Hehe. See, if I thought my GM hated the idea and was trying to steer me away, I'd take the hint! A powerful ally spirit (with or without questionable Power choices like Inhabitation) is a big deal; it's perfectly understandable if he doesn't want it. It's basically giving one player two characters… except one of them's a small god.
Udoshi
Oh come on. Inhabitation for ally spirits isn't questionable in the slightest. In fact, its one of the more clear things in this dumb ass system we all love.
The Jake
I feel I'm being funnelled in a particular direction I don't want to go. Game balance I don't think is the only factor at work here.

His brother is playing a Voodoo houngan combat specialist. He's seen what I've done with Invoking and picked that up already looking to break the game further with Spirit Pacts. I've already said he needs to be less concerned about me and more concerned about him as his brother shows no such restraint.

I'm not saying your idea is bad or you're bad, or anything. smile.gif It sounds like you and your GM have social issues unrelated to the RAW, heh. I'm just saying that half of playing is just avoiding trouble.

Udoshi, it is if you're turning yourself into a free spirit via suicide. biggrin.gif But I didn't mean 'RAW questionable', I meant 'play questionable'. It's even weirder and rarer than Possession.

Where is toturi when you need him?

You get what Batman said to Jim Gordon near the end of Batman Begins.

"I'll look into it."

I have re-read it and it says that is for ally creation, not enhancing. Nowhere does it state it can't be done.

Since the Enhancing an Ally section is a sub-section of the Ally Spirits section, all of the rules and stipulations are subject to the rules within the same section. Think of it less as "Enhancing an ally" and more like "Ally Spirits, section 1 subsection 3."

I'm inclined to agree, but I'm wearing my asshole player hat right now. I'll take the hits where I can and wait to hear back from Toturi. smile.gif

I find it interesting you value his word so much.

And technically it would be Spirits of the Sixth World, Section 2, Article 3.
Yerameyahu
If I was going to ask anyone for help exploiting the RAW, it'd be you, Neraph. wink.gif Hehe. Maybe toturi's job is bending the RAW?

Well I value Neraph's equally truth be told, but he's already posting (and I'm not getting the answer I want).

We have a joke in Australia re: our tax department (IRS equivalent) - if you're not getting the answer you want, hang up and call back and keep calling back until you do.

You can see what I'm doing here... smile.gif

@Neraph: I have been riding the Canon/RAW horse in this forum (and its previous incarnation) for a long time. I think that there are few (if any) threads in which I have disagreed with you on the RAW. I have simply been doing this RAW schtick here longer.
@TheJake:
RAW Point 1: There is no explicit limitation to what power or skill you can give an ally spirit in the Enhancing An Ally section (SM p105).
RAW Point 2: There is however references to previous sections for the karma costs of such enhancements.
RAW Point 3: Previous section states
QUOTE
The initiate may give the ally extra powers available to spirits his tradition can conjure at a cost of 5 Karma.

Conclusion: Given the above points, while RAW does not explicit state what powers an ally can be given through Enhancement, it strongly implies what the ally spirit can be given.

You can't tell because of the internet, but right now I am glowing with pride.
Yerameyahu
Mwa ha, it's all part of my plan to make you happy, and therefore less dangerous. biggrin.gif
The Jake
Damn. Was afraid you'd say that. Ho hum. Oh well...

- J.
Neraph
You misunderstand me. When I'm happy I'm more energetic about finding things out. I did my Ally Spirits and Agents/AI threads while happy.
Yerameyahu
Crap. I'd better change my plan then. frown.gif Are you sure you weren't happy *because* of it?

A little of column A, a little of column B.

I coulda sworn that there was an explicit prohibition on having multiple ally spirits at one time,
In SR3 each Ally costs one point of the summoner's Magic. You can have as many Allies as you are prepared to sacrifice Magic for but only one Familiar (which doesn't take its Magic point away from you unless it goes free). Maybe that's what you were thinking of?
The Jopp
I had a magician in a short lived game who had two ally spirits at rating 4. They were not that special. But they were two hot smoking human females that I had given viper sliverguns and Clothing+Armored Trenchcoat. Essentially two extra guns at my beck and call – not to mention that I had given them some extra forms…

Note: This mas in SR3 so I dropped magic from 6 to 4.

1: Gigers Alien (pop inside the car of a pursued vehicle and scare the bejeezus out of the driver)
2: The Abominable Snowman (as above but KISS the driver) grinbig.gif
3: A pigeon (no one will suspect a pigeon…)
4: Invisible Human form (can wear clothing, pick up stuff and do things)
5: Hot smoking female runner
6: Twin of the magician (Yea, I was in 3 places at once shooting at you)
7: A Lonestar cop (No one will suspect a Lonestar patrolling)
Etc.

I spend around 20 karma for both spirits for their multiple forms
