So, I'm going to go with the Art lover and Thief/Infiltration Specialist (Hans van Vooreen "Caper"). I'm going to work out the BG a lot more tonight. I like the idea of playing a character that has had to flee his normal digs. I'm planning on taking Wanted (by the "customer" whose valuable artwork he made off with) and I'd like to take an enemy maybe at like 3? to represent that this custy has the clout to set someone out on Hans' trail and dog him to first punish him for absconding, and second if possible get back the original item/info on where it ended up...which he might still have (in the form of nearly priceless artwork which has become essentially un-fenceable because as soon as it shows up anywhere he's... dead). The other thing I'm curious about is using Hung out to Dry to represent his lack of connection in the sprawl and the fact that he is too hot to touch so his old friends have written him off? If that seems reasonable let me know!

So, I have a PC posted in the Cast of Shadows thread, HERE. An archaeologist in the shadows looking to clear his name. I'd like to submit him, in no small part because I have him online here and the other PCs I have available are packed away in a box, as I am moving in a few days.

Red-ROM, he has 10 free Contact points he got from the last game he played in (which died early... go figure). Any chance you could allow that for the players in general? That way I wouldn't have to change him, and contacts make play fun anyway.

The enemy is an NPC I had made up for his original game, the old Virtual Seattle RPGA campaign. I was writing for them then, they needed an arch-enemy for Claudia, everybody's fixer, and I wanted Professor's enemy to get into play. I didn't think ahead far enough, and soon found that I basically removed Professor from playing because I knew too much about the background.

Anyway the enemy was The Blind Man, who eventually murdered Claudia and ended Virtual Seattle. I modelled him after Richard Onslow Roper in John le Carré's "The Night Manager".

well, I like it. I'm struggling with the free contact points. I don't like to give them away in my games. I also told Saint Sithney no on the karma gen because people were already turning in characters under the RAW BP system.
On the other hand, I know your a kick ass Poster(I see you're still keeping Rav-O's thread alive) and I like your style.
SO. 10 Free contact BPs for everyone!!

smile.gif Yeah well part of my plan when you brought this up was someone that would fill the role of fun first with a built in background that could make the sudden death believable second (though I have no expectations for that my work makes it really easy for me to hit up the forums often, too often sometimes).
The hung out to dry I'm kind of rethinking that in retrospect, but honestly with what I'm thinking he's fled the UK before the hammer could come down on him, and any contact with his former life is only going to make it easier to track him in his mind, so we'll see I'll let you know as it fleshes out. I'm mostly done with the basics and I'm working through gear right now. BG development as a whole is going to be waiting until tomorrow cuz I didn't get a ton of sleep last night and it's nearing midnight where I'm at. A couple quick questions though while I'm here (it's been oh probably since shortly after 4e came out that I've made a char at all) I'm using the excel chargen sheet that has been floating around here for years and it seems to me like it isn't giving me free knowledge skill points as I add my bps up. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this entirely? (bbb says log+int*4 free pts and I assume from the way it's written that Kskills are on a 1:1 ratio with the free points??) The other question I have is about legality ratings; say for instance I want to rock a synaptic booster it rates R what do I need to work into generation to make that legit? Much appreciate the game and anybody's explaining this to me!

(we live in the same time-zone)
Those char-gens are kewl , but they have flaws. the free Knowlege points(not BP's but actual points 1:1) are
Log + Int x 3
The R means its restricted(F is forbiden). that means that if you don't have a liscense(or at least a good fake) the police can take you away. this has no effect on availability(the number in front of it) as far as your character having it or not. the availability number has to be 12 or less at char-gen(unless you take the restricted gear quality in runner's companion)

Sweet, thanks for clarifying that my equation am off but me am not crazy! I'll finish it all up sometime tomorrow, double check some maths and send it over to you for validation and what not!

Right now, I'm running priority like so: Resources A, Heritage (lucky human) B, Skills C, Attributes D, Talent (mundane) E
I've got an equal amount of Negative and Positive Qualities as well.

Few questions as to how you want me to go on gear and contacts.
As far as gear, how do you feel about gear ratings (not availability) above 6, because I'd like to get some high-high rating Universal Nantidotes, and they go up to rating 9 while still staying at availability 12. There's also a similar thing with my armored zeppelin.

As far as contacts, "A level" resources provides me with 8 contacts at a rating of 2/3 each, but there is an addendum in the system for varied contacts where I can take those points and move them around. I don't plan on getting any 6/6 contacts or any ridiculous group contacts, but I'd like some more room to play around with my 40 (!!!) points worth of contacts.

Oh, and just to clarify, I'm taking a restricted gear for the laser pistol and another for the ammo, yeah?

And, for everyone else's benefit, my character's going to be lucky as hell, exceptionally skilled in first aid and chemistry, a solid air support rigger, and remotely capable of most technical work. Oh, also he's an 83-year-old bigot with senile dementia and a laser pistol.

Yeah, it's just a weird part of Priority. Since I'm building him with a BP engine anyway, I could just drop the contacts, pick up a few stat points and be BP legal.

I just wanted to boycott BP because of the oil spill. frown.gif

Concept at a glance: Medic and Control-Rigger who can throw serious dice anywhere he has access to a pair of robot arms. Seriously, give him 'Trix access to your Rating 6 Medkit, and he'll throw 24 dice (minus situational modifiers) on a First Aid test and 18 dice for remote Surgery or Hardware stuff. Hell, he could give himself an epidural and do his own cyber-implant surgery through VR with the help of his mechanized pal, Danny "Nitrile" Glover. Hilarious.
Anyway, in addition to a low-profile makeshift ambulance he's also got a couple of fast moving medium drone planes Juryrigged to drop showers of activated grenades, and a wondrous floating sniper rifle in the sky which can produce its own cloud cover and route Matrix traffic (and, soon enough, launch masses of minidrones.)

I would imagine. Free bp for contacts frees up points that would have been spent there, to be spent elsewhere. Thats why I'm not a fan. But its no biggie.... a 2-pac maybe, but no biggie.

Martin_DeVries_Institute
Majhra's got a (potentially horribly offensive smile.gif ) point. There are no riggers in the main group, and so far only one in the reserve list--and Saint Sithney's is a loon. Like, my god. I really fear for our lives if we have to work with him. smile.gif (Which I mean in only the best way.) So another rigger could be good. Especially as his seems to focus on drones/aircraft.

EDIT: This is less a concept than a role in the group, admittedly, but that gets you partway there.
Dumori
If I'm alowed I might toy with a rigger AI. And a battle wagon. That or an Ork rigger and a battle wagon.

Replace wagon with van/truck.

Alright full sheet is up there with all the gear lifestyle etc, etc, etc... BG is in a nutshell (kind of a modern day Of Human Bondage, but instead of phillip going to med school he becomes...a thief, yeah!):

Hans moved to France as a young man to follow the whimsical idea that he would become an artist, of course much against his parents wishes and probably rightly so, because after about a year of training and some hard revelations he comes to the conclusion that a master, he ain't. With that depressing thought in his mind he kind of drops off the radar of family and friends and ends up working security at a museum in England, the whole time living in a dump the only thing keeping him going are his late night runs through the alleys, streets and parks and his solitude in the museum during his evenings at work. Meanwhile he's making the "wrong" kind of friends who eventually pull him into some of their home invasions so that he can payback his lingering debt and maybe start a new career...or at least buy a car...which he never does. After a couple small b&e's he learns that he is actually quite adept at this work, and begins working more or less on his own for awhile slipping into antique shops and more upper crust homes and sneaking out their valuables and making a pretty penny doing it. After a bit of time working through a fence of less than sterling morals...well let's face it, that's a given, he starts taking larger and larger risks. He keeps his job at the museum throughout but every vacation he comes back a little "different" First came the feet for better late night running, then the eyes so he could keep from using lights on his forays into other people property and so on until one day his fence (Burgess) suggested he meet up with a couple of other "friends" and perhaps they could liberate some of that fine art that is so unnecessarily adorning the walls at the museum. Long story short a couple forgeries and a hoaxed fire later and group had a small fortune in one masterpiece and few drawings enough to let them do as they pleased. Such did Caper truly come to be born. Hans came to open up his own small gallery with the money he had started to accrue from the jobs he was continually pulling, promoting young artists most evenings, stealing old artists work in the others. The constant battle between giving up the trophies he looted to mana knows who finally won out one night after a particularly beautiful collection of drawings from de hooch, rembrant and assorted others convinced him to head to his safehouse rather than to the drop point. He knew he'd ruined his reputation and a phone message from his anonymous Johnson finally broke through that now, he needed to get out, not of the game, the country, his life, everything he'd "worked" so hard for. Liquidating funds was easy, Burgess was always around after all and he had a fair nest egg saved up from his years of work and a somewhat successful gallery. Moving into a small, secure, and while not quite squalid but certainly far below his now somewhat affluent taste apartment in Seattle has proved discouraging. When that happens he turns up the music and pulls the drawings from their hiding places, lays them out and admires, then throws on his jumpsuit and runs through the streets of gritty city like he was being chased down by the devil himself...

well...I didn't mean to write quite this much if you want some more I'll work on it but I'm pretty satisfied with that for now anyway. Besides I've kind of developed some of the rest of his personality in contact descriptions too. Whew, nice to have him out on paper! Now he's just gotta survive with all these other nut bags running from...aliens...oh this is going to be interesting wink.gif .
Ezeckial
HAH, I just came up with a ridiculous Character Concept that I would never try.

He throws ten dice for ground craft on a default roll via the Command prog, which isn't bad. Certainly not optimal in a car chase, but you could do worse. Also he can help you scrump a car off the streets with a roboSpoof. Mainly I designed him to help with medicine, maintenance, distractions and worst-case scenario hard exits. Oh, and he throws 18 dice with a laser pistol before edge, so he can do a bit of ghost bustin if needs be. It'll be a couple days until I manage a full bio, but it should involve lots of work at Ares followed by a retirement interrupted when Rogue AI tracks him down and reprograms his mind through hotsim. So, he's somewhat dependable, but every time he jacks in with hotsim, he gets brought further and further into an orchestrated fantasy

I'd recommend for any new players, a high-reaction adept or sam who can drive a little, and beat a lot of ass. We've got a powerful need for real multi-pass muscle. Like someone who doesn't have to spend edge to get a 3rd pass.

hey man, no problem, you still have 12 hours or so to post a character. although I am expecting a dependant flaw now.
On a more serious note though, nothing is set in stone yet.The first thread is were I'm keeping my thoughts together. I had everyone in order of posting interest, then it was modified for posting of characters. Anyway, if you end up on the bench, I wouldn't worry about it. I expect at least a few turnovers. And If for some reason there's a huge upswing in the commitment to PBP gaming, I'm sure we can get a reserve GM to run a B-team

I've decided that he's going to be programmed with an extremely rudimentary personality based on Danny Glover's character from Lethal Weapon, and he's going to call everyone Riggs.

quick side note, this is still going to be a serious shadowrun campaign. I don't want everybody bailing thinking this is a joke or something. My goal with this was to make a game that would actually go somewhere. Have characters that actually get to spend some karma. I've been on this board for over a year, and I've only had one game that didn't die out of the gate, and that game consists of me, and 2 other people. The original GM disapeared after the first meet as well as half the players. I used to live in Olympia,Wa. and I had a kick ass SR group. Now I live in VA beach. and everyone seems to be DnD loyalists. plus I have a 2 year old now, so as far as getting to play SR, this is it. This is the closest I get, and it's been a little sad. So, I don't mind it getting a little "Tim burton's batman" up in here, But it won't be an "Airplane" movie.
thank you(and don't call me shirly smile.gif )
