Canon did kill him. Until Lucas saw the bounty on the bounty hunters head fromall the die hard Bobba fans. After that Bobba was ressurected to make Lucas richer. I am not sure if Bobba had a lot of fans befoe the books, I am sure he had enough to make books a possible cash machine but, I figure his popularity in th eSW univrse has drmamtically increased with the novels. Supposedly Lucas had a lot of back story for all his characters. He just didn't call Bobba the most feared BH in the Galaxy to make him sound scarry (actually he did but gave him a good back story as to why).

And according to Lucas, Boba Fett officially died in the sarlacc pit. Boba Fett is dead. None of the books are canon according to Lucas. All Boba Fett did was follow Han, he didn't even capture him. He needed Vader there with a pile of Storm troopers. I may be wrong but I don't think Fett won a single fight in the movies. |
Got a cite on this? Reason being Lucas was calling the shots to some degree in the NJO novels (in fact, he personally said they had to kill someone off in the first book, vetoed the choice of Luke, and approved the choice of Chewbacca to be the victim). Not to mention that

Fett appears and plays a major role in the last book in the NJO series.
But bringing this back once again to On Topic, what could be done for a Bounty Hunter campaign, in the sense of Bail Bondsmen and Bond Enforcement agents and so forth is taking a page or too out of the Stephanie Plum Novels. If one thinks about it, the character of Ranger could be concidered to be a modern day Shadowrunner. The PCs could be the ones sent after the really, really big bounties that the Bail Bondsman the PCs are looking for wants back yesterday. And there are the little side bounties that can make little sub-plots for the PCs 'cause they need cash (getting the guy who was charged for Indecent Exposure whose in his apartment and smeared himself with Vasiline to make it more difficult for the PCS to grab him.)
If I had a group, I would try to make a campaign out of this, but... well, I don't have a group ATM.

In the Underworld sourcebook, Lone Star is supposedly pursuing cases against Chimera (a group of assassins). Their lack of enthusiasm at tracking down the organization made one poster comment (and I paraphrase):
"And why should they? Lone Star is a corp, too. You don't eliminate an asset like Chimera; you use it."
I always liked that line.
