This reminded me of a game I once played in that was a special forces team for Lone Star. We took down all the biggest and badest threats to Seattle and had a blast. I may be up for running the game, but there are so many more GMs that are better than me. Anyone interested? Anyone want to run something like this? If not, I may just have to.
Digital Heroin
I'd definitly be down with playing in it. Got a few concepts cooking in my head that'd work for a cop game.
Kagetenshi
I might be up for playing in it or running it. Let me know.

~J
Callidus
I'd be up for playing in it, sounds fun *8-> What type of characters are you looking at? I'm guessing not shadowrunner types... more cop-like rather than army styly....? *8-> always with the questions I guess *8->
kevyn668
Totaly!! I've been watching a lot of "the Shield" lately. I always think, "that's how I'd play a cop in SR..."

Let me know!!
Fresno Bob
I'm interested. Count me in!
Grey
Ok, well, how about we get our heads together and figure out how it will work.

Kagetenshi, how interested are you in running the game, cause I'm already running one and don't know if I want to take on another.
Bearclaw
Hey, I'd really like to play a cop. Are we talking cops, or are we talking special ops? I've got a German troll, former cop mage who could be working for the Star now.

PS, if you have the chance, pick up GURPS Cops. Great book and an excellent RPG aid in any system.
Grey
I was thinking something more like Special Ops, but I'd be up for anything.

I was thinking a team that is somewhat like a Shadowrunner team, but we'd be playing on the side of the law and have corporate backing.
kevyn668
I was thinking "Special Task Force" more than "Special Ops". Plainclothes, rule bending (and breaking), that sort of thing. Like "The Shield" or "True Crime: Streets of LA"

But I could do anything.
Grey
Thats what I ment.
kevyn668
Sold. Write it up.
Panzergeist
I'd love to play a pig, I mean officer of the law.
gobogen
I'd really like to play in this game! I'll finally get my full-equipped Heavy Security armor... well, hopefully. smile.gif
Digital Heroin
Plainclothes works perfect for a few of my concepts...
kevyn668
Ditto. Do we even have a GM before we all get into this?
Grey
If Kage doesn't want to do it, I may take the helm. I'd just much rather someone else do it cause I'm already running a game.
Kagetenshi
I guess I'm up for this. I'll come up with a list of restrictions/rules shortly, in the meantime: 128 build points, must have Pistols skill of at least 3, no reflex enhancements without a reflex trigger.

How are we playing? Play-by-post?

~J
kevyn668
I vote for PbP!!
Grey
What do we need for the team? Off the top of my head I can think of:

-Detective (could me a mage/shaman with detection spells)
-Face (to get info off the streets about whatever job we have going)
-Decker
-Rigger?
-Muscle (more than one?)

Granted, some of these could crossover. Dective/Face, Combat Decker, etc.
Kagetenshi
At least one rigger would be good. Are you all going to be working for Lone Star or some other law enforcement organization, or should I choose? I'm going to be finding some way to make it easier for the Rigger to get his or her hands on the tools that a proper law-enforcement rigger would need.

~J
Fresno Bob
I was thinking I'd make a martial arts cop for this...
Grey
I'm up for leaving it to you to decide. It could be CIA, Lone Star, or whatever.
Kagetenshi
By the by, are people more interested in a street-level cop-game, or a high-powered Section 9-style game? I can do either, I'd just want to tweak chargen rules for the latter.

~J
gobogen
I'd like to be one of the muscle guys. A big Troll in big sec armor and good with guns. A dream come true ...
gobogen
I would go for high-powered.. just for the heck of it, as my previous post implied.
Grey
I'm liking the idea of a more higher-powered style game. I've been doing a lot of street level games lately.
kevyn668
128 BPs is High powered. Remember, you're a cop. Most of the heavy gear you'll have to requisition. We can't have REAL high end chrome. No one will have to buy THAT much. I was thinking a few odds and ends that each officer had "accquired off the record" over the years.

Well, maybe thats just me. I'll wait and see what Kage says...
Kagetenshi
High-powered, then. Scrap the edge/flaw maximums; they'll have to pass my review, and Combat Monster is a very bad choice unless you want to find yourself jobless and on the wrong side of the law very quickly. Increase BP total to 135; you're allowed to bring skills two points total over six (so either one skill can be 8 or two can be 7) or one attribute one point above RML; this is in addition to the various effects you can get from edges such as Exceptional Attribute. You cannot do both.

Trying to decide how to deal with cash. The easiest way would be to just double what you choose, but that overpowers the million and underpowers the low resource choices. I'll post when I decide.

~J
Bearclaw
Hi powered is cool, but fighting crime, rather than doing the same stuff runners do in different clothes. IE, spec ops is pretty much the same game. I'll still be in, it just won't be as cool biggrin.gif

PS, I've got a troll Shaman Detective I'd like to play.

If it's a high-powered game, you'll have that kind of chrome; that's the difference between high and low, IMO. On the other hand, keep in mind that you are cops; while some of you might be getting down to fractional Essences, it's more likely that most of you would have a light smattering of very high-end 'ware.

And remember the kinds of runners you'll be going up against.

Bearclaw, I've got ideas that'll differentiate it, or at least ought to. At the very least, your opposition will be acting very differently.

gobogen
What is gonna be the Avail limit?

Also, doubling it disadvantages low ressourses.. but who is going to take very low ressources? We've got so many extra points to start with.. Just my two cents.
Large Mike

My vote is low-end, because I'd dig a 'Training Day' kinda vibe off my cops, without the crooked.

I'd like to throw a character in for consideration, if that's alright. I'll wait on what's said about the money before I make one, though.
Kagetenshi
Ok. I've got my ideas down as to exactly how this is going to go, I think.

Cash totals are normal, you have full access to all bioware including cultured and 'ware up to Beta grade. However, you get four discounts to apply to items as you see fit: two items you can buy at 75% of list price, and two at 90%. You can also donate cash to each other, which will be valuable for the rigger and decker.

Also, for the most part stay away from military grade gear and stay well away from anything that causes uncontrolled collateral damage. No WP grenades, Fuel-Air Explosives, LMGs, etc. Also keep in mind that live subjects make better PR, and if you don't want this to turn into an ordinary Shadowrunner game by getting your asses fired good PR is something you want. You're an experimental High Threat Response and Special Investigations team formed by Lone Star Security Services, and you're all fresh out of other security services or law enforcement organizations. Any extensive 'ware you have is freshly-implanted at the start of the game; any big-ticket gear is probably new as well. You also all get a free Contact: Paul Levin, the person what oversees your division and gives you orders. You aren't the only ones in this place, though you are one entire designated team; there are two other teams currently.

More info as requested or thought up. Comments are also welcome.

Bearclaw
I've got Clout 6 and Stunball 6. Bear also likes live suspects. Oh yea, I didn't take pistol at all, but I've got clubs. As a mage, I figure I've got my long range fighting covered. Will that be OK, or should I juggle some points?
Large Mike

Hight threat response you say? I see a negotiator face... dermal plating... maybe a cybergun... lots of social skills. I like it.
Grey
Lone Star has a rule that even secritaries have to learn how to use a Pistol.
Grey
I may throw in as a Combat Decker or Rigger. We'll see what everyone else wants and I'll decide from there.
Bearclaw

Crap.
So a rating 6 manabolt won't substitute?
Grey
Nope. You must have at least 3 Pistols to work for them, be it a street cop or the guy that cleaned the bathroom.

I've desided to take the Combat Decker slot. I'm thinkin' Orc with a rough side, but has his inner-geek on and a good range of contacts.

Anyone that can throw extra money at me, please let me know! I'll need as much as I can get for the deck.
Grey
Damn. Now I'm wanting to go the route of Decker/Rigger.

Kage: Do I have to buy my vehicles? If not, I may just go with the Decker/Rigger/Techie guy.
gobogen
I'm going with the Troll sharp shooter with lots of cyber. I see him coming from SWAT if that's okay with you.
Kagetenshi
You have to buy your vehicle, yes. Starting Resources are representing all of the stuff you've been assigned, etc., not stuff out of your own pocket for the most part.

Bearclaw: nope, manabolt won't substitute.

Gobogen and others: your characters can have any background you want as long as it's in Law Enforcement. If you want something non-LE, you'd better have a very very good reason for it; this team wants people who've been around the block and know how an investigation works.

~J
Grey
Damnit. Now I have to pick Decker or Rigger.

Ya know, I see the team needing a Rigger more than they need a Decker. I'll go that direction.
Callidus
I'll take the rigger if I can.... had a nice idea for a mage but two in a small squad sounds unlikely so rigger time *8-> but if two riggers is too much I got a nice idea for a muscley type beatcop....

I'll get something over to you ASAP Kage unfort due to a weekend away I'm prolly not gonna get a fix char into you til monday evening GMT if that's a prob just post and I'll back out, I'll be checking DSF tomorrow while at work *8->
JongWK
I think Kagetenshi has already decided what kind of game he wants to run, but if you want high-powered cops, why not setting the game in Tenochtitlán. Street cops with security armor and assault rifles make it sound like a pretty dangerous place.

Just my 2 cents for your game. smile.gif
Kagetenshi
I won't be able to really start things until next Wednesday anyway, so you've got some time to get a character in.

And JongWK, I'm trying to avoid that. High-powered, yes, but I want cops, not military with a different name.

~J
Grey
Callidus: How about one of us goes Air and the other does Ground? Or one is Vehicle and the other is Drone?
JongWK
Kagetenshi, the Aztlaner military you do NOT want to meet, trust me. I was talking about standard Aztlaner streetcops. Their government usually gives them better toys and less restrictions, so if you want a dirty, The Shield-like campaign, it could be the right place.

Anyway, it's your game. wink.gif
Bearclaw
OK, I dropped my clubs and took Pistol/Thunderbolt 2/4. That should work, shouldn't it?
