
There may be something farther out...but your mapsofts wont give you much in the way of which ones have an available van.
Basic GM hint...you'll have to go looking for one...
Grey
Mar 5 2004, 01:19 AM
How do you want to work our search?
Blitz
Mar 5 2004, 02:28 AM
Well...post to begin with. Explain how and where you are searching. If you don't know the exact location, it's not a problem. Just describe the type of places you are looking for and the type of owner you intend to steal it from. You'll get modifiers depending on how you conduct your search.

In the interest of stepping up the pace a bit...I would like to propose a bit of an acceleration.
Id like to assume that PD paid his down payment for his encryption and that Sully picked up her stealth suit. Id like to roleplay getting the van and PD's interview, then I'd like to fast forward to your preparation for the action segment of our program.
Any objections?

My laptop is dying -- it's failing somehow and rebooting -- so I'm going to be re-tooling for a few days. I'll be in and out to post when I can. Just wanted to let everyone know.
Shadow
Mar 5 2004, 08:49 PM
Good luck Dash, laptops are a pain to repair. There was a virus that came out about 6 months ago that would cause your computer (win 2k/xp) to reboot after putting up a message that said something about "RPC protocol'. You can get fixes for it at symantec.com. Email me if you have any question (I do this for a living).

Blitz: How do you want to work the search for a van, I'm not very familiar with Seattle (I lost my copy of New Seattle two days after I got it), so could you give us a setting post to get things moving for Wraith and Jack?
Blitz
Mar 5 2004, 11:04 PM
First you gotta tell me what you are doing to look. Think of any big city. You have suburbs, middle ground, uptown, downtown, the ghetto, somewhere in between.
Trust me, Im not nearly as familiar with Seattle as Id like to be and I wouldn't know much of a difference.
You are in downtown. bellview is to the east, redmond beyond that, snohomish north east (and all woodsy and farmsteadish), everette to the north (and a good ways away), tacoma is to the south along the docks, pulyup is south east...and has it's own set of barrens aw well as the poor-elfs tir-wannabes.
Grey
Mar 5 2004, 11:20 PM
oh wait... Pulyup may be a good place to go. I remember from Brainscan that there are a lot of industrial sites out there, most of which are fairly run down. I bet I could sneak my way onto one of those and find something.
Shadow
Mar 5 2004, 11:22 PM
Grey, your best bet is going to be West or South Seattle. They are kind of the rundown areas of the 'plex. West Seattle over looks the sound, South is a big industrial park that leads to Boiengs sprawling complex. I think if you guys just drove around for a while, you would find a van that fit our purposes. You probably want to stay away from Downtown though, New S. lists it as AA or AAA I can't remember specifically.
Edit:
Tacoma is about 28 miles south of Seattle btw, so don't head there unless your up for a good long ride. Between the two cities are Fife, Kent, Redmond, and several smaller communities.

Heres a traffic map of Seattle if anyone is interested....
Seattle at a glance

Thanks Shadow. I'll head South to the area around the Boeing complexe. That'll do nicely.

Perception test to pick out a likely looking van: 3,1,13,3,2,5,2,15

I'm actually gunna throw out a few rolls for this job, just because it could be something that blows up in my face.
Stealth (+12 from Ruthenium Polymers, and +8 Signature from Thermo Damper): 11 08 08 05 05 04 02
Electronics B/R to crack the security system (-2 TN for Microscopic Vision): 10 07 04 04 03
Electronics to hack the security system: 10 04 04 03 03 03 02
Perception to find the transponder (-1 for Perceptive edge): 05 05 02 02 01 01
Electronics B/R to remove the transponder: 15 11 03 01 01
Electronics B/R to crack the ignition lock: 11 08 03 02 02
Electronics to start the thing up: 11 05 04 04 03 02 02
As far as I can tell, that should take care of things, let me know if I missed anything. The only roll that I may have failed is finding the transponder, but I don't think it would be over a TN6.

Took control of your receptionist there for a moment, but I thought it would be faster this way. Hope you don't mind.
I'm on spring break right now, so my speed will be slower, but I'll still try to check in once a day if possible.
Blitz
Mar 8 2004, 09:58 PM
No worries...I already told you the info you were gonna get. I'll let you take the reigns, but be careful not to go into detail where certain things are...I'll be posting a map sometime tonight or tomorrow of the facility so you will have a reference.
Grey
Mar 8 2004, 11:39 PM
Is it safe to assume that I can hack the Van's security system so that I can turn it on and off like normal now? Like reprogram it with a new code or something?
Blitz
Mar 9 2004, 01:22 AM
Well...you still have no key, but the security itself has been disabled.
Grey
Mar 9 2004, 05:27 AM
There is no why I could hack it back on, then hack it back off? Like setup a little bypass switch for myself or something, but not leave it unsecured when I'm not near it?
Blitz
Mar 9 2004, 06:22 AM
Do you have any sort of jury-rigging knowledge skill? otherwise it would be an electronics b/r at probably TN 8 base time 6hrs. to reflect not having the proper equipment and trying to just use what you got.

Blitz, is there anywhere near my apartment where I could rent a garage for few days? Or would I have to go with a week/month?
Blitz
Mar 11 2004, 08:21 AM
You find a place about 10 min from your pad that allows weekly rentals. It's cheap though...only 200¥.
Grey

Shadow
Mar 11 2004, 06:29 PM
I just want to be clear Grey:
The lojack has been removed from the van right? There not going to push a button and be able to trace it to the garage. Were also going to need to paint it.
@ Blitz,
Can we fastforward to the next day?
Never mind, I though of stuff to do. I took some liberties on some mundane purchases, I hope you don't mind.

Blitz
Mar 16 2004, 02:28 AM
Ok...so I needed an extra day...SORRY!
Ground Floor2nd FloorThey are mostly color coded
Blue Doors have no maglock
Green Doors have a simple lock (pin and tumbler style)
Yellow Doors have a basic maglock (rating 3)
Orange Doors have a good maglock (rating 6)
Red Doors have no aparatus available from the outside, and serve as fire doors (ie, makes a LOUD alarm if opened) ((the large red doors are garage doors and, while not fire doors, are programed to beep loudly as a warning whenever they are opening or closing))
Black doors are guarded by a high quality maglock (
and a retinal scanner (6)
The maps are mostly to scale, but not exactly. if you need futher clarification, just ask.
Also...the white square rooms are offices and the one upstairs and just to the left of the stairs and elevator is the security office.
