Well, under SR3, Titanium or Aluminium Bone-Lacing actually gave your Bones a Barrier Rating.

I haven't played SR3. How was that useful? Called shots against bones?

Yeah… I guess if someone specifically tried to break them? In SR4, it's more like 'effectively unbreakable', but it never really comes up. There are advanced wound rules in Arsenal that include broken bones (I *think*), but it's not really part of the game.
The drain on Reinforce is less than on Armor, so you have to assume it's not meant to be capable of replacing it; the incompatible Structure stat backs that up.

Increase Body, then. That lets you wear more armour too.

Because in SR3, there were "fuck you cybered guy" rules that made it very likely for any kind of cyber to get damaged/broken in combat
