Also, contemplating making a domestic dog shapeshifter using wolf stats; the inspiration here was Blue from Wolf's Rain, but I'd obviously go nuts tampering with it till it's really my own. Would allow for a shapeshifter that understands human society very well and has human social connections in a way that a wild creature wouldn't.
He should have the Negative Quality 'Bad Dog'. If anyone says that to him, he suffers the 'Combat Paralysis' Negative Quality's effects.

cleaned the crime scene perfectly

My blue really little dwarven combat adept.
I'm talking 3 hand spans height and strong as a troll.

My Killer-Shriek.
Basically, all ear and voice-ware and through some creative tinkering the equivalent of a built in sonic rifle.
And talking with his voice not synched to the movement of his lips too.

My Eye-Sore.
Basically everything i could do to obtain technological invisibility and using it to be really hard to look at most of the time.
More or less like the Predator Camouflage when moving.

Concept Character that specializes in infiltrating and killing yakuza.
In both lower legs shotguns shooting out of the knee.
So when he kneels in front of you, you are in short distance for both shotguns.

I bumped into this accidentally toying around with a new character, and while not valid, it makes me giggle.

Pixie Drake Infiltrator.

Max Agility 10 racially while in dracoform (on the hypothetical basis that such a creature existed).

OOH! Make it SURGEd (Metagenetic Improvement) too! And Genetically Enhanced (does this work?)!
Max 12/15 Agi never hurt nobody.
Stahlseele
If that's the racial max, how is one supposed to get to augmented max?

Oh yeah and it would be 12/18...so you would need P4MO as well.

Nope, but that's what the pornomancer's sexy companion calls him/her at night...

Although it would sound more like: "Awh GAWWD!"

EDIT. Extra fun if said companion is an adept with commanding voice.

Free spirit from Christianity tradition....
Blade
Characters I've created but will probably rarely play:

Batman: Born Rich (but now secretely broke) and Famous character with an Evil Twin. Unkillable (high dodge, even higher soak, ludicrous magic defense) combat (9P kick) and social (not a pornomancer but 15+ social dice pool) monster, runs at 90km/h. Blames his notorious evil twin when evidences lead to him (if you can get the GM to accept that Evil Twin can be used at your advantage, which any sane GM will refuse, especially with such a powerful character).

Raptor : A "lighter" version of Batman. The social part is now intimidation only and there's no dangerous Famous/Evil Twin combo. Still an unkillable combat monster with a high intimidation pool who runs at 90 km/h.

Overwatch: To his teammates, Overwatch is a complete team of Matrix-based assistance for the runs (tactical help, investigations, remote hacking and rigging from nearly everywhere on and off the planet). Actually he's just a student who does everything (except after runs parties) remotely from his campus. He hacks every low security nodes around the team to be able to watch them and/or tags along through a small stealth rotodrone.

Uzain Bane: A centaur who runs at 360km/h and practices Cappoeira. Addicted to stimulants and unable to stay long in the same place.

Horst 'Derrick' Tappert: A former homicide detective for the Munich police. He now runs the shadows for some strange and stupid reason. He's old, slow (reaction 1) and boring (he has a "long and boring talk" specialization for con) and he shows no emotions (thanks to a "no-moodchip" BTL) but he's supposedly good at solving problems and very popular with old people.

wat?
Draco18s
I think he means: Capoeira (Portuguese pronunciation: [kapuˈejɾɐ]) is an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance. It was created in Brazil by African slaves by mixing the many fighting styles from many of their tribes, sometime after the sixteenth century.
Doc Chase
How is a centaur going to have the flexibility necessary for Capo? o.O
Dahrken
The completely different body structure, extra limbs and mass is also a problem. Basically no martial art designed for humans is going to work for him, and considering the date of apparition of that specific Awakened race I doubt they got the time to develop martial arts suited for their morpholgy.
Stahlseele
Well, Kickboxing would probably work exceptionally well fopr a centaur.
But yeah, that was one thing i wondered about . .
But NONE of you got stuck on the 360km/h running?

I was planning on doing a rant about how he is obviously using the rules wrong, but decided against it.
sabs
Yeah
Centaurs only run 120Km/h!

Although with cyberleg modifications
180Km/H with raptor
240Km/hr with Skimmer Discs

360Km/hr with both

smile.gif

Ok:
Centaur Movement rate: 20/100m/turn
1 turn = 3 seconds
20 turns = 60 seconds
Centaur movement rate: 2k/minute = 120km/hour
raptor legs = +50% round down = 180km/hour
Skimmer discs = +100% movement rate = 120+120+60=300 OR 120*1.5*2=360
It depends

Irrational fears are hard to play.

Not really. I'm happy walking into a pitch black room (assuming I don't bang my shins), but I have a (non Shadowrun) character who is afraid of the dark. He carries the (magical equivalent) of a flashlight, and never turns it off unless he's in a place with decent ambient light. I managed to go almost a year of gaming without ever having an issue. The other players never even noticed; I just never offered to scout ahead when the way was dark, despite otherwise being the "point man". It finally came to a front because our mage has been tossing around a "stealth" type spell that creates a zone of magical darkness around the target. I kept saying "nah, I don't need it, I can sneak just fine, use it for somebody else" - so still, nobody noticed. Until last session, when the target of the spell was under attack, and I was unable to go help them (at first at least- I ended up getting lucky and maxing out success on a will roll to overcome my fear).

Its hard to empathize with irrational fear (unless maybe you have one yourself) but very simple to consistently apply the effects, which is all that is needed to play them well enough that nobody knows the difference.
Draco18s
True enough. But "fear of the dark" is a pretty mundane fear. A fear of trees...not so much. </oots>

A character with the 25 point amnesia quality biggrin.gif

It'd be alot of fun having to figure out what skills I even have or anything, but I think most GMs would balk at having to make a character for a player (In addition to everything else they have to do).

No doubt. IMO, Amnesia should be a POSITIVE quality, that lets you spend some BPs to "remember you have" skills , contacts, spells, etc (maybe even a store of cash / equipment, even an implant) after game play begins (they'd be handled normally once bought, but need not be set at character creation). The type of total amnesia the negative quality represents is both staggeringly rare, and very hard to balance (could be worth way more / less than 25 points, depending on GM). Its not really suited for an RPG, unless its practically the focus of the story line.

Meh. Never go near a tree then. Refuse to enter any forest, and if you must, take a big hit to most tests due to distraction and anxiety (or get sloshed drunk and have the party carry you).
I see your point though. It helps a lot if you can come up with a REASON why you have that fear. For my character, his parents tried to hide the fact they had him, so as an infant he was often separated from his mother and hidden in some dark place.
I'd say all irrational fears should be something that people (as defined by your game) are often afraid of (typically for a sound evolutionary reason) and can be conditioned to fear at a young age. People aren't normally afraid of trees- in fact, being descended from tiger-evading monkeys, we are COMFORTED by trees. People really shouldn't be allowed to pick what their character is irrationally afraid of- random tables work best for that kind of thing. Unless the result goes against the core of the character (IE, a herpetologist who is afraid of snakes), let the dice decide.
Draco18s
Alright, tress is also an easy one.

Lets see.

An irrational fear...

...of...

Gravity. Opinions of other people. Colors. Hearing good news. French/Japanese/Etc. culture. Knees. Long words. Ideas. Opening one's eyes. Wealth. The moon. Heaven/The afterlife. Walking. Looking up. Wind. Becoming angry. Infinity. Peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth (apeirophobia). Numbers. Stars. Asymmetry. Flues. Gold. Northern Lights. Ventriloquist's dummies. Books. The bogeyman. Bulsheviks. Body smells. Beautiful women. Sitting. Mirrors. Hair. Dancing. Time. Food. Stairs. Going to sleep. String. Making decisions. Going to the bathroom. Dinner conversation. Insanity. Justice. Houses. Freedom. The dawn. Knowledge. The color red or blushing. Laughter. Chins. Growing old. Taste. Writing. Feeling pleasure. The sun. Scientific terminology. The opposite sex. Road travel. Liquids. Being hypnotized. Responsibility. Having an erection. Movement. Rooms. Vegetables. Speaking. The color white.

I can go on. There are some very bizarre fears out there.

I know that there's no way a centaur could practice Capoeira, but the whole character concept is completely absurd. The idea is just to tell the other players and the GM: "I kick that guy using capoeira" and watch them try to picture it.

As for the 360km/h:
- Surged (they say that it is possible, though rare, for a non-metahuman to be surged): Celerity and Satyr Legs (yes I know, a centaur with Satyr Legs doesn't make much sense either, we're still talking about an absurd character concept)
- Skimmer disks

So it's (assuming the multipliers are applied to the base value):
120 + celerity + raptor legs + skimmer disks
120 + (120*0.5) + (120*0.5) + 120 = 360 km/h

No, Barophobia is the fear of gravity not the fear of heights (acrophobia) or falling (philophobia).

Ideophobia would make heist planning sessions a bitch.

Thanatophobia isn't ouranophobia or uranophobia. I said "the afterlife" to be a little more general about it (due to religious beliefs being different). As in the fear of life after death, not the fear of dying.

sabs
I explained it earlier

Their running speed is 100 meters per turn.
100 meters per turn is 2000 meters per minute. (there are 20 turns in a minute)
2000 meters = 2km per minute
2km per minute = 120 km per hour

voila

OK this is teh first time I post a character here, so I hope I get it right with teh spoiler windows and things. It was meade in the SR4a and 750 karma points. I really like the character, and would be up for playing him soon... too bad there are no SR campaigns going on in my city... Anyway I elave you with BlackJack (Yes, this is in honor of he who invented Brumby, Troll Philosopher)

This character is an efficient hacker and face, but can hold his own in combat. He needs IP's though, and that is one of teh development goals to keep in mind. His latent awakening is a hook, and it plays with the edge he gets form the implants he's got and the discomfort this causes to his budding magical aura. As an adept he would shine, if he awakens to a full magician getting all the skills he needs would be a karma sinkhole, but also interesting to play. In any case, its up to the GM, according to what he sees.

In the long run, BlackJack can grow to be VERY scary, being able to do proficiently a lot of shadowrunning jobs. Now he can do a lot of things, but not all of them well.

Background:

Born in the golden age of shadowrunning, back when it was far more simple, when the eurocar was the car you drove, an Ares predator the gun you shot and ruthenium polymers a mere myth in the streets, BlackJack was the son of two veterans. Back in the 2048, the Puyallup Barrens were a prime place to raise a kid. Local gangs were bribed to teach him how to ride a bike and the team's decker would play matrix-composed symphonies of icons to the little kid. Marcus "Gark" Alleson, a former company security expert, turned-troll samurai, taught the kid basics of unarmed combat and how to shoot a pistol. Oh yeah, those were the days before the wireless matrix made even more ubiquitous the government and corporate presence.

Being born in the Shadows means that you probably will follow in your parents footsteps, as BlackJack did. His way into the professional greased by his parents contacts and their reps. BlackJack was like a corporate golden kid, except he was thrust in a whole different kind of food chain.

His first implant, a then nova-hot enhanced articulation, now has a problem properly working, since he had it implanted for his 15th birthday and everyone knows that growth messes up with implants.
His math SPU was a gift from the decker who'd worked with his father and mother -Uncle Pixel-, who recognised the kid's aptitude with mathematics and computers and stimulated it to no end. Uncle Pixel however never managed to teach the kid proper cybercombat, it was as if teh little one's mind resisted. BlackJack is afraid of black ice and simialr programs, his brain aparently knowing just how delicate it is to it. This means that his cracking techniques have been focused into exploiting a friewall and intruding into nodes undetected, instead of gunning his way in. Some may not like the way he does this, but he gets results.

BlackJack was always an active kid, and enjoyed working out and recognised that bioware muscles would reduce the extent of his workouts and improve the results, hence he had them grafted. The synthacardium was an implant his father and mother saved for a long time in order to have it implanted, after "DocSullivan, Street Doc extradordinaire" diagnosed cardiac arrythmia in the kid. The implant was easily accepted and fully integrated, surgery a total success. BlackJack carries his chest scar proudly, since it was performed in the old way, with a scalpel and cracking ribs- as a means to save some 'yen... by then the pain in his articulations and muscles was something that happened often and his migranes grew worse as he got older. Nowadays he pops analgesics almost everyday and gulps a whiskey shot to ease them out. The stress of working the shadows, plus the recent death of his parents -to a vengeful beast spirit- have made him grow cynical, yet his charm and professionalism -he was born /in/ the shadows- still shine.

Recently, after a run gone bad, he lost the vintage Eurocar Westwind 2000 he'd inherited from auntie ChopShop (rest in peace, dwarf grease monkey and part-time rigger) which was a hard blow to the young man. He'd loved that car, it was the first place he'd gotten a dandelion-eater young girl down to her lacey underwear; on it he'd drive all night-long to ease his stressed brain. But even though ramming "Steel Lynx" drones with a sports car was an effective tactic, it tended to destroy both car and drone... Oh, well, "c'est la vie".

In the past few days BlackJack has had a nagging feeling that everything is going to change soon, that his life will not be the same ever again, the same gut feeling he had before his parents died...

But as they say in the streets: "Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose"

It's because the Movement rates in Shadowrun are stupid smile.gif

A Troll has a run speed of 35 meters / turn, 700 meters/minute, 42km/hour, 26 miles per hour.
A Human/Elf/Ork has a run speed of 25 meters / turn, 500 meters/minute, 30 km/hour, 18 miles per hour
A Dwarf has a run speed of 20 m/t, 400m/m,24km/h,15Mi/h

And this is without doing a run test, which adds 2m/hit (or 40m/minute,2.4k/hour, 1.8mi/h)

To put it in perspective:
The Current world record holder for a marathon is 2:03:59 for 42.195 km or roughly 13 miles per hour
The Current world record holder for a 100 meter sprint is 9.53 seconds. (or 3 turns) so roughtly 33 meters.

I always figured a 4-legger with Satyr Legs gained another set of legs like whas-his-face's horses from Norse mythology, or more recently the Dire horses from Avatar.

I'll get to my character concepts in a bit - rather distracted at the moment.

Have you factored in how long the metatypes can averagely keep up their running rate before Fatigue sets in? That may help you out there in the Marathon division, but all the lengths are definately wacky. I mean, a 33 foot snake with no striking distance (reach)? Pixies with no Reach penalty?

I chock it up to Americans writing something based off of the Metric system - for those of you oustide the USofA, we use a different system and really don't understand metric too well (unless you happen to study physics or the metric for whatever reason) and the game suffers because of it. I just use the suspension of disbelief required for things like acknowledging trolls, centaur, dragons, and SURGE on the distances also (and I mentally change everything to about 1-2 feet per meter instead of face value).

I always figured a 4-legger with Satyr Legs gained another set of legs like whas-his-face's horses from Norse mythology, or more recently the Dire horses from Avatar.

I'll get to my character concepts in a bit - rather distracted at the moment.

Odin/Wotan and the Horse was named Sleipnir but it had 8 legs instead of 4 or 6.

There was the Mars Climate Orbiter that burned in the atmosphere of Mars because control software expecting data in one set of units got it in the other, and put the orbiter in too low an orbit.
