Just out of curiosity, is it possible for the thread title to have the word class changed to role/archetype?
Under that assumption as well, I tend to play... physical... combat... specialists. All my long term characters (that is, anything I have played for more than two sessions) have been mundane. One was a sam who could rig, one was a sam without any cyber or bioware, one was just a regular sam, and another couple were low tech sams.
This makes me realize how few characters I've actually played in SR. For one, I am very loyal to a character, once I find one I like. So while most of my group had a stable of characters, I usually had one main character and back up )to be played on side runs when the whole group couldn't make it).
SR2Ork private detective. Four years, four hundred karma, probably 20m
total. (He retired with a lifetime luxury lifestyle). No cyber, no bio, no magic, but a lot of really good gear. He started out as a private detective and morphed over the years into James Bond, with tusks. I played him in mulitple campaigns and groups and most of the time other players assumed he was a phys ad with masking.
Ork combat rigger. He had a VCR 1, but he was pretty fast in the real world too. (My GM at the time allowed me to take the VCR and Synaptic Accelerators; they didn't stack but one worked while rigging, the other in the meatbod world.) I recall doing realtively little rigging with him. I had one main drone (Steel Lynx), a couple of back-ups (recon and frisbee bombs), did most of my killin' with a cyberspur and a Savlette Guardian. Earned about 100 karma over the year, ended with double digit stats in everything but CHA (8, thanks to Tailored Pheremones) and WILL (9, bought up naturally with Karma). But stats were a lot cheaper in SR2.
Human 90k sammie. Low tech, Wired I and a few other odds an ends. More of an upgraded Former Tribal Warrior, thoroughly unethical and immoral. Played as a back up character on days when the whole group couldn't make it. Had a tendency to end run the GM's plans, killed more than his fair share of Johnsons. I don't remember his karma total, but the character was a lot of fun to play.
SR3Human sammie. I played him for about two years of irregular play, earned a little over 100 karma. After about six months I realized that his cyber list was only one item different from a SR2 sammie (Dermal 1 and Plastic Bonelacing instead of Dermal 2). Never upgraded or implanted any 'ware, although I was meaning to get around to it at some point. Bought some new guns. Career highlight was probably the Boston games when the group was me, a rigger and four mages. I ended up more buffed than god (Enhance aim, Combat Pool bonuses out the wahzoo, barrier spells, concealment, invisibility, movement and so on).
SR4There are a couple of phys ads on this list, but they were all one and two shot games.
Human phys ad/face. Tons of social dice, high perception, okay with the fighting. More non-violent, the character was a yoga instructor. (This was supposed to be a smuggler's game and as a group we decided to all base our characters off Firefly, and I was the Companion.)
Troll phys ad detective. Decent social, high perception, good at hitting things hard. Maybe my favorite character name of all time:
Achilles Slade.
Human sammie. Low tech, Wired I, just because. Very similar to my SR2 Former Tribal Warrior, except this one was an Uneducated ex-con and much nicer guy. His fixer was his parole officer.
