Looks good. The only thing I notice at first glance is that your Edge should be 5. Humans having starting Edge of 2.

OK, here is a preliminary setup. Still pounding my head a bit on the last of the gear. I apologize for being a touch slow, RL has just kicked hard this past week but should not be an ongoing issue.

Hah, I dunno how I missed the Edge. I guess it's one of those things that's so normal and ingrained to me that I forgot to even think about it, giving my attention to other, more complicated areas of the characters, and ended up forgetting about Edge and not even realizing it. Fixed now.

I like the look of our rigger. Not sure if he and Wootz will quite get along mano-a-mano, being two different kinds of wanderers (especially since Wootz is somewhat disorganized), but it should make for some fun interaction. Plus, Struts can fix up my bike, or even mount a gun on it and rig it. MOAR DAKKA™! nyahnyah.gif

Ok, His Background Story got out of hand a little bit, I started to use the 20 Question to get my focus back. Please forgive the Language mistakes or misspellings. I made "Margins" German so he could "glitch" on english grammar in character whenever I do.

Looks pretty good though you made the same mistake with Edge. Humans start with 2 and your priority choice gives you +3. So you have 5 Edge. smile.gif

We're shaping up to be a merry band of havoc-wreakers: an itinerant blade-swinging fortune cookie, a tough truckin' grease monkey smuggler, and a disowned corp-grown "rechnerwunderkind".

Curious that we're all Human so far, though...

Seems like a lot of people are loving how many special attribute points the humans get. by far human seem to be the most common metatype with this edition.
Umidori
I'd be happy to rebuild Wootz as an Ork, if you'd prefer a bit more variety among us. It'd certainly make his melee attacks hit harder. I kinda went with more of a "finesse over power" build in part because I like the idea of an otherwise ordinary looking guy pulling out a katana and going all action-trideo-flick on the stronger, uglier, stupider opposition.

In the meantime, however, I realized that my four ranks of Gymnastics wasn't as beneficial to me as I had thought (since Full Defense is based on Willpower nowadays, and against melee I can always Parry instead of Dodge) so I figured I'd reassign those four points elsewhere. I used one on specializing my Blades skill, and the other three on boosting my Unarmed from 2 to 5, giving me more non-lethal potential.

Play what meta you want. An all human team will certainly work well for when Alamos 20000 hires you guys.

The character sheet changes are fine
Umidori
Hah. I'm not entirely sure what Wootz would do if A20K wanted to hire him. A lot of his most important personal influences were Orks from the Underground, with a smattering of the other metas thrown in.

With his Taoist influences, he might see it as an opportunity to turn their negativity back on themselves - take the job, then purposefully have it go to pieces in such a way that Alamos comes off the worse for wear, but making it look accidental or beyond human control. Say they wanted us to bomb an Ork orphanage, Wootz might arrange for the place to end up with specialized property insurance that covers things like hate crimes, then make sure the place is completely empty when they bomb it, and afterwards leave evidence or make an "anonymous tip" to a major news outlet implicating Alamos.

The orphanage gets destroyed, sure, but no one dies, they get a large and mysterious insurance payment to rebuild or relocate somewhere nicer, and Alamos takes the heat. Meanwhile, we report back in like nothing went wrong. "Hey, you wanted that scumhole leveled, we leveled it. Pity all the little pigs were away on a field trip when the bombs blew, but what can you do? Now, about our fee..."

It is quite a nice crew. I also noticed the lack of metahumans, but had I gone for Chimps or Tribal we would have had more crossover roles. Which might not be bad for the food fight.
Another question is: Will our characters know each other or will we meet IC for the first time?

P.S.: Margin would go along with Wootz on the Alamos 20K thing even if for entirely different reasons: Racism like Religion are a waste of time for a rational person. And wasting margins time comes at a price!

Oddly enough, I think Wootz would agree with that assessment, at least in general. He's more interested in the philosophy side of things than the religious stuff.

For example, while he rather likes the Buddha as a concept, he doesn't at all believe that the historical Buddha faced down Mara's army of demons under the Bodhi Tree, or other miraculous stories. In fact, he views the religious aspects of his various fields of study to be impediments to proper understanding of the universe.

Okay, finally at the comp full time smile.gif

Gonna give a once over for chargen, and get started on it.

Thoughts:

An elf whose family was once a pretty important one in Ti Tairngare (sp?), but the change of leadership didn't mean any good things for them. Down on their luck, she's a powerful shaman who hanged with the Ancients before taking off for full-time solo running. Somewhat prejudiced probably, but she can be professional on a run.

If I make any fluff mistakes down the road, please correct me, still learning it all.

No worries. I'm not too much of a stickler on every detail when it comes to Fluff. Sounds like a good character. With the connection to the Ancients, you might still have a connection to Prince Parrish of Tor Tairngire who is a member of the Council of Princes and who also has strong ties to the Ancients.

I can't wait for in character discussions.
Chowing down a soy-dog in a firefight while contemplating the symbolism behind mara's army of demons in the Boddhisatva story, the characters faces illuminated by flickering pink neon signs to the music of ... hmm ... what should that sound like. A chinese restaurant romance song, elevator music ping-dada-ding, troll trash metal or a mix of the above factoring in a saxophone a 220 beats per minute baseline, no I am still missing something...

I specifically made sure Wootz had Earbuds, half because I like having Audio Enhancements, and half because I want to have him getting distracted by sorting his assorted Nihonto Hip Hop playlists, among others.

Which way do you guys prefer to have it? I'm good with either way as far as if you all know each other.

For posting frequency, I will likely be posting multiple times a day during the work week and I'd like to have at least a few posts per week from each of you. Minimum of 1 post per week unless you've specifically mentioned you have something going on that prevents you from posting.

I am really on the fence about this. I love to have some IC meet the team roleplaying opportunities but I now it can bog down play. Hmm, I am going with aww.. I dunno. wobble.gif

Does anybody else have a preference one way or the other?
Umidori
Wootz isn't picky. He wanders throughout Seattle meeting people, looking for work, and doing minor good deeds.

Either option works for his personality, but Wootz doesn't really hang out with his fellow Shadowrunners. If we've already met, it was probably through our fixer setting us up for a small job. If we have yet to met, it will probably be when a fight breaks out and Wootz steps in to help break it up or defend whichever side seems like the underdog. Conversely, if he's the first one to take any sort of action, he might drag the rest of the team into a fight by confronting a hostile figure and escalating the situation into a full blown combat.

Both sound fun to me. nyahnyah.gif

So I guess I'm voting for "meeting for the first time".

With the Priority you chose you get "2 Rating 5 Magical Skills", not Skill Groups. Sorcery and Conjuring are Skill GROUPS with 3 skills in each of them.

Having us know each other speeds up the start a bit, not knowing each other gives us the option of RPing the early meetup days. Both have advantages, but I am going to vote a slight preference for already knowing the others even if we haven't worked together before. That said, it is a slight preference and I won't be upset if we take teh longer route.
Umidori
I'm liking this dynamic.

So in terms of scouting and preparation, we've got Swift to sneak in and get us all the whizbang intel, open doors, point out enemy patrols, that sort of thing. Margins is pretty dang sneaky too, so he can go with her and scope out the Matrix defenses, maybe commandeer some cameras for us and generally hack the proverbial Gibson. Struts can have drones on overwatch, and can be either be part of the non-sneaky breaching team, or handling the details of our getaway. Gentry can scout out with spirits, investigate the Astral situation, and potentially buff up whomever needs a handy spell or two. Wootz will naturally be leading the charge, but thankfully he's sneaky enough that he can do some front-line scouting as needed to make sure the path is clear for the others following behind him.

When the drek hits the fan, Wootz' job is to draw fire and sow chaos in the enemy lines, with a high priority on magical and ranged threats, specifically working to drop their dicepools and initiative via wounds and situational combat modifiers, as well as getting them to waste shots tring to hit him. Swift and Margins can both snipe from the shadows with small arms, and we've got Gentry and Struts to bring down additional pain with spell slinging and drone gunnery, and maybe some heavy weapons fire from time to time. And if all else fails, we throw in whatever expendable grenades, drones, and spirits we have and book it to the exit.

One thing, though. Unless Gentry plans on making regular use of Alchemical preparations, I'd recommend switching out those skill points for something like Perception. (Every runner's best friend!)

~Umi
horvagab
While I do plan on using alchemiy a lot, I also feel like my skills are barely covering the minimal stuff, and not even that. Might switch over some stuff, get a higher priority for skills, lower for attributes. I'd put nuyen at E, but I won1t be able to get any starting foci probably with that money. Then agian, I can buy that later.

And I still haven't used karma.

Sorry for the delay folks.

@Aria: I'd give locksmith a hard look in favor of hardware. In 5th edition there are less "orphan" skills and for the infiltrator build it may be usefull to be able to sping a lock (keypads, maglocks etc. are coverd by locksmith now!) and it works with agility (this is why I dismissed it in the first place for Margins).

I am feeling a bit reluctant about moving the to the other thread more out of a "will my post be read in the right context" as out of spite. Right now it feels like anybody is waiting for someone to make the first move, wait 3 days for an answer to her or his post and then remind the rest of us that we didn't come clean on the "moving over" topic.

I am ok with moving but I vote for it to be done soon. I love to reread Umi's posts about his outlook on the team, the link to the yoshida brothers, etc. If we take more time here it will be even harder to move on.

Maybe it gets easier when we are throgh with chargen and have our [OOC] and [IC] channels.

Okay stupid question, but I can't find how much money karma can be converted into. Currently Gentry is a perfect example of an impoverished patrician: she's going for Street lifestyle yo! I have all the karma left, but I can't find how does it translate to money...

And also need to pick my spells.
Umidori
It's 2000 nuyen for each 1 Karma you spend. wink.gif

As for spells, I'm kinda hoping you make some creative picks! I always love when people make use of less obviously powerful spells instead of the common ones. biggrin.gif

~Umi
horvagab
Thanks!

For the first time, I mostly picked fairly standard stuff: stun bolt, mana bolt, lightning bolt, improved invisbility, mana and physical barrier, heal, increased reflexes...

I did pick up swarm. Mostly because that seems like a fun and useful spell. Other ideas were Poltergeist, and potentially shatter as an alchemical preparation.

Long term it is always the better choice to go for the higher stats in chargen. To raise two Attributes from 5 to 6 takes 60 Karma and to improve one from 4 to 6 only 55. Not that this will be a problem for the next 110 to 130 postings, wink.gif
